Methadone dosage for addiction

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone dosage for addiction

methadose

Avatar n tn I found this, whic seems to be relevant: "Be very careful, the official "lethal dose" for methadone is 25mg for a non-tolerant adult. This means as little as 25mg of methadone has been known to kill adults with no tolerance to opiates. This is a surprisingly low lethal dosage for many people, but I assure you it is true. Methadone has a very long half-life, unlike heroin, which is a short-acting opiate.
Avatar m tn I would say go to see your doctor, and request a referral to your local drug agency, from there you should be able to get back to suboxtone and ask for a higher dosage. The more you take methadone the more you are going to depend on it and the harder it is to come off it. Seek counseling aswell.
Avatar f tn I want help with my addiction to painkillers. I have been abusing them for 30 years. I have doctor shopped, got in trouble for writing prescriptions, now I'm buying them off the street ( and it leave me broke). I am sick of it; the withdrawals are horrible. I have tried one methadone tablet and found how much help it gave me. It lasted for two days. I want off this stuff; but I need a doctor that will prescribe methadone and that will monitor my improvement or failure.
Avatar m tn Are you saying you took 60 mgs of oxy for 5 days only then switched too methadone for 5 days only. No prior addiction or addiction history. This does not make complete sense, but if I go by what I hear you saying 60mg for 5 days and then 20mg of methadone for 5 days then Maybe not. Need background. Why did you end up taking them? To understand enough to say one way or another. At 10 days you are on your way to addiction. Things vary person to person etc.
1233941 tn?1267735211 s why many addicts, say they wish they would have never started on methadone or long term sub for vicodin addiction. The exception is, when someone is taking so many pills and has tried and failed a few times before to quit. These treatments (long term sub & methadone), should be reserved for the most desperate cases with multiple treatment failure.
Avatar m tn 190mgs of methadone is a pretty hefty dose.I'm not sure you can blame the methadone for why he is 'messed up' all the time though, given he is abusing all the other drugs you mentioned.I will tell you that mixing methadone with other drugs you are abusing, especially benzos [the xanax] can be a fatal mixture and THAT could kill him. It's really not possible for us to tell you what his dose should be.
1800740 tn?1324237171 Can you tell me what milligram dosage suboxone he will prescribe for a 30 mg per day methadone user. Suboxone is very expensive & if I need more than 8mg per day I can't afford it in addition to the cost of the dr. visits.
Avatar m tn well yes I do agree that it is trading one addiction for another, methadone or suboxone are much healthier for you as well as it being monitored by your doctor or a clinic. it is possible to quit an opiate addiction without things like methadone or suboxone but it is difficult and has a high failure rate. some people can do it and only do it once and stay clean for the rest of their lives while others like myself need the help of these medications to fully kick the habit.
Avatar f tn re interested in a methadone maintenance program for recovery from addiction to heroin or other opiates, there are people here who could probably advise you about that.
Avatar m tn No, you shouldn't be vomiting, and if you are you're taking too much IMO. He should have inducted you incrementally in his office and taken your vitals while they watched how you did. If he just turned you loose and let you dose yourself, I'd look for another doctor, if it was me.

Avatar f tn Geesha, what about cyclobenzapine? And what does methadone have to do with tramadol? Methadone treats addiction problems. I'm on bupenerophine, which is kind of like methadone but supposed to be better.
Avatar f tn t ween me of they put me on methadone which is just as addicting. So I just stoped on my own which irs a big risk for u and baby.
Avatar m tn The reason will make a difference in my response to you. If it is for pain what are your plans for pain control once off the methadone. Methadone can produce one of the more difficult w/d processes due to it's long half life. It's encouraging that you have cut down to your current dosage. Unfortunately there is no good way to avoid the w/d symptoms completely. Your physician should be able to prescribe medications other than Zaboxin that will help you with the withdrawal process.
1436330 tn?1284666036 but you know how addicts are about following directions but hey if it works the more power to you were always looking for ways to help thanks for clarifying that for me....

Avatar f tn but it is the absolute worst drug to kick, i would stop now, methadone addiction is far worse than any other addiction, and if you are on it for too long, you may not be able to get off for quite a while, i know people who are on it for life because the WD's are just too bad...i was on it for a year, low dose and couldnt do it...please stop now if you able to...it may not be too late at this point....
1003776 tn?1360197582 t make it a habit to discourage any reasonable treatment plan, but for your addiction, methadone would be a mistake. You can be through withdrawals in a couple of weeks at most. Methadone is a maintenance drug meant to be taken for an extended period. Withdrawals from Methadone can be moderate-severe for months.
Avatar f tn BUT SHE HAS TO WANT TO STOP USING HEROIN FOR ANYTHING TO WORK. Methadone has helped me from stopping my old addiction behaviors and I have a great desire to live a life without drugs. And I have read that their is a greater chance of relapse if we do not stay on methadone a full year and then we can slowly taper down till we are free from the methadone. Some will disagree with the time of a year being on MMT, that is what I read on a methadone site.
Avatar n tn i couldnt exactly tell if it was methadone youare on for pain or other painkillers, but assuming its methadone you are on for pain its definitely going to be hard to get off of, it is a very effective pain killer and long alsting, and prduces less of a rush or euphoria than heroin and toehr strong opiates, but it is very addicting and can be lethal.- i am on it for a bad addiction to heroin and oxycontin(snorted) and its a great treatment option for me, but its def. addicting too.
Avatar f tn Are you under medical supervision for your methadone? Mixing that much Gravol with the methadone is very dangerous. Please talk to a doctor or your pharmacist about it...There is no shame in this. Gnarly is very knowledgeable about methadone and has helped many members in their recovery process. You are supported here...
Avatar f tn A doctor must hold special licensing to prescribe methadone for opiate addiction, and have the appropriate opiate-substitution training to do so. Therefore, you may not always get the current or correct advice from a general physician or OB-GYN. Your methadone clinic can't steer you to an OB-GYN with the correct addiction training.
1502361 tn?1290540230 If you still want to continue getting high i strongly reccomend you discontinue with the methadone. Methadone is notorious for making it difficult to get any kick off of illicit narcs and the buzz from methadone is nowhere near as pleasant. Good luck on your journey. when you are ready to consider stopping the methadone, please feel free to PM me anytime and i will support you as best i can. Kind regards Jeremy.
Avatar n tn tapering down is hard but can be done. Someone will come along that knows more about methadone then I do, What are you taking the methadone for? How long have you been on it?
