Avatar f tn She was able to get and appointment tomorrow at a methadone clinic. She wants to to take methadone for the two weeks before her addictionologist appointment. She doesnt want the clinic to know. I told her to be honest at the clinic so she doesn't have some type of reacton. Do you know if there would be an issue? I can't talk to the clinic because of the privacy laws.
Avatar f tn but when you have tapered off and relapsed enough times that you are sick of that mess, seek help from a treatment professional-- in person-- and do EVERYTHING you can to follow directions. Opiate dependence is a fatal illness, and is hard to kick even when you do everything RIGHT. There are also plenty of posts in the archives that discuss the issue of opiate withdrawal.
Avatar f tn re interested in a methadone maintenance program for recovery from addiction to heroin or other opiates, there are people here who could probably advise you about that.
Avatar m tn I was on methadone for over a year, before that my DOC was vicodin. If I had it to do over again I would not have chosen the methadone route. Not saying it can't help some people.Just wish I would have been more informed about what I was getting myself into.Whats your DOC[drug of choice]? How long have you been using and how much?
1233941 tn?1267735211 Why do people keep saying Sub shouldn't be used for hydrocodone? It's an opiate just like any other. Is 100mg of Oxy OK for Sub? And, 200mg of Hydrocodone not? Please, quit qualifying Sub by what opiate they used. It's scaring people off who may be good candidates for Sub treatment. Past addiction history as well as the person's health and opiate DOSAGE (NOT Opiate of choice) should determine whether Suboxone should be a choice.
Avatar m tn The most commonly recommended treatment for pregnant women who are addiction to heroin or other opiates is methadone maintenance treatment. All pregnant opiate-addicted women are advised to take methadone as a part of a medically supervised methadone maintenance treatment program. Methadone is currently the only medication approved for the addiction treatment of pregnant women who are addicted to heroin or other opiates. The fetus feels withdrawal symptoms during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn First of all, I commend you for wanting to get off the opiate rollercoaster. You can do this there are so many people here that can help you. If you feel like you want to harm yourself then please seek urgent care. Opiates can cause major depression and we are not in our right minds when we are using. I know it's tough but hang in there. This is not a hopeless situation and you WILL survive it. Methadone can be a dangerous medication if not used under the directions of a doctor.
Avatar n tn Without exception UROD must always be followed immediatley by the same ************** program which any opiate addict must undergo. UROD is a beneficial treatment specifically for individuals who want to get off methadone. It DOES NOT cure addiction nor does it prevent all physical withdrawal symptoms, and it does nothing for psychological withdrawal or furutre drug craving. Seeing a 'counselor' does not either.
Avatar f tn I cannot advise you since I am also looking for answers. I also have an addiction to oxycodone. As of yesterday, I started tapering. I'm writing down time/dose etc. I have been advised to do this by many here because of my age, length of use, and other health issues. (48yo). It is certainly not sure proof but so far so good. Have you heard of Thomas Recipe..which is supposed to help w/ the withdrawal. Scroll all the way down to right hand side: see Health pages. I plan on doing that as well.
Avatar m tn also since the acute withdrawal symptoms last for a week would i be able to take methadone or suboxone for a week to get over the withdrawals, then stop the methadone/suboxone?? i was reallly curious about this as i heard that it helps with withdrawal.
Avatar n tn Why was she put on methadone? Is there a plan to get her off that really soon. If not, are you aware that methadone is a bear to get off of? Far harder than most opiates. What opiates was she on? How much was she taking per day and per dose?
Avatar m tn of Suboxone, you can read my comments on the prior post about the disease model for addiction-- the understanding of addiction that is virtually universal among addictionologists, but that remains a challenge for others. You will read comments by laypersons like 'it is OK if not used long-term'; we now have clear evidence for what most of us in the business thought was obvious; Suboxone is best thought of as a long-term remission agent.
Avatar f tn Although taking methadone while pregnant may seem a bit strange, methadone is the gold-standard treatment for pregnant women – the treatment that is most likely to promote good health in mother and child. The Risks of Opiate Abuse during Pregnancy Opiate abuse may have affected your health and if you abuse opiates during your pregnancy, you are putting the health of the unborn child at risk as well.
Avatar f tn Hello. Detoxing right now can be harmful to the baby who will feel everything the mother is feeling....especially cold turkey. Make an appointment with a doctor to discuss the different possibilities. One possibility is methadone as it is relatively is safe for the baby. Then, after you have the baby you can address your addiction and get off the methadone.
Avatar m tn no way no how. sorry. not for addiction. for pain yes. they could lose their license for prescribing to someone they know is addicted to opiates.
Avatar m tn If she was 1 year clean then why is she going on methadone? Methadone is a maintenance drug for heroin users but if she is clean she should not need to go onto it. You have to decide what is best for you and we cannot tell you what to do. I would tell her though that methadone is the last thing that she will want to go onto. It works well for heroin addicts short term but if she uses it longer than a few months or a year she will have a heck of a time getting off of it....
Avatar m tn If you choose to try taper yourself, see if your doctor can write you a prescription for some Requip for restlessness, Neurontin for anxiety and malaise, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose, for sleep and Klonopin which will be helpful for sleeplessness and anxiety. It will make your withdrawals easier. Valerian and Magnesium is sometimes helpful remedies over the counter.
Avatar f tn I have heard about methadone for treating opiate addiction, I want to hear more about it. I've been doing 10 to 12 10/325 hydrocone for the last two years approching three. I'm only 18 when I started them I weighed 196 and was in extremly good shape, now i m 6 feet one inch and weigh 156 I feel like I'm dying slowly and the worst part of all this is worrying about how I'm gonna get high next I planned on going to college but I don't see that happening right now.
Avatar f tn The perfect way of opiate addiction treatment is a rapid detox in combination with a therapy for eliminating cravings.
Avatar f tn If a person has a chronic condition (reverse lordosis of the cervical spine) and needs pain control despite a history of opiate addiction, which would you recommend...methadone or sub? When she was diagnosised they placed her on vicodin's for the pain. She took them as prescribed but with the opiate addiction only a few months behind her, she hated feeling drugged and having to rely on them for her pain so she had the dr. prescribe her sub for it instead.
Avatar f tn OP would need an evaluation and acceptance into a methadone treatment program and acceptance into it to qualify for a methadone program- however they do not provide methadone for ongoing chronic medical conditions.
797052 tn?1240511394 So all in all I have to say it worked but its for sure not for everyone, it can become a problem in itself, I became just as addicted to sub as any other opiate. Anyways sorry for rambling and getting off the subject, but dont start with the methadone, if you already have stop now and just tough it out, I promise you taking the methadone will only compound the problem, in no way will it lessen the w/d's that you will eventually have to face.
Avatar m tn Really need a little help. I have been using Oxycontin for almost 2 years now and have wanted to stop soo bad. I was using between 200-300mgs.a day. Had a friend give me some methadone a while back and began to use only when I couldn't find anymore Oxy using on and off in small doses 1-2 10 mg. tablets. I finally built the strength to get off the opiates and have not used Oxy for 8 days now. Since I've never seen a doctor I know very little about methadone or how to use it.
Avatar n tn I found this, whic seems to be relevant: "Be very careful, the official "lethal dose" for methadone is 25mg for a non-tolerant adult. This means as little as 25mg of methadone has been known to kill adults with no tolerance to opiates. This is a surprisingly low lethal dosage for many people, but I assure you it is true. Methadone has a very long half-life, unlike heroin, which is a short-acting opiate.
