Avatar f tn Boith drugs have a long half life so a long wd period, both drugs are narcotics...sub being the stronger of the two drugs mg for mg. Methadone is approved for pain relief in the US, sub is not. Main thing is she gets clean...neither drug is a miracle worker so if someone tells u so, dont listen.
Avatar f tn The one bad thing about methadone usage for long periods, the doses for pain always increase over time leading to very high dosages and severe dependence. In my experience with suboxone, it had no noticeable pain relieving benefits. From what I understand the best pain relief that buprenorphine can provide comes from Buprenex which I believe only comes as injections.
Avatar f tn If you use methadone for no more than 1 or 2 weeks it can spare you A LOT of pain and suffering, but if you use it unwisely I think it's a big mistake like gnarly was saying.
Avatar m tn No, none of my doctors would ever give me anything like that to help. Sometimes I wish they did LOL.
Avatar f tn t having to raise the dose to meet th epain need of their patient. And also methadone has shown to be a good pain med used for long term chronic pain relief becauuse of the above reason (and it's much cheaper). I do have to say you were on a heavy dose of oxy if i understand correctly..20mg 1 in the am, 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening.
Avatar f tn Hospice does its best to prevent suffering from the pain of cancer, and methadone is an excellent pain medication. Morphine is preferred for the treatment of COPD because a doctor can better control its effect on breathing, however, both morphine and methadone work in similar ways -- it is just that methadone suppresses the breathing longer. At end of life, it doesn't matter much which medication you use.
Avatar f tn Most recently, I have been on 60 mg of methadone daily for 10 years. The pain management doctor in Oregon told me that it is illegal for any pain management doctor or any primary care physician to prescribe methadone to a patient with the diagnosis of "opiate use disorder" here in Oregon. She is therefore cutting me off cold turkey and refuses to titrate me down. This sounds incredibly wrong and inhumane. is this actually true?? If so, what are myoptions?
5772022 tn?1373978536 I was put on methadone 14 years ago for chronic pain. 4 years ago I was taken off of it cold turkey. In desperation a got into a methadone clinic. I'm finding that the liquid methadone doesn't seem to work on pain as the pills did. Is this In my head or is there really a difference. Also is this site for online addiction support or is it medical advice. Kind of confused on that issue.
408795 tn?1324935675 I was on Methadone for 1 year exactly almost to the day. I went in for treatment after abusing pain pills as well as fetanyl pacthes among other things. That was in 2006 and has nothing to do with my Hep C as I just found out I had it this past January. My point is it is defiantly likely not to have you trapped on it for life cause I am living proof that you can get off it you just have to want to not trade one thing for the other.
Avatar f tn truth is you can not live on these pills the rest of your life. many of the members that took the pills for actual pain and found since getting off the pills the pain is much less than when taking the pills. i think i have even heard that research show the mind creates pain in order to get more of the meds. as far as the suboxon and methadone goes i have never taken either, but in the health pages you will fond a thread on suboxon which is our members personal experiences.
Avatar n tn I am on Methadone for chronic pain management. Did you try any other drugs first? it's a little strange if you did not try any other medications and they put on Methadone to begin with. Did you discuss that with the doctor? Methadone builds up in the system very quickly in some people. I just started taking it 2 weeks ago. I was very weak, very sleep. My blood pressure is normally low but it dropped to 115/50. The Methadone built up so quickly in my system.
631581 tn?1224844661 But they do not have chronic pain. For those of us sipping from the chalice of chronic pain life has a different feel to it all together. A very different feel. I'm now using methadone and I know it to be a real dragon for coming off but then I'm wondering, "Will I ever come off?" my pain is real and severe enough I just don't know.
Avatar f tn Most pain clinics in TN will not consider methadone treatment. Does any one know of a pain management physician in NC, KY, or GA that is not afraid to treat a real chronic pain patient with methadone? The advisors at SAMHSA suggest I go to another state and try "pain advocacy organizations". I am trying. I am also looking for a doctor named David J. Wilmont that wrote an excellent paper called "Prescribing Methadone for Pain". Can't find him on any registry.
1476285 tn?1287337784 I am interested in info from anyone doing the new 3-drug regime w/ interferon, ribavirin and telaprevir who are also taking suboxone. I am currently on suboxone: 3/5's to 1/2 tab per day. I wasn't put on it for drug abuse but I was on pain meds (lortab & fentenayl patch) for chronic pain. I went on suboxone to get off the pain mgmt regime.
939983 tn?1262528060 5 mg of hydrocodone is equivalent to about 15 mg of methadone. But this is for single dose not for long term pain management treatment. Most physicians beleive in the good practice to start low, go slow. Remember that methadone builds up in your system. It is stored in your body tissues. So it may take days before the full effectiveness of methadone is realized. Methadone levels in the blood will continue to increase for five days from the initial dose.
Avatar m tn I was curious because this is a recommended treatment for a friend and it seems like there would be a conflict between the two treatments.
Avatar f tn Actually there are several very good articles on the use of methadone for long term treatment of chronic pain. It is beleived to be the narcotic least apt to be abused and has the least side effects. I'm sorry I forgot the author (a respected PM Physician) of the best and most informative article but maybe someone here will remember. I found it by goggling it. Dosage may have to be increased in time but again they beleive not as often as other opiates.
1753993 tn?1312374710 Doctors CAN prescribe methadone for indications other than addiction , and for those patients the doctor can provide a prescription for 30 days of treatment, and up to two additional prescriptions for another 60 days, providing all three scripts are for the same dose and directions for use. But for addiction, it is illegal to prescribe methadone-- or any other opioid-- except for the two exceptions described above.
Avatar n tn There is not evidence based studies to support that it gets in your bones, Methadone is actually stored in fat cells. As for the horror stories of how terrible Methadone withdrawal is, please know that methadone withdrawal is the same as other opioid withdrawal. Methadone has a very long half life, considering the individual is on a stable dose, early withdrawal wouldn't kick in until 48 hours since last dose, and full blown withdrawal could take 72 hours or longer since last dose.
Avatar f tn Yes Suzi, I had lots of back pain. All sorts of strange joint conditions. For one week I could not straighten my left leg. Hang in there it should pass.
Avatar f tn I was previously on a variety of pain medications, oxicodone ms cotin I was then told from clinic I would have to go to a pain center and they would not be able to help me I then found out how addicted I was I went searching for a pain center to no avail and ended up finding a dr that would give methadone and the stuff they give to herion addics I could not believe I was now considered a addict I ended up seeing this dr and he gave me the methadone for pain 60mls a day I was doing fine at first
631581 tn?1224844661 Since it was considerably less expensive than oxycontin I agreed to try it, and as it was as effective for pain control as oxycontin was I have continued with methadone for about 5 years now, with vicodin es for breakthrough pain. I take 20mg x 3 per day Basically I have sufficient pain control to function at about an 80% normal ability. Several months ago I was diagnosed as having seriously depleted calcium.
