methadone recovery

ve just, yesterday, taken my last dose of methadone linctus. Been on heroin and methadone for 20 years, but have been totally stable on meth for 3 now. It's taken the 3 years to get down from 80ml, more through fear than anything else, but I've also been gently pushed by my counsellor. I got right right down to 1ml, which i took for a week. I know 1ml is a ridiculously small amount, but it made a dfference, psychologically.

I was once on 40mg of hydrocone a day. Then, methadone, starting at 20mg and with the help of a wonderful legit Dr. I found myself walking out the pharmacy with a prescription for 110mg a day. what a country. The biggest drug dealer wears a stethoscope and the biggest distributor has "every day low prices". Anyway, my chronic knee pain got me a lot of legal medication. Methadone, Hydrocodone, Valium, Klonopin, Soma...and a few others.

Hi hang in there I was on 80mgs and decrease sort of fast 5mgs a week till I got down to 4mgs ran that a week I was doing pain pills before I went on methadone, I couldn't stand the methadone as most people cant weel my wds were mild until I quit then they kicked my but I did tyn.

Should I keep going on this path of nightmares, anxiety, and depression or should I consult a methadone clinic? It seems stupid to do that now having been detoxed of opiates for so long but it seems like its still an issue. I moved away from my home and CT for weeks to stop. Is there anyone with input on long term recovery?

i wont know till that day comes, so its hard to tell where i am at on my recovery. i have no urges but is it cause of the methadone is just doing its job? i dont want to be on it for another 5 yrs you know.

dont quit posting, i dont think it is because we dont believe in methadone...we support all tyoes of recovery, but we also say what we think..

I didn't get anymore methadone. I heard horror stories on that after reading so many posts. So I am not getting any. I quit a few days before Thankgiving, fell off the wagon and am back now. I feel strong now. Thanks for both posting that though. Hopefully someone else seeing it will not take that route and just deal with the vicodin withdrawals. This is bad enough!

I got out of jail was there 5 days was takn 55 mg of methadone over a yr wen I got out didn't want to go back so I'm kicking cold Turkey but I want to recover wat all does my body need that I dnt naturally have no more I feel crappy

i was on suboxon my doctor given it to me left put me on methadone the doctor that was giving me the methadone left so ive gone threw 2 doctors now a f.p.

One more question I have is if anyone can tell me why some people decide to switch to subs from methadone towards the end of recovery? Is it easier to get off than methadone? Is it better? I know some say to make the switch when ur methadone dose is at 20mg or lower so its easier. This forum has been a great resource for me during my recovery and I want to thank you all for ur advice.

ve been on and off methadone, oxycontin, oxycodone since age 12 and am 24 in a couple weeks. My supplier (the last ******* person on the planet that should be) cut me off, never heard a word from here again this last weekend. Don't know why. I've got to hide it from everyone, take care of my daughter (terrible twos, jesus), pets, house, errands like I'm just merely under the weather. Its so hard and I'm scared every minute, time just dragging ***.

Does he plan to stay on meth maintenance for a long time? What kind of recovery is he doing, other than taking methadone? If he wants to get off the methadone and treat his disease with therapy and NA, then we can help. If he wants to stay on methadone, I'm afraid you may have to get used to the new situation. I hate to say that, but that was my experience. It took some time, but I went from not caring and unable to orgasm to wanting it all the time and couldn't control my orgasm.

IF i took 30 mgs today and dropped 5 mgs daily after a 5 day NON methadone intake... would the withdrqwls be just the same...as if i can wheen down with 20 pills and make tham last a week and a half or 2 ?

K...was reading a post and it made me stop and think....if someone is on sub or methadone, are they considered clean? I never did feel i was "clean" when i took sub..but then again when i used it my intentions werent to qquit narcotics..only to avoid wds..just thinkin bout it cos sub, methadone, oxy and hydro..and more..are all narcotics...would u be clean if u were on tramadol after quitting your doc? It is narcotic like they say...but can be a doc for many..

Your right on schedule. The physical part of detox will start letting up a bit, but, this is the time when the mental struggle kicks in. You'll have good days and bad days, so you have to stay focused on recovery. Be sure the sources are cut and that you've told a few trusted people about your addiction. You should also be in after care - NA meetings and the like.

Ok, today is the end of day 1... I started eating norcos about 2 years ago & gradually worked my way up to popping 3 @ time, 5/6 times per day. I was spending over $1000 per month- For the last 18 months...like most people, i realized i had a problem-when my bottle was completely empty for the first time. @ that point, that was the worst feeling i've ever felt! I remember having cold/sweats, crying because my back was "on fire". I felt like the life was sucked right outta me.

do i have a better chance tapering off oxys or methadone i heard the shelf life of the methadone makes detoxing off them so hard...and the oxys not the oxycodone but the roxys 30s and then 15 and then tapering off that way was better ..i am living in detox daily with 20 mg of methadone i have to take 60 mg a day to feel like a person..i have college and kids and i need to get clean..

I have been on methadone and percocet, very low dose, like 20 mg a day on the methadone and 10 mg a day on the percocet, but it has been probably 15 years that I have been taking this for chronic headaches. I used to be hopeful that I could get off someday but then after my husband died, and the major depression set it, it was just hard.

i started to hang with a bad crowd and b4 i knew it i had a very bad methadone addiction. This girl was giving it to me daily(for about 3 months) saying it would help with depression. lo and behold i got sick once the meds ran out and had no way of caring for my girls. she had me go to a methadone clinic and they put me on it. (w/out even doing a drug screen) Now it is 5 yrs later and i've been trying so hard to detox and it seems to not be working.

I would talk to your OB, your clinic doctor is going to put your addiction recovery before the health of your baby. I know it is very important for your recovery that you stay on the methadone but your OB may want to lower the dosage as it is not the best thing to be taking while pregnant. The reason they say methadone is safe while pregnancy is because it is a monitored treatment and it keeps you from getting pain killers or heroin off the street, plus this way you know it is clean.

Hey y'all my name is Kevin and I've been an opiate abuser for close to 5 years now. Just recently I've stopped using illegal drugs and "switched" to methadone at a clinic that is over an hour away from where i live. Ok...I recently got off methadone after a 21 day detox from a 120 mg a day hydrocodone addiction.. coming off the methadone was awful!! Way worse than coming off the pilz cold turkey. I have have been on methadone & zanax for 7yrs 40mg methadone & 31/2 mg zanax and slowly tappering off the methadone 5mg a week to reach 30mg to get on bupenorphen for 1to2 months so i can get off methadone because of longer w/d so i have heard i would appriciate any info thanks

I just wanted to respond to feohmans comment about doctors/anyone advising people to switch from methadone to suboxone in order to detox off of methadone. I think most informed medical proffesionals do this is because short suboxone detox's have been shown to mitigate the severity of methadone withdrawals considerably. I know from my own experience that as i tapered down off of my methadone dose i had periods of extreme discomfort.
