Methadone use during pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone use during pregnancy

methadose

Avatar n tn The reason that pregnant women continue to use heroin and other opiates is because there is too much misinformation out there. Methadone use during pregnancy may result in pre-term labor, low birth weight and the baby may need to be weaned but as this is a synthetic drug and one in which individuals can reach stability on, it is MUCH safer to use than other opiates.
Avatar f tn It says tramadol is category C though. If you don't know what that means just type in goggle pregnancy category C.
Avatar f tn My nephew is a methadone baby....I don't think methadone would be best choice.... I feel for u in this time.... you can do this ..,your not alone and when you go through withdrawals talk to us... scream, whatever..its not going to be easy... but I believe you want this!
Avatar n tn Sorry didn't mention my daughter didn't die of any kind of addiction as I didn't use anything during pregnancy,, she died of an infection.....
Avatar f tn ll read this, but I feel inclined to shout it to the heavens-- YOU DID NOT HARM YOUR CHILD. As a medical professional, I could spout out lost of statistics regarding opioid use during pregnancy (both prescribed and abused) along with CP dx's. But I'll keep with the meat of what I'm saying.... You are a good mother for being concerned, obviously your adore your little one, CP and all. If you truly dumped your meds 12 days in, you are faultless here.
Avatar n tn hi i need help, my sister is 8 months pregnant, is on methadone and was just perscribed promethazine, cyclobenzaprine and zolpidem are these safe drugs to mix with methadone and pregnancy? she did just recently switch doctors for unexplained reasons..
Avatar n tn I feel very strongly that methadone is not the best choice for drug treatment during pregnancy. I am sure you want what is best for your baby and so do I. Methadone is an opiate, very long acting one and very addictive. You are still opiate dependent and if you continue to be on methadone through your pregnancy, your child will also be born opiate dependent. Your baby will be in withdrawals after birth and will have be spend time in the Neonatal ICU to go through those withdrawal.

Avatar n tn Again, I doubt that you will be advised to stop taking methadone during the entire pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. See your doc as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn Hey there & Welcome. Thanks for reaching out! As a long-term ex-heroin/ex-Methadone/ex-Subs user I wanted to lend you my support & chime in with a few points. I know you want the very best for your baby - (Congrats on your pregnancy!) - & I think it's great that you posted. (You're in the right place, btw.) I agree with DominoSarah that you MUST talk to your OB about this ASAP. First, most importantly -- you say: 'I don't want to use methadone or subs.

1412606 tn?1282882129 What pain meds can I use for chronic pain during pregnancy. Of course I will talk to a Doctor before I get pregnant, so please don't say go to your doctor. I would like to know specific medications that have been prescribed to patients who are pregnant with nerve pain?
Avatar f tn HI, Opiates and methadone are not safe during pregnancy. Hence they are best avoided. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and the strain caused by the growing uterus may be responsible for the pain. Consult your Doctor. Hope this helps.
351846 tn?1273615544 From most peoples experience the lower the dose you can get down to before quitting does seem to lessen the symptoms to some degree, just like any other tapering of opiates before you quit. I was on and off methadone/oxycontin along with other opiates for many years, got clean a handful of times but never stayed clean longer than about 6months.
Avatar n tn for some reason I am thinking doctors like to use suboxne during pregnancy before methadone but the babies are almost always kept in nicu for a while to be tapered off the methadone......and you will have risks with your pregnancy such as pre-term birth and low birth weight and resp. problems at birth and etc. anyone who is taking medications during pregnancy that are narcotics have these concerns.
Avatar m tn i haven't had a vicodin in 15 day but started taking the tramadol because it was "safe". So now I'm trying to take just one but my body aches sooo bad and I am crying all the time too. I have a bottle of vicodins that I gave my husband so I wouldn't be tempted to take it but now I'm wondering if I should use it to ease of the tramadol and then wean off that or just use the thomas recipe and quit the trams. I can't sleep! I have 4 kids I have to take care of.
Avatar n tn I think the tenuous FDA approval of subutex/suboxone and methadone (for pregnancy) explains the confusion about it's legitimate use for pregnant women. As far as I am aware, both suboxone/subutex carry a Class C classification for use during pregnancy. A Class C rating is described by the FDA as follows....
Avatar f tn After putting alot of thought into it, I decided to stick with my taper plan & just deal with what comes my way, I was really leaning towards going onto sub yesterday but after a nomal nights sleep I came to the conclusion that it,s just not gonna happen, I do believe that sub is a much safer & better choice versus methadone, but I am so, so, close to wrapping this thing up, I mean geez, Im at 1mg & so close to having my life back that I dont want to ever put my body thru even the sl
Avatar f tn I would rather stay on oxycodone during the pregnancy than switch to methadone. much harder to quit, much longer withdrawals, and this will affect baby as well....I'm on pregnancy #4 (child #3, my first was a miscarriage) and with all three pregnancies I've had to take pain meds, including oxycodone at one time during my first two pregnancies for kidney stones/other problems....and both of my babies are fine and healthy.
