939983 tn?1262528060 I had been on the oxycodone for five and a half years, and within two days of taking 10mg methadone every four hours and using the oxycodone 15mg now every four hours for breakthrough pain, the methadone is working SO well that I don't even have to take the oxycodone every four hours, and when I do, half a tablet (as opposed to two tablets, which is the dose) is enough to control the breakthrough pain. I never would have believed it, but it is AMAZING!
Avatar f tn For anyone who has ever taken Methadone for chronic pain management...When you first started taking Methadone, how long did it take for it to control your pain? How many days, weeks, etc.? My best friend was started on Methadone to manage completely debilitating chronic pain that is the result of multiple, major, back-to-back abdominal surgeries. Tonight marks the fourth full day of her being on Methadone, and she's really not feeling any better. How long can it take?
631581 tn?1224844661 Not for addicts but for those who have USED or are USING methadone for chronic pain. I would really love to talk with more people who are in the same shoes I am in. But then I've had chronic pain since I was 17. I'm 34 now and it seems like it just might be my life. Without methadone I was taking 4 Advil every 8 hours and I've ruined my stomach. So there's another trade off. The fact is there doesn't seem to be an answer.
Avatar f tn I thought it had stopped working, so back in oct of 2016 pain mgmt dr put me on methadone 10mg tablets total of 6 at 3 pills twice daily. With breakthrough of 3 percocets. Before that in 2008 my breakthrough was norco. Well, I was having horrible bones and muscle deep aches from the methadone so this past Monday was put back on my opana 20mg 2x daily with my breakthrough of 4 Percocet a day.
Avatar n tn Different meds work differently for different people. When I first started pain management I had been on Vicodn 7.5, four a day, but it always ended up that I was needing double that, so essentially I was taking the same thing as you. The pain management doctor that I started with put me on methadone, 2mg, three times a day. It worked wonderfully!
Avatar f tn I wonder if the dose was too low for someone who is as opiate tolerant as I am? He also says I can take Norco for breakthrough pain. I was asking for Fentanyl patches, but he said Methadone works better for nerve pains, which is associated with fibromygalia. Any inputs? How does this medication affect you guys? Are you able to drive and care for your children/work? Thanks in advance!
1708849 tn?1308063972 I take oxycodone and tylenol 3 w/ codeine for pain but you people with chronic pain like me need to be careful with addiction. So methadone is not a cure for RSD/CRPS, fibromyalgia period.
Avatar n tn Your problem could also be also that the methadone is blocking the breakthrough pain med. I have been on methadone for that reason. (Because I have severe pain but was also addicted to pain meds, opiates.) The methadone blocks all opiates so it's a waste of my time and money to even try any longer. You should do a little research on methadone. I'm surprised your doctor gave you an opiate breakthrough pain med while on methadone.
Avatar f tn I AM CURRENTLY ON METHADONE FOR LONG TERM PAIN RELIEF AND ROXICODONE FOR BREAKTHROUGH PAIN. I WAS WONDERING WHICH ONE WOULD BE BETTER TO SWITCH TO INSTEAD OF BEING ON THE METHADONE CAUSE I ALSO TAKE XANAX AND ITS A RISK FOR RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS COMBINING THE TWO...ANY SUGGESTIONS OF WHICH IS BETTER TO TAKE THE PLACE OF METHADONE?
1087566 tn?1282448730 I was on methadone for many years too control my pain. Methadone when using it every day does block other meds from working. The the only medication that works with methadone for break through is morphine. Ask your Dr. to give you morphine instead of oxycodone. This will help with your pain.
6726276 tn?1421126668 I was prescribed methadone 10mg twice a day with breakthrough meds of norcos 3 times a day. Im off the methadone but struggling terribly with withdrawl issues every 4 to 6 hours. Id be interested in a buddy to just compare notes..health issues..etc.
Avatar f tn ive had implanted morphine pumps with oxys for breakthrough pain. I recently was on 120 mgs of oxys a day and 4 mgs of diludids 4 times a day my pain Dr just went.
Avatar m tn Kind of like Methadone (long acting pain reliever) and Percocet or Norco ( examples of short acting pain reliever commonly used for breakthrough pain). I don’t know much about Belbuca, but I believe it is similar to Methadone in the sense that it’s a long acting pain reliever and blocks euphoric properties other opiate have. It doesn’t change their effectiveness for pain. If Belbuca is expensive, you could ask your doctor if you can be switched to something more affordable like Methadone.
Avatar m tn I have been on Methadone and Roxicodone for breakthrough pain for 8 years. Any Suggestions would be helpful.
