Avatar f tn I forgot to mention that he's been taking Ambien for about as long as he's been on the methadone and getting off of that is another fight for the future. We figure one thing at a time! That's why I wasn't going to order the melatonin.
Avatar n tn some old people i see at work/elderly without addiction problems/ put down 40 mgs a day without wd but do not have an addiction problem methadone is just a narcotic..not a dirty word...used in germany originally for pain until the us picked it up for a detox drug giving it a nasty name...sub was also a pain med called temgesic til the usa picked it up as a detox med/will also be a nasty word soon/...
Avatar f tn For safety focus on the methadone. I assume that is for a chronic pain condition? Methadone can be tricky. If the patient ever passes out and can not be awakened, it might be a methadone overdose and patient needs the antidote. (I always wished I had a life alert alarm that would alert me if someone stopped breathing so I could quickly react and save them.) There are new ways of treating certain types of chronic pain, especially if patient has physically recovered but still feels pain.

Avatar n tn Central nervous system and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking soma and Methadone which cause these effects especially in elderly or debilitated patient. If you are doubtful it is best to consult your doctor about it and take this medication after clarifying your doubts. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!

Avatar f tn When he wouldn't keep up with me for a safe tapering I kept asking for I decided to start caring about myself. He had me at 160mg a day, the last year I took myself down to 120mg then when I really got impatient so with in one week I took myself down to 80 mg for 2 days then 50mg for 2 days and finally 25mg for 2 days. After that I checked into a detox that went kind of smoothly however instead of aftercare I had to come home to care for my elderly mother.
Avatar f tn I was discharged from the hospital at the end of Feb. My Doctor put me on methadone for the pain. The perscription is for one month 8 pills a day. 4 (10 mg) tablets in the morning and 4 (10 mg) tablets in the evening. My concern is addiction. I currently have a vicodin addiction, but since I've been on methadone I don't crave the vicodin and I haven't went through any withdraw symptoms. Can someone give me some insight to what the probability is to me becoming addicted to methadone.?
11360622 tn?1417799519 and OMG I have just described the things my stepchildren are NOW doing for me. (except for the litter box adjustments, yea, pretty much!!) See treat your elderly cat like YOU would want to be treated when you get old and grumpy----- They have been there for you most of your life. Through the good and the bad, now it is time to be there for our beloved kits when they need a little help......and that is LIFE! Best of Luck to you and your lucky Senior Citizen!
Avatar n tn I felt very sorry for this impaired very elderly man but I felt sorrier for the ppl that had to meet him on the road. Had he walked out of a bar in that condition he would have been stopped. I was aghast that they didn't pull his liscense until he could prove he could drive. The counter person explained that she could do nothing to stop him from driving until his liscense expired and he was unable to pass an eye test or in that situation if his doctor would not agree to his driving.
Avatar f tn Sub only makes sense for you as a step down (temporary) from methadone. Methadone as you know is very hard to get off of and even tougher for 18 years but it can be done. It's makes no sense to switch to sub to stay on sub from meth because meth is a better maintenence drug. It makes a lot of sense to use sub for 6-8 weeks as a step down from meth. There are outpatient clinics that specialize in this for methadone patients and give you meds for when you get off the sub.
Avatar f tn Good for you go girl. thats great, what was your withdrawls like in the beginning ? what were you feeling?
Avatar f tn Sorry, I forgot to ask about methadone for bipolar...I read that methadone can help with this. I'm desparate to help my husband and keep me safe..I don't want to have to file charges against him for threatening me.
Avatar n tn HI you can get methadose from a doctor and pick it up at a pharmacy it is methadone in pill form methadone is usually liquid and is dispensed at clinics you have to go every day to get it most doctors cannot prescribe methadone hence why so many go to the clinics this is nasty stuff I was on it 6 1/2 yrs I would run the other way if someone ever offered to me again it is not a way to get around withdrawals methadone withdrawals are some of the worst you can experence your best off to detox wha
939983 tn?1262528060 5 mg of hydrocodone is equivalent to about 15 mg of methadone. But this is for single dose not for long term pain management treatment. Most physicians beleive in the good practice to start low, go slow. Remember that methadone builds up in your system. It is stored in your body tissues. So it may take days before the full effectiveness of methadone is realized. Methadone levels in the blood will continue to increase for five days from the initial dose.
Avatar f tn For anyone who has ever taken Methadone for chronic pain management...When you first started taking Methadone, how long did it take for it to control your pain? How many days, weeks, etc.? My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take?
Avatar f tn I have been on the methadone for 14 months I am ready to be off it all for sure I will say its been quite the ride with these pain meds I never thought it possible the I would be addicted to anything and even when I was doing 10ml 6x a day or actually two tens every 4hours and 30 milligrams of the morphine 3x a day I was pretty medicated and will say I was starting to abuse them by chewing and taking more than I was supposed to I always told my Dr.
Avatar f tn Boith drugs have a long half life so a long wd period, both drugs are narcotics...sub being the stronger of the two drugs mg for mg. Methadone is approved for pain relief in the US, sub is not. Main thing is she gets clean...neither drug is a miracle worker so if someone tells u so, dont listen.
Avatar f tn My sister has been on methadone for over 6 years now. She was busting scripts for percocets several times a day until she got busted. She was taking at least 40 per day. Instead of jail she went into treatment. She still is on a very high dose of methadone, the last time I asked she was at 60mg. There are so many more issues with her treatment I have questions about. How long is methadone maintenance? It appears to me she has replaced her old habit with a legal habit.. I really worry about her.
Avatar f tn I lost my brother to suicide in 2001 and it feels like he died just recently. It is still overwhelming for me and I feel like a part of me died with him. Many days I wish he had taken me with him. I also feel extremely guilty for grieving so long when I have family still living. But I can't help it. I loved my brother like we were twins. His suicide was/ is the most devastating event of my life. I have been in therapy for years and still don't know how to overcome this loss.
