1264367 tn?1408104163 I have gastroparesis, and GERD, and am on methadone maintenance. I noticed I started having problems as soon as I started the Methadone Clinic, 3 yrs ago. I recently had an endoscopy and waiting on the biopsy results. I'm so sick of not being able to eat anything. I'm living off of oatmeal and can't over eat. But it's not over eating because I've been starving. I can only eat a small bowl of oatmeal before I take my methadone and then another small one for lunch.
Avatar f tn i am on methadone maintenance for opiate addiction, if methadone is also an opiate blocker what prescription meds will give me relief from my pain? i mean, do i take higher doses of opiate to get relief from my pain or is there a certain pain med i need to take while on methadone to get relief from my pain? please HELP!!!!
Avatar f tn i agree with the others i would not take methadone to come off of tramdol at all because the w/d from methadone is 100x worse then tramdol ever could be. I am on methadone and its helped me but also when I come off it will be hard. You can read all kinds post on here about m'done detox....
Avatar f tn Hi I am new to Medhelp so if I double posted I am sorry. Anyway I am preg and was addicted to hydrocodone 10 mg 3X a day. I wanted to just stop cold turkey but was unable to cause of the WD and being preg. I went to a Dr w/my OB's advice to get on Suboxone, but he wouldn't cause he said Methadone is what is used while preg as it is safe? He started me on 10 mg 3X day which is WAY to strong so I am now trying 5mg 2X a day.
Avatar f tn What is Methadone?: Methadone is an opiate that was first introduced after World War II as an alternative to morphine. Methadone was originally thought to be less addictive because of its extremely long half life. Today, methadone is used as an analgesic for pain management and more popularly as replacement therapy for heroin and other opiate addictions. Methadone is a cheap alternative to other opiate based medications which outweighs it potency when prescribing.
Avatar f tn Most physicians have little to no experience with (or much knowledge of) methadone and how it works and especially methadone and pregnancy. A doctor must hold special licensing to prescribe methadone for opiate addiction, and have the appropriate opiate-substitution training to do so. Therefore, you may not always get the current or correct advice from a general physician or OB-GYN. Your methadone clinic can't steer you to an OB-GYN with the correct addiction training.
Avatar m tn I am no doctor but it is my opinion that you will go thru withdraw from the methadone, which is much worse than hydro. Methadone has a very long shelf life. Please be careful mixing the done with anything. A whole bunch of people that I know have died doing just what you are doing. Methadone stays in your system a long dang time. Be careful because when you play with fire you will get burned. If I were you, I would stay far away from the methadone. Just my opinion.
14496752 tn?1434842374 ve used my share of methadone. The only drug that can give methadone a run for its money regarding withdrawal horror stories is Subutex/Suboxone.
Avatar n tn My opinion is throw the methadone away. One milligram of methadone is equal to 3 milligrams of morphine,so ten milligrams of methadone isn't such a small dose at all.I know it's rough but YOU CAN DO THIS and you don't need that methadone,it's not worth the risk.Sadinmichigan has a journal entry pertaining to methadone written by a doctor who treats patients comming off of it,you should give it a look.Best of luck to you....
Avatar f tn As with heroin and all other opiates, methadone tolerance and methadone dependence usually develop with repeated doses. Tolerance to Methadone administered in a pain-control program usually occurs during the first few weeks of use; whereas respiratory depression, sedation, and nausea can be seen immediately.
434196 tn?1206385870 I have a friend who is prescribed methadone and 5mg oxycodone. And I always thought methadone was a opioid blocker. So wouldn't that bock the oxycodone??
Avatar f tn That is an interesting question, but I suspect it is not the one you really want to ask. Methadone per se, does not damage the heart, however long term use of methadone does slightly increase the mortality from heart disease. The etiology (and reasoning) is as follows. (1) Methadone affects respirations. A person on methadone will have a slighty-less that optimal resting breathing rate.
Avatar n tn HI you can get methadose from a doctor and pick it up at a pharmacy it is methadone in pill form methadone is usually liquid and is dispensed at clinics you have to go every day to get it most doctors cannot prescribe methadone hence why so many go to the clinics this is nasty stuff I was on it 6 1/2 yrs I would run the other way if someone ever offered to me again it is not a way to get around withdrawals methadone withdrawals are some of the worst you can experence your best off to detox wha
Avatar f tn My doctor gave me methadone to wean myself off of the 8-9 norco's (vicodin) I was taking per day for chronic neck pain since a car accident in 2007. The first day on a low dosage of methadone seemed to work for me and I needed less of the norco's. However, the second day on the methadone gave me a horrible reaction -- I couldn't even get out of bed. I had a constant headache.