Avatar m tn t work and I found it to be fine as a pain reliever, as long as I had some meds for the breakthrough pain. If anyone asked what I was taking whom I didn't feel comfortable sharing with (nosey and unsupportive family members), I told them I took morphine. Although doctors don't always do what we consider to be reasonable. Someone here posted a really great post about what meds are in the same family and perhaps you can find one in the methadone family.
4295054 tn?1352695387 Let’s not split hares you’ll become sick if you don’t take opiates if you’ve been taking them regularly. I use to take methadone for chronic spine pain. I also smoked weed for the pain and just to feel better. So my opinion is based on my experience with opiates spanning over 20 years taking as prescribed. I don’t mean to be harsh but taking opiates and smoking weed is like the exact opposite of being in recovery. What program are you being sponsored in lol.
168732 tn?1311712079 I myself am on 10mg methadone 2xday. and dilauid for breakthrough(4mg). I take the methadone in the morning and at bed time. I take the others at lunch and dinner.( I am bad abot not taking my dilauid though I trying to get better. I had my doctor take me off the methadone after a year, because I thought I would be okay without it. I was taken off slowly. Now my pain is horrable, I am in the hospital now even. He put me back on it.
Avatar f tn t having to raise the dose to meet th epain need of their patient. And also methadone has shown to be a good pain med used for long term chronic pain relief becauuse of the above reason (and it's much cheaper). I do have to say you were on a heavy dose of oxy if i understand correctly..20mg 1 in the am, 2 in the afternoon and 2 in the evening.
Avatar f tn Thank you all! I have tried Fentanyl maybe 5 yrs. ago...it didn't seem to work...could have been too modest a dosage by the physician...I mean, how do you know...but I think spitfire was the best answer...I've been on methadone/morphine mix, the latter for breakthrough pain, so because of pain seeming worse, the doc incr. methadone by 20mg/day, and I start feeling just like spitfire described opana...don't need that, although doc offered it.
Avatar n tn Methadone doesn't really "block" anything. It doesn't have a eupohria (that I've ever experienced). What I guess it does to help heroin addicts is stops the withdrawls and since they are taking an opiate already, they don't get "high" off the heroin because they've already got something in their system. (If that makes sense) There's a lot of info out there about it.
Avatar f tn Whatever the doctors plan for you, you have to follow or my husband could have some reprocussions from his chain of command, So this is the reason my husband and I are secretly detoxing off my pain meds. I have been on Ms Contin since June of 2007 and for breakthrough pain pain I am giving Oxycodone immediate release 5 mg. 3 a day. I have recently been switched to Methadone 10 mg. 5 times a day and the oxycodone for breakthrough pain.
Avatar m tn The pain Doctor he sees gives him roxycontin along with methadone for his pain .I see him still suffering and am confused as to why the combination because all i have read say the methadone will block the effect of the roxycontin .I have told him to ask his doc.about the choices but he has not ,does this seem an unusual pair of meds to anyone but me ? any feed back will be appreciated , i just do not understand this combination of drugs .thanks ....
Avatar m tn so he oncologist gave him a subscription for methadone to control the pain more evenly over the day along with a script for Ultram for breakthrough pain. my husband was told to take 10mg methadone 3x a day along with the 160mg of oxy for the first three days until the methadone started working and then to taper off the oxy and onto the ultram. So the questions are: is taking this much narcotics safe?
Avatar m tn And then worked my way up to 4- 80 mg OxyContin with 8 Percocet for breakthrough pain.. Now I am on methadone as it is much less of a roller coaster than oxy/perc. I ran out Of methadone yesterday, and have no refills. Apparently my dr at the pain clinic is on vacation until Thursday and nobody at the clinic can help me!! I'm 24 now and needless to say have had my fair share of withdrawal. Also, I am due for another surgery in a month and am still in excruciating pain.
Avatar n tn s allowing me to use the hydrocodone for breakthrough pain. I used it for several years prior to my cancer diagnosis for pain mangement of my thoracic outlet syndrome and did not have any problems with addiction. I only used it once or twice a day, broke a 5/500 in half whenever the pain got hard to handle. Hopefully that will work since the hydros don't have all of the potential side effects of the Ultram. Unfortunately, I have severe reflux disease so I can't take the NSAIDS.
653169 tn?1303446369 I still don't like the methadone. I'm just really tired and feel icky and still in pain. I don't think I want to give the methadone a full 2 weeks and then stop and risk withdrawals for something that isn't helping the pain. Only the oxycodone for breakthrough is helping the pain, but I'm gonna run out too soon cuz the methadones isn't working at all. He wanted me to give it the two weeks but I just don't feel good about that.
