Avatar m tn The surgery required plastic surgery which resulted in nerve pain from my knee to my foot. It follows along the peroneal nerve. I am on gabapentin, Hydromorph Contin and Methadone to control pain. I also am taking acupuncture and trying a desensitization technique by rubbing different kinds of materials along my leg. The pain can be quite severe. Do you have any other suggestions that would take away the pain?
Avatar f tn TN is not a methadone friendly state. My pain management specialist had me on methadone for 12 years after trying other optoids with no success. I regained about 70% of my ability to function and good pain relief. I was able to go back to work after a year in bed. With the controversery over the increase of methadone related deaths my doctor decided to wean me off methadone and put me on pain patches, then morphine, then oxy everything.
Avatar n tn t afford it after a health plan change whch is definitely showing me it worked for the pain. LOL I have pain pump I hope they wll be able to do something in that for te nerve pain.
Avatar f tn Is it a good idea to replace high doses of oxycontin, that you have tolerated for years, no highs, pain relief, but still quite a bit of pain, for methadone, forever? My dack surgeon says the switch will kill me and would have to be done in the hospital over a long period, and even then, he refuses to even entertain the idea, and he has been my back dr. for15 yrs. (I had 2 back surgeries in 1995 abd 1996 and no relief after last surgery, except I could walk again.
Avatar m tn methadone is gd for pain but it doesnt last 24 hrs like they say,if it lasted longer and we didnt get a tolerance it would b gr8 but i didnt like it much.i was on methadone yrs ago and i hav hep c no hep c symptoms then i got on the methadone and i got all these symptoms which i thought was hep c but it wasnt. on tx now but just to let u no how i felt on methadone was really tired most of the time, sweaty, chills, moody, very achey etc especially after u get tolerance to it.
Avatar n tn Many anesthesiologists and doctors/surgeons are unfamiliar with the proper equalanegesic dosage of morphine for patients on methadone maintenance, or using methadone for pain. As a result, they make the mistake of giving you too little morphine when they are using that in place of or in addition to your methadone dose for pain. Sometimes they even think that the methadone you normally take will help address your post-surgical pain. This is in fact NOT the case at all.
1774104 tn?1314215207 I would think that if you are truly addicted versus dependent, than Subutex or methadone may be a good fit for you. My pain management team had discussed using methadone with me for pain management. I have some nerve pain that seems to be very difficult to treat with narcotics. But after doing a lot of research, I decided that methadone wouldn't be the right fit for me. I have seen some articles recently regarding Subutex/Suboxone with regard to pain control.
Avatar m tn I'm on110mgs of methadone a day.I'm getting surgery very soon for my gallbladder. I've been in pain for months now i just want it out.I'm scared i will be treated different from other patents that aren't on methadone by doctors.the thing i am wondering is will my methadone block other pain medications the doctors give me.Ive had other surgery's and i know ill need them.I'm scared they will deny me the proper medications for pain because of my past.
Avatar f tn Is this the affects of discontinuing methadone after taking it for eight years for chronic pain. I took 20-40 mg a day about six hours a part. Tell me what you think is happening. Not to mention I have a closed head injury and take Gapabentin 300mg 3x daily, along with 60 mg Cymbalta. Tell me what you think , ever heard of this happening to anyone- the low heart rate? Does this sound like anxiety? I was also prescribed Oxcycontin but can't afford the co-pay.
Avatar f tn I did a lot of dishes today and went overboard. I fell asleep for a few hours and the pain is quite bad. I am on lidocaine for a cyst on my knee ( a small bump with a bundle of nerves) I wanted it removed, but was told it might open a new can of worms. I mean lidocaine patch. I was on fentanyl patches, ha no way for me. I fell asleep standing up. Not kidding. Hope to hear back. Your plate sure is full!!!!!
Avatar m tn My doctor just put me on 900mg of Gabapentin daily and it seems to help with the nerve pain alot. I ran out of my methadone lastnight and my doctor gave me a 13 count script for methadone and told me to wait until monday to fill my reg. script of 360 monthly. I love methadone for the chronic back pain it's the best thing in the world for chronic lower back pain but once you get on it , it is so hard to get off of it.
Avatar f tn It really depends on the type of pain, but the side effects and potential for abuse are far less with subs, in my opinion. Nerve pain is not really helped by opiates, they just make me high enough to endure it. I know more people who died from methadone than any other drug.
