Avatar m tn Hello Papagarv1, Welcome. Sorry I am late in responding to your question. You've asked for no judgement - you won't get that from me. Very sadly ppl in chronic pain have been driven to all kinds sources to treat it. I don't condone buying opiates off the street, especially such a complex med like Methadone. Her risks are very very high! Please do your research. My concern is for her physical safety. Now I'll shut up and answer your question.
Avatar m tn I have been on a high dose of Methadone for a number of years for Chronic pain. I go to a clinic but recently asked my doctor if he would take over my care and switch me from going to the clinic, over to a time released morphine pill I can take once or twice a day. He won't write me Methadone and is reluctant to do it at all because he's never had a patient that he's had to transfer from methadone to a morphine pill before .
Avatar f tn 30 mg of methadone is not a large dose for treating neuropathic pain. Since you say the pain has slowly increased, I do not doubt that you are feeling undermedicated and I'm glad to hear that you are getting a dose adjustment. However, perhaps the increased pain is caused by a change in your underlying condition? I hope that your doctor has reevaluated your fracture.

485259 tn?1519047026 New research for neuropathic pain. This video interview with Dr. Allan Basbaum discusses the possibility of replacing damaged Gabba cells with new functioning ones, thus virtually eliminating neuropathic pain. This video also provides a good explanation of the different types of pain: acute/chronic/inflammatory/ and neuropathic as well as Trigeminal Neuralgia. Neuronal dysfunction is a prerequisite of neuropathic pain, but it is unclear how the degree of structural and functional neuronal impairment is linked to the intensity of neuropathic pain. Avatar f tn Hi martint1955, First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues. I'm sorry that you are having trouble finding a Doctor to prescribe what you think you need for your pain. From everything that I've read on the patch it is the very same medication that Suboxone is.

Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
Avatar f tn It was once heavily marketed to pain cliinics for treatment of neuropathic pain, and is still used for that purpose. But it was also marketed (illegally, according to the FDA) as a mood stabilizer, even though there are no good studies showing it is effective treatment for bipolar disorder. The company that makes the drug was hit with t large fine about ten years ago for taking docs to the Caribbean and giving them lectures and marketing pitches... the NY Times had some big article on it .
Avatar f tn -) There are many options out there for pain relief but you must find the cause of the pain or treatment will fail. So if you took Baclofen thinking it's muscle spasms but it's actually neuropathic pain then you will get no relief. Take Care, Karry.
Avatar m tn Many Heppers experience some neuropathic pain.
Avatar f tn Neurontin (gabapentin) can be an effective treatment for neuropathic pain, but would seem unlikely to have any effect on any other symptoms, such as gray patches, sharpness, or color saturation. As has been repeatedly discussed here, however, it's not something one just starts taking; it is an adjustment process. See the Health Page on treating neuropathic pain.

Avatar f tn For anyone who has ever taken Methadone for chronic pain management...When you first started taking Methadone, how long did it take for it to control your pain? How many days, weeks, etc.? My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take?
