477746 tn?1254784547 I see post after post of people talking about methadone addiction and withdrawal. I'm getting the impression that methadone is being made available as a 'band-aid' for opioid addiction that often just ends up making things worse. Is this a fair impression to get? Anyone credit methadone for helping them break an addiction? As I understand it, methadone (at prescribed doses) does not get one high.
1021643 tn?1265573848 Has anyone tried Ultra Rapid Opioid Detoxification (U.R.O.D). I am on methadone and i don't want to withdrawal the methadone for 1 year. I will trawel from Norway to Belgrade for detox from methadone. I was at 150 mg, I am now at 100 mg and will try to stay at 70 mg methadone and little diazepam before detox 5 of january. Has anyone been in Belgrade in the Dr. Vorobiev and tried this detox method, either in Belgrade or US or any place with the same detox?
542867 tn?1214172629 Okay, let me clear this up for you guys. I use 400mg of oxycodone a day for the last 3 years (prescribed). I'm in severe chronic pain (and now withdrawal). I just took 12mg of Lopermide (The active ingredient in Immodium AD) and it greatly inhibited my opiate withdrawal (about 70%), and withdrawal I describe as the worst possible feeling in existence. I feel incredibly better 30minutes after taking it.
Avatar f tn Nucynta will keep you from feeling withdrawal, it is a full agonist synthetic opioid, just like methadone. Personally, I would taper down as low as you can before the switch. Methadone is very strong, and if I'm not mistaken, Nucynta is closer to a percocet. You will be okay, and the new child should lift your spirits. I agree with your doctor about the methadone, you don't want to stay on it too long. Let us know how it goes.
3160774 tn?1343705010 No more withdrawal. Methadone is a long acting opioid, so I reached about a 25 on the COWS scale, longer than necessary. I waited until I had every symptom before induction. I probably would have been fine at 48hrs, but was only going to do it once. Good luck.
Avatar f tn t that qualify you for clinic help at an opioid treatment center? It does look like they really discourage using methadone for pain in the state of Oregon. But with a history that is full including the diagnosis you have, would think you could continue at a clinic. I understand you may not want to. For personal reasons. But that may be your only option. You are saying they won't take you though? https://www.verywellmind.
Avatar f tn the decision to enter into chronic opioid therapy (COT) is not to be taken lightly. While opioid analgesics can be effective for some chronic pain, for certain pain syndromes, it does not relieve much pain. Also, entering into COT means that you will become dependent on the drug, and opioid tolerance will eventually lower the effectiveness of your medication. There is also risk of addiction in 5%-10% of people who begin COT.
738895 tn?1234654277 I know this post is old but just in case someone stumbles on this page like i did I will give the knowledge i have. Methadone (used properly) can absolutely help KICK any opioid addiction. Methadone is definitely a synthetic product. Most, not all, will not get the desired buzz from methadone. Sobriety is a new way of life a lot of addicts want or can't remember but just can't get through the minimum 30 days of withdrawal..
Avatar m tn my husband is on methadone and his NP recommended klonopin for the hallucinations that he has at night so I know this is normal for methadone. As for the tril., I don't think it'a a CNS depressant. I have been on Tegretal and it does not affect you that way. I think you are ok and can take your Dr's word as well as the pharmacist's word that you will be ok.
Avatar m tn High there. Glad to hear you want to get clean. So, what is your goal? Do you want to get off everything and use methadone or subs to avoid the acute withdrawal or are you going for a maintenance program? I used subs to get me off of methadone, so my opinion is biased, but I would use subs over methadone. I did a 20 day fast sub taper to avoid acute methadone withdrawal. Subs didn't get me high the way methadone did.
Avatar f tn The neurotransmitters in your brain may not even be able to function on their own either. Methadone or suboxone, for individuals that have serious long term addictions to opiods, may be your ONLY chance at sobriety. Though it will take time, you can at least be comfortable and you won't have to suffer withdrawal. It will be a slow process. Do you want to take more time or have a stroke trying to prove to ignorant people that you can do it without help??? Remember addiction is a disease!
Avatar n tn This individual will almost certainly experience opioid withdrawal. While "unpleasant" this will not be life-threatening. Early symptoms of withdrawal include: Agitation Anxiety Muscle aches Increased tearing Insomnia Runny nose Sweating Yawning Late symptoms of withdrawal include: Abdominal cramping Diarrhea Dilated pupils Goose bumps Nausea Vomiting http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000949.
1253584 tn?1332877954 The point is, you need to be in at least mild to mod. withdrawal for it to work out the best. That day that I went from methadone to sub was a painful lesson so just wait as long as you can before you try to get on it. The last thing we need is more pain right? My whole experience with opiates - and I'm sure you can agree - has been absolute hell.
Avatar m tn If you suddenly stop taking opioids after taking them regularly for an extended period of time, you will experience opioid withdrawal syndrome.
Avatar f tn I still feel very weak. I never really took more than 4mg a day and have only been on them for 7 months. I took a 50mg tramadol yesterday around my 72 hour. Does that restart my withdraw process all over again from the beginning? Especially since the subs should be completely out of my system by now.
Avatar n tn Subutex is what keeps you from getting dope sick, helps stop the cravings and obsessing over using opioids, and it is very effective at preventing withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn You will feel some withdrawal once the methadone is out of your system. Just push through it, maybe two days for the worst of it. Be sure to keep your fluids up and be sure to eat. If this should happen again, try instead to taper down on the Tramadol before going to methadone. A slow, steady taper will help you avoid the more significant withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn even though the dr sas it works id rather hear it from someone who takes it. i currently take oxycodone30 and methadone 10 for my pain.he wants to slowly take me off methadone then try suboxone.scared and confused all ive read on suboxone is to get off narcotics but i need pain control.
Avatar f tn ve been buying off the streets and it keeps me completely broke. I bought a methadone (one) and it really worked and lasted for approximately two days. HELP SOMEONE!!!!
Avatar f tn My doc weaned me off methadone by using a secondary short-acting opioid for a few months that helped me wean off the methadone and on to the other opioid without the long half life. It is tough -- get help. And please listen to the medical advice at your clinic. They may have an addiction specialist that can offer alternatives to the method I described. Suboxone is popular these days. Get help.