Avatar f tn I have been going to a methadone clinic for 7 years, but I have started a new job that their hours will not agree with the clinic. Please help me with finding a Dr. that will write methadone in their office, please, I need someones help!!
Avatar f tn Please consult a doctor. Methadone is not something you want to try and take on your own. You are correct in being scared of it. I have heard many horror stories about people taking it without being under the supervision of a medical proffesional.
Avatar n tn I’ve been prescribed 10mg methadone x2 daily and 2weeks ago my dr changed it to 10mg OxyContin x2 daily. I now have double vision and am listless and cold. I have several methadone left from my old prescription. Would I be able to change and take the methadone instead of the OxyContin until I can talk to my dr on Monday. I was told the change was due to something from my blood work showing up wrong?
Avatar f tn they are speaking of using benzos like xanax after you have stopped the methadone and are in WDs....I have never taken methadone but my son worked at a clinic and if the person tested positive for benzos they could not have their dose and it was against the rules...You should talk to your doctor about any medications u decide to use...especially if you are still taking methadone....it is good that you are interested in quitting..lots of support here..
Avatar m tn When i did quit i waited 30 hrs and then took 20 mg of methadone. I then waited 24 hrs and took another 20 mg of methadone. After that i went 60 hrs and was feeling psychilogically wierd so i took 7.5 mg of methadone. So all together, in five days i had 47.5 m of methadone. My question is, with having takin this much of methadone in five days, will i withdrawal from the methadone?
Avatar m tn I just started the triple treatment yesterday. I have been on methadone maintenance for 15 months and from what I've been reading the Incivek somehow uses your methadone faster and you will need a dosage change. Has anyone had this same issue. My gastro said not to worry about this issue too much. Just told me to keep track of symptoms but the side effect symptoms are the same as opiate withdrawal symptoms. How do I know what is is a side effect of?
Avatar n tn Most of the time depending on what mg your on of methadone it has a blocker so to speak not really cant think of another word that you never really feel you lortab when on methadone. I am on methadone an have been for 2 yrs now and when I first started methadone I ws still taking lortabs etc and I couldn't feel them unless I took a bunch like 15 or 20. Why did your doc want you to go on methadone w/lortab? Do you get it from a pcp doc> If you have any questions feel free message me.
5527883 tn?1392586811 Methadone is an extremely dangerous drug, it is so powerful that once you substitute methadone for pills, the pills are no longer effective. Thus you are left scrambling to find methadone. It does have its uses in heroin or massive pill abuse but if your brother had got down to half a vicodin a day he is really playing with fire using methadone. Try to convince him to stop or come on here and read the methadone horror stories.
Avatar m tn ve been taking methadone 10mg twice a day with oxycodone 10mg for breakthrough up to 3x daily. My wife was telling me she thought the methadone had been making me not care about life the way I did before being switched from morphine to methadone. Anyway, I have a lot of problems and still don't know if the med. switch is related to that. To get to the point, I decided to try pull away from methadone after my doctor really wasn't getting it(he just wanted to lower dose).
571167 tn?1223214465 It really began with being put on Methadone 10mg twice daily for chronic pain BY a Pain Management MD. The Methadone worked fairly good for the pain, but I attributed the "brain fog" to my being Menopausal also happening at the same time AND having a teenager in the house pushing my buttons. I lost my health ins coverage last year and could not afford to see the PM MD, so I weaned myself off the Methadone over several months. Now I am 90% clearer mentally!
Avatar f tn I need to know if abilify decreases methadone? Has anyone been on these two meds at the same time? Can you tell me how it made you feel? I was prescribed abilify but haven't started it yet because I am unsure of the interaction. Some say it causes withdrawal for the methadone and some say it increases methadone, talk about confusing!! Please tell me your experience or opinion.
Avatar m tn hey....DON'T GO TO METHADONE!!!!!!!!!....you would be way better off just stopping what your on now! Methadone is much, much, harder to get off!!!!.....I was taking oxy, hydro, perc, anything I could find...got tired of withdrawals when I didn't have any ...then I was told "take methadone, it's much easier to get off" RIGHT!!..looking back had I just tapered them I would have been much better off! I was on methadone for 7+yrs...worse yrs of my life!
Avatar f tn Methadone was the devil for me. definetly talk to your OB. That is overkill. Every doctor seems to have different opinions but please , what ever you do, do not get addicted to methadone.
