I wish i had never been offered Methadone. I never noticed any side effects up untill about 2yrs ago. I have every known side effect,but the worst one of all at the moment is excessive sweating. My quality of life is zero. I sweat from head to toe most days all day. I sit with ice ,cold can's of juice sitting on my cheek's,my breasts and my wrists. Ive put on 4st in weight,and i know this wont be helping the situation. I don't know what to do anymore.
When methadone is taken under medical supervision, long-term maintenance causes no adverse effects to the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, bones, blood, brain, or other vital body organs. Methadone produces no serious side effects, although some patients experience minor symptoms such as constipation, water retention, drowsiness, skin rash, excessive sweating, and changes in libido. Once methadone dosage is adjusted and stabilized or tolerance increases, these symptoms usually subside.
It could be a side effect of the methadone or even an allergic type reaction to it. I remember when I took Macrobid (antibiotic) for a urinary infection, I had a high fever (102.3) every time I would take it, so I called my doctor's office and they told me to stop it immediately because I was having an allergic reaction to it. As it turned out, my father had had this same type of reaction to it a couple years before.
When i met him(1990) he had already started to slow down(just weekends). I really need to know what are the most common side effects that everyone goes threw. Please i am scared. The hospital where he is being treated has classes for him & I so that we both can beaware of the whole situation. Is anyone familar with YALE Hospital. One of the best in the country.

Some of those symptoms may be similar to withdrawal side effects of Incivek changing the effect of Methadone, so it may be hard to differentiate. And then there is the psychological component of both triple tx and Methadone to consider as you experience side effects.
I would also encourage you to write down your side effects so your doctor can help you determine what's what.
Regrettably, I've been an M.M.T.(methadone maintenance treatment) patient for about 10years, give or take 6mo's or a year. I have gained a significant amount of weight since the inception of M.M.T. I'm 31 yrs. old & take 140 mg's a day. I started out on super high doses, i.e.400mg's/day,then they split my dose @190mg's in the a.m. & another 190mg's in the p.m. for about the 1st 5yrs. After the 1st 5yrs.
Are you injecting prior to bed? The sweating and aches waking you up? And, did this sweating just start with the increase or did it start w/the lowest dose? Mine started w/the low dose. Sorry for all the questions. Just want to get an idea of how it all has transpired. I did see gradual improvements if it's any consolation.

However, I have been having some pretty difficult side effects that have become more uncomfortable since my 50mcg increase. The symptoms have been extreme sweating even when it's cooler. Moving around at a slow pace I break out into a sweat, my head drenched. My menstrual cycle has not regulated either, prolonged bleeding. My appetite has increased as well as anxiety. I have chest heaviness on and off, too.
Normal Range 0.40-5.00 and my results last week were 4.63.
Thanks for the info! I will be seeing the Internist thursday and I just wanted to run it by some one else before I go for my appt. I also take desipramine for my headaches and I've read that one of the side effects can be sweating.
While the symptoms you describe could be attributed to a thyroid condition, the tiredness, sweating, stress/anxiety may also be side effects of the methadone. Roxi-codeine is the same as oxycodone/oxycontin. Side effects of oxycodone include tiredness, sweating, nausea, flu-like symptoms, as well as many others. Oxycodone can also cause insufficiency of the Hypothalamus and Pituitary Gland, which could explain the fluctuating testosterone levels.

I want to second everything that Clong said & to add that at certain doses, both Methadone & Subs can make one sweat. This, along with weight gain & somnolence may be a sign of too high a dose. I've done both drugs & personally, found the side-effects on M'done to be more tolerable. As stated above, all the more reason to come off.

ve been suffering some mild insomnia, excess sweating, but perhaps most off putting is the lack of libido and sexual response!! I realise these are listed side effects, but will these resolve themselves or are they something I'm simply stuck with if I chose to continue with the medication? I'm finding the medication helpful, and I want to continue, but the last side effect in particular is concerning for me as my husbands "love language" is physical intimacy.
