I know they can go crazy high with the dose. I have use methadone for pain and was so surprised at how very lil it took to make a difference and how very lil it took to make me nod if I stopped for a moment. Have you considered this our tapering a bit to see ? Beyond this I recommend a full check up with your Dr. to make sure there is no under lying cause. I wish you well.
effexor does work right away, i know zoloft, paxil, SSRI's take almost a month to kick in, this isn't the case with effexor. It must have been a high amount, b/c i am seriously ill from taking 300 mg. All I know is i felt normal, didn't have the residual methadone withdrawal crap, could sleep 8 hours, didn't have crazy dreams and everything else that goes along with opiate withdrawal.

I want to tell all of you that I could never have made it thru these last 10 days without yall.. For that I am forever greatful.. I took my last dose of methadone 10 days ago and started on Subutex. For the past 4 nights I have not been able to sleep. I am not in withdrawls anymore I just cant go to sleep. It's like when I finally get to lay my head down my mind wont stop going 90mph. I am also very very very emotional but that only really bothers me at night too.
So the worst I felt was that I had a little insomnia for a few days. Immediately after I took my first dose of Suboxine, I felt totally normal---like the kind of normal you felt like before you started doing drugs and your mind has this feeling of clarity. I was totally amazed at how fast it worked. I'm suppose to take it twice daily, but I forget to take my 2nd dose of the day--don't need it anyway.
I used 8 mgs sub a day and my last methadone dose was 160mgs. Every body is different, but subs are strong and accumulate in your system. 16mgs seems high for 50mgs of methadone, you may want to talk to you doctor about that. With sub, less is more. If you take more than enough to feel okay, then it doesn't work as well. My opinion, give the subs a chance, but adjust it to be comfortable. My thinking was more clear on subs than methadone.
Hi well for me I use to node out at the most inaprperet times I was on 150mg though......I would lower your dose... many of us have come off of methadone and it is a tuff detox but methadone maintenance ***** the life out of you ...your best bet is to come off it all together and we can help you with that............
I waited a full 4 days from my last methadone dose before I took 4 mgs of suboxone, incrementally increased by 2 mgs every 4 hours until I felt comfortable.
I finally stabilised at 12 mgs and began detoxing (2mgs daily) the very next day. Within 8 days I was off the suboxone (and the methadone) and I was generally suprised at how painless it actually was. Thats not to say I didnt feel withdrawals but they were much less severe than the detoxes I had done over the years..

My question is that when I see him during the late afternoon he is very anxious, talking fast, but mixed w/ periods of tiredness. Is this normal when taking methadone or do I need to be worried that he is taking something else? I know that the clinic does random urine screens to make sure nothing else is in their system but you never know. Please help me with your advice!!
Instead of jail she went into treatment. She still is on a very high dose of methadone, the last time I asked she was at 60mg. There are so many more issues with her treatment I have questions about. How long is methadone maintenance? It appears to me she has replaced her old habit with a legal habit.. I really worry about her.
I have been on this dose for 5 years and have been able to gain my life back. The trick to using Methadone for pain is to keep the dose low and not go up. Methadone is a long acting pain reliever and works very well if you do not over use it. In the beginning it may take a week or so to get the drug into your system and working properly.
I was on methadone for 10 years. While on it I also abused it. My dose for the first 5 or 6 years was 160mg and the last few I was at about 100mg. I also would buy peoples take home bottles when I could and always double my dose when I got my Saturday bottle. During that they me I also abused Xanax for years but the last year I was doing that maybe once a week. I haven't put anything else in my system for about three years.
My fiance of 7 years and 3 kids together has been clean of heroin for over a year and has been on methadone since off heroin, I couldn't tell you his dose because he has told me a few #mg so im not positive.....anyways my question is he recently got caught looking up online " how to pass a opiate drug test" and recently failed one supposedly due to a computer glitch and told me hes fighting it and is going to trial for a hearing blah blah blah...
What you are experiencing from missing your dose is very normal...I was on methadone for almost 2 years.I went c/t off of 25 mgs and I'm coming up on 10 months clean.If I can help you out in any way please fell free to shoot me a pm anytime.All the best...
30 mon-fri. On weekends he has to dose at 6am. He got his normal dose today, unless the clinic made a mistake & gave him too much. He had to take it 16 hours after his last dose instead of 24 hours because of the clinic weekend hours. It is affecting him differently. He has been with me constantly so I am sure he has not taken any other drugs. He has sweat dripping off his forehead & he is moaning, at times making a slight gurgling sound. His heart rate seems fine.
