1233941 tn?1267735211 s why many addicts, say they wish they would have never started on methadone or long term sub for vicodin addiction. The exception is, when someone is taking so many pills and has tried and failed a few times before to quit. These treatments (long term sub & methadone), should be reserved for the most desperate cases with multiple treatment failure.
Avatar m tn well yes I do agree that it is trading one addiction for another, methadone or suboxone are much healthier for you as well as it being monitored by your doctor or a clinic. it is possible to quit an opiate addiction without things like methadone or suboxone but it is difficult and has a high failure rate. some people can do it and only do it once and stay clean for the rest of their lives while others like myself need the help of these medications to fully kick the habit.
Avatar n tn I never had any opiate cravings while on the methadone but I felt I had traded one addiction for another. At times it really controlled me b/c I felt trapped to stay in town b/c of having to go to the clinic and dose every morning. Not to mention it was embarassing& I s was still spending money on the addiction(methadone). I felt great (the best ever) mentally on the methadone maybe b/c I am wired way differently, I suffer from bipolar disorder and PTSD.
Avatar f tn s normal for me. I am just looking for some withdraw stories for people who dosed down to 1mg from a clinic. Just wondering what to expect, if its going to be full blown bed ridden withdraws or if I'm just gonna be crabby and tired. I have a small son, so I need to be prepared, I am going to talk to my counselor this week about it to get some info, but looking for first hand stories. Thinking about taking a week vacation from work, but I want to take it at the right time.
Avatar n tn I think its great that you are on an addiction recovery forum looking for answers concerning your son and his unfortunate addiction. However i have to say first that there is absolutely no connection between a responsibly dosed (even an irresponsibly dosed) methadone patient and compromised liver function. I dont know why your son has told you this since it simply isn't true.
Avatar f tn The problem lies with being on it for addiction AND pain control. Methadone maintenance for addiction is used with the intentions of eventually, and gradually weaning you off of it someday. Methadone for pain control is used without the need to "taper off" of it someday. I don't think it's an opiate blocker at all, as I take it when my body gets used to used taking either oxycontin, morphine, or fentanyl (my tolerance to the drug increases).
Avatar f tn My sister has been on methadone for over 6 years now. She was busting scripts for percocets several times a day until she got busted. She was taking at least 40 per day. Instead of jail she went into treatment. She still is on a very high dose of methadone, the last time I asked she was at 60mg. There are so many more issues with her treatment I have questions about. How long is methadone maintenance? It appears to me she has replaced her old habit with a legal habit.. I really worry about her.
Avatar n tn hi, my husband is on 60mg of methadone (pill form) a day for chronic back pain. He's been on this regimen for 4 years now. If he runs out of his pills before he gets the new script how long will the last dose of methadone stay in his system and how quickly will the "dt's" start? I am asking because the doc had to resched his appt and he might run short and want to be prepared.
Avatar f tn Hi there- are you asking for dosing information? We can't offer dosing information here but you can Google "COWS Scale" and that might help you.
Avatar n tn There has been 4 occassions now that my urine tests come back positive for methadone but no methadone metabolite. This has occurred even when I was getting dosed daily at the clinic. The clinic took all my take homes because they said if I was taking my methadone the metabolite would show up. I have never in the 6yrs in the clinic, ever missed a single dose. How is this possible? Please help me because I deserve my take homes.
Avatar f tn but it is the absolute worst drug to kick, i would stop now, methadone addiction is far worse than any other addiction, and if you are on it for too long, you may not be able to get off for quite a while, i know people who are on it for life because the WD's are just too bad...i was on it for a year, low dose and couldnt do it...please stop now if you able to...it may not be too late at this point....
Avatar f tn BUT SHE HAS TO WANT TO STOP USING HEROIN FOR ANYTHING TO WORK. Methadone has helped me from stopping my old addiction behaviors and I have a great desire to live a life without drugs. And I have read that their is a greater chance of relapse if we do not stay on methadone a full year and then we can slowly taper down till we are free from the methadone. Some will disagree with the time of a year being on MMT, that is what I read on a methadone site.
Avatar f tn i have to disagree with the statement that methadone does nothing for addiction...if used properly for short period of time it does its job...its the clinics that have it wrong with the extra high doses for extended length of time.
Avatar f tn Usually methadone is taken once daily when its used for replacement therapy, but it makes no sense to go from a 280mg/weekly dose to 455mg/weekly dose. Alot of the times the clinics that Ive seen and heard of really dont have the persons best interest in mind. Is there another clinic he could go to? Maybe try and find a doctor/addiction specialist that is willing to help. Whatever happens there is absolutely no reason to accept there recommendations to up the dose.
Avatar m tn my husband has been clean for 14 months after a 14 yr. addiction to pills and methadone. get yourself into some support groups and medhelp will definitely help with the w/d's and suggestion for aftercare. you say this time 30 months you have been on meth.. then your addiction has been an ongoing problem for you. suggestion is to get clean from all substances. it can be done. break the chains of addiction and bondage. there is a wonderful life waiting for you.
Avatar f tn However, the pain-relieving effects are shorter than the pharmacological half-life, so that dosing for pain control usually requires multiple doses per day. Depending on its form, Methadone can also be known as Dimepheptanol. As with heroin and all other opiates, methadone tolerance and methadone dependence usually develop with repeated doses.
Avatar f tn This is really the wrong forum for this, but let me offer advice as a person who has used opiate analgesics for a long time, and has experience with methadone. Methadone is an effective pain medication, but is also used to treat opiate addiction. It has a very long half-life, which means that it stays in your body for a long time -- anywhere from 48-100 hours after dosing. This is one reason it is so difficult to withdraw from methadone.
Avatar f tn Are you under medical supervision for your methadone? Mixing that much Gravol with the methadone is very dangerous. Please talk to a doctor or your pharmacist about it...There is no shame in this. Gnarly is very knowledgeable about methadone and has helped many members in their recovery process. You are supported here...
Avatar n tn I found this, whic seems to be relevant: "Be very careful, the official "lethal dose" for methadone is 25mg for a non-tolerant adult. This means as little as 25mg of methadone has been known to kill adults with no tolerance to opiates. This is a surprisingly low lethal dosage for many people, but I assure you it is true. Methadone has a very long half-life, unlike heroin, which is a short-acting opiate.
Avatar m tn I would say go to see your doctor, and request a referral to your local drug agency, from there you should be able to get back to suboxtone and ask for a higher dosage. The more you take methadone the more you are going to depend on it and the harder it is to come off it. Seek counseling aswell.
Avatar n tn tapering down is hard but can be done. Someone will come along that knows more about methadone then I do, What are you taking the methadone for? How long have you been on it?
3217939 tn?1345929459 I was using roxy cottons for a while then quit b/c I started going to the methadone clinic...I am on 70 mgs. I have been going and on methadone for 3 yrs come jan.19,2013 I am soooooo ready to taper off!!! CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME THE EASIEST WAY TO GET OFF OF METHADONE?!?
Avatar f tn t started it yet because I am unsure of the interaction. Some say it causes withdrawal for the methadone and some say it increases methadone, talk about confusing!! Please tell me your experience or opinion.
477746 tn?1254784547 I see post after post of people talking about methadone addiction and withdrawal. I'm getting the impression that methadone is being made available as a 'band-aid' for opioid addiction that often just ends up making things worse. Is this a fair impression to get? Anyone credit methadone for helping them break an addiction? As I understand it, methadone (at prescribed doses) does not get one high.