Avatar f tn I was on methadone for pain for 10 years for my back. My doctor passed away. I did not know how addicted I was until my pills ran out and I was dying, litteraly. I had to find a new dr that weined me down to 30mg and since he won't write it anymore cuz its illegal for federal clinics to write scedule 2's I have to go to a methadone clinic and be treated like a herroin addict every day just to feel normal. I was put on neurotin 4 days ago and it seems to make me feel a little better.
Avatar f tn I was previously on a variety of pain medications, oxicodone ms cotin I was then told from clinic I would have to go to a pain center and they would not be able to help me I then found out how addicted I was I went searching for a pain center to no avail and ended up finding a dr that would give methadone and the stuff they give to herion addics I could not believe I was now considered a addict I ended up seeing this dr and he gave me the methadone for pain 60mls a day I was doing fine at first
Avatar f tn I am on 85mg of methadone a day for oxy addiction. I am having constant pain from my teeth because of existing problems. Dentist is looking after me but it will take some time due to money, time, etc. Wht pain med would work for me? I have a pretty high tolerance to opiates.
Avatar m tn I guess I don't understand how people use Methadone for pain management IF they have to use a BT med. Doesn't Methadone block the effects of other narcotics? So how can BT meds work if they are blocked?
Avatar m tn Im glad u are feeling better. My pain dr put me on methadone for 1 month started and 5 mg 3 3x a day and went down by 1 pill a week. Worked great for me now my reg dr wasnt happy with that way and she sent me to a sub dr, she thought I needed something long term. The sub psych didnt agree with my reg dr and told me to stay on the methadone I was doing very well on that, the funny part about the whole thing is the sub dr couldnt understand why I wanted to get off narcotics to begin with.
Avatar f tn For anyone who has ever taken Methadone for chronic pain management...When you first started taking Methadone, how long did it take for it to control your pain? How many days, weeks, etc.? My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take?
Avatar f tn It didn't work at all for me
631581 tn?1224844661 Not for addicts but for those who have USED or are USING methadone for chronic pain. I would really love to talk with more people who are in the same shoes I am in. But then I've had chronic pain since I was 17. I'm 34 now and it seems like it just might be my life. Without methadone I was taking 4 Advil every 8 hours and I've ruined my stomach. So there's another trade off. The fact is there doesn't seem to be an answer.
Avatar f tn Jaqui, methadone is an excellent medication for pain for a variety of reasons, and helped me to manage pain of a long-term spine disorder for 12 years. There is research that links methadone to a particular cardiac problem. The cause is poorly understood, but to minimize risk, my doctor has ordered a 12-lead ekg with my annual physical (when I am using methadone), since i am also in my 60s. So far, I remain without cardiac symptoms.
Avatar f tn Either due to radiation therapy prior to the surgery or to the severing of nerve-endings during the surgery itself, she has suffered from severe nerve pain in that area (rectum) ever since, and has been unable to sit, stand for long or lie on her back. For the last 9 years, she has been a pain patient. Started on OxyContin just prior to the surgery, she was moved to a prescription of 40 mg. of methadone in 2005.
1412606 tn?1282882129 I did have to stop taking ativan (which I took for sleep) and I had to stop taking nortriptyline (for nerve pain). The nortriptyline, especially, can interfere with limb development. My pain is also caused by ruptured discs. I have disc problems from L1-S1 (all 4 levels) and have had 3 surgeries with no luck. I should tell you that acupuncture has really helped me. You do have to go consistently...but you may want to think about it.
1846374 tn?1319012974 I have been going to my primary physician for over 2 years and she has been prescribing methadone for my chronic back and nerve pain. The last time I was there she took a urine test. I had taken percocets that were prescribed by my other doctor before I started. seeing her. It showed up in my urine test and I got a letter saying that I was being discharged from the practice. This was the first time this has happened and I wasn'.t given a chance to explain.
Avatar n tn hi, my husband is on 60mg of methadone (pill form) a day for chronic back pain. He's been on this regimen for 4 years now. If he runs out of his pills before he gets the new script how long will the last dose of methadone stay in his system and how quickly will the "dt's" start? I am asking because the doc had to resched his appt and he might run short and want to be prepared.
