On the addiction board everybody is screaming no methadone, but is it a good option for me? I mean the user it for addicts and people with chronic pain and I'm both so?

There are no free clinics and I know a little about that in fl. It always costs there except for maybe VA clinics for vets. I had the same problem once in fl. many years ago. Sometimes you have to just go with what's delt , which may mean no $ no more methadone and detox. It tough but it can be done with conviction, faith and some meds. Most addicts also freak and and get suicidal when they know they have to go through it.

, she started me out on 5mg of methadone every day for 5 days then 2 a day for 5 days, ultimately I got to like 10mg 3x a day. Methadone has an extremely long half life and therefore stays in your system much longer, subsequently, it take longer to kick in as well, (Im sure you all know anything fast in, is fast out) so I hope you have as much positive result as did I, almost 4 years ago now.

Yes! I have been on methadone fo pain control. It's a common misconception that it is only for recovering heroin addicts. I also do know that it is given for long-term pain, and NOT pain that should go away after a surgical procedure. Drugs like percocet, vicoden , or oxycodone are given for post-surgical type pain. Methadone is a chronic pain medication, as well as treatment for opiate addiction.

Methadone maintenance therapy has addicts trade their heroin use for safe doses of methadone. Doses that will keep the pains of withdrawal well away, but will not serve to intoxicate and will allow the user to function normally in society.

Many recommend some form of aftercare be realize that what works for one may not work for another. For many, this forum is the only form of aftercare they use. I think you should stick around. I'd be very surprised if you don't enjoy reading and posting here. Best of luck.

We addicts are always looking for drug solutions for our drug problem. 100 years ago it was heroin for morphine. In the 60's it was methadone for heroin. Now it's sub for methadone. Next we will have a drug to get off sub or de we already have it.?

my GP put me on zopiclone almost two weeks ago after involuntary methadone withdrawal (75mg to zero in 8 weeks). It does get me to sleep but am now concerned with the possible addictiveness of it. Am struggling horribly with withdrawal for the 1st time in 46yrs & been on methadone 18 years & used opiates the previous 7 years. Opiates addicts since 17. if anyone can help me I'd be so grateful.

My partner is on 50mls of methadone a day. We have been trying for a baby for 6 months with no success. could this by due to his methadone? does anyone know what affect methadone has on sperm?

BUT i do not want to get addicted to methadone....is it possible to use methadone for a short time to ease withdrawls without becoming a methadone addict? I do not want to be on methadone for the rest of my life..

Not for addicts but for those who have USED or are USING methadone for chronic pain. I would really love to talk with more people who are in the same shoes I am in. But then I've had chronic pain since I was 17. I'm 34 now and it seems like it just might be my life. Without methadone I was taking 4 Advil every 8 hours and I've ruined my stomach. So there's another trade off. The fact is there doesn't seem to be an answer.

where methadone is like $15 dollars a month. I liked methadone alot for pain management very little withdrawl symptoms but I ended up with a fatal heart arrythmia because of the methadone. I would slip into PVC's premature ventricular contractions which can lead to ventricular fibbrilation which leads to death!! so I had to stop cold turkey with other narcotics but the withdrawl is still there! be very careful! taper your methadone slowly if you can!

Well methadone is usually used for addicts to come of other opiates, and is sometimes used for pain. Tramadol is a much weaker opiod antagonst, but can potentiate the effects of methadone im sure (so i would be careful, just follow your doctord orders). I have never taken both of these drugs at once.

Then my new doctor weined me off the methadone and loratabs and the xanax completely and now I have to go to a methadone clinic with herroin addicts just to get a methadone fix of 120mg of liquid methadone. The liquid methadone has no analgesic effects, it only makes the withdrawls go away. I want off the methadone completely and I don't know what to do. I feel so sick when I don't have the methadone. It's so embarrasing going to a methadone clinic for pain management.

I am stopping methadone but i also have a rx at the pharmacy for norco....should i fill it or let it be? I have horrible pms and will need something for it when it hits! Is ambien alright to take to sleep also?

I too went from hydo/oxys to Methadone for pain. My Methadone and Benzo were prescribed by my regular Dr.. After I had my surgery, there was no more reason to have the Dones. We did a small taper and that is when I would go out on the streets and bye Adderral. I would take the Add and Dones and snort them together. It was like my old Crank days back in the 70-80s. I did this to make my Dones stretch out further. Went c/t back in 2012 and it was one of the worse w/ds I have ever experienced.

With methadone, most people have to go to a clinic, some can find a doctor(addiction specialist) to prescribe it for detox purposes as I did. I have used methadone for many years, I also had a bad oxy addiction, cocaine habit, weed smoker, just about everything I could get my hands on. I luckily always stayed away from crystal meth and H, its reaked havoc in and around where I live.

I have a 12 step forum and even though the only requirement is a desire to stop using drugs, we do not condone or celebrate clean and sober time with people still using Methadone. As addicts we know a little about something. And what works for us may not work for you, but I want to make it clear that, there is no 12 steps for people still using. Methadone Anonymous is not affiliated with A.A. or any official 12 step program of recovery.

I"ve been an off and on again abuser of prescription pain pills for about 15 years now. Back in 2007 I went to the methadone clinic to get off of them. BIG MISTAKE after four years of methadone I came off of it. That was a bad experience. Since the dt's were so bad from the methadone I decided to try and take a pain pill here and there to ease the withdrawals. Now i'm back up to 4 a day. I'm considering going to get an antidepressant......any views on that????????

in one word methadone SU##S ive been on it for 6 1/2 yrs and hove been tapering off it for 8 1/2 mo after being on it I would never recommend it to anyone other then a heroin addict and at that I would only recommend a quick taper.....

Standard dosing with methadone indicates a 30-40 mg dose to start with....for opiate addicts some take the dose to over 120mg for maintanance............those are daily doses..not 3x a day.....

I think they really should just use the methadone for heoine addicts. What I have read is that heroine is really hard to get off of so the methadone is a good tool to help get off of that but I am not sure if it is good for helping us pain killer addicts.
