Hi,the only tell tale signs is when he does his urin-test at the methadone clinic.diazepines are dangerous when mixed with methadone,as a person can develope respiratory problems and go-under.If you have concerns ask to accompany him to the clinic and sit in on the results of his urine-test. They test a patients urine every time the dr. issues a neww RX.If he agree that theres no problem with confidentiality the dr. will advise you on his progress.

I’ve been prescribed 10mg methadone x2 daily and 2weeks ago my dr changed it to 10mg OxyContin x2 daily. I now have double vision and am listless and cold. I have several methadone left from my old prescription. Would I be able to change and take the methadone instead of the OxyContin until I can talk to my dr on Monday. I was told the change was due to something from my blood work showing up wrong?
i couldnt exactly tell if it was methadone youare on for pain or other painkillers, but assuming its methadone you are on for pain its definitely going to be hard to get off of, it is a very effective pain killer and long alsting, and prduces less of a rush or euphoria than heroin and toehr strong opiates, but it is very addicting and can be lethal.- i am on it for a bad addiction to heroin and oxycontin(snorted) and its a great treatment option for me, but its def. addicting too.
He told me to go home and research methadone for chronic pain and if I want to go back tommorow and he will start me on methadone. I am torn on what to do. On one hand I understand where he is coming from as far as the pain goes but on the other hand I have heard so many horror stories about methadone.
Can anyone suggest anything? Sub doctors are hard to come by where I live (canada) and I just don't know what to do anymore. Please help.
Are you going to a doctor or a clinic to get the methadone and are you taking the methadone to try and quit the oxys?How long have you been taking the methadone? Please be well informed about what you're getting yourself into with the methadone..Gather as much info as possible from this site...I learned first hand you can't always believe what the doctors and clinics tell you about it.I was on methadone for over a year.I went cold turkey off of 25 mgs 9 months ago.
When Purdue Pharma reformulated the pill and renamed it Oxycontin OP, that extended the patent on Oxycontin. Purdue Pharma won the lawsuit and all the generic manufacturers that were producing Oxycontin had to exit the market. A similar scenario happened with Opana ER. Endo Pharmaceuticals reformulated Opana ER so that it couldn't be crushed and snorted. When they did that, it extended their patent for at least another 10 years.
Okay, So to sum this up quickly I was on oxycontin (up to 200-400mg a day) for 3 years, and I went on methadone. My Babys dad was also doin this with me...anyways he got clean and wanted me off the methadone, so I stopped it Cold turky, but was too ***** to go thru that ****, and started using pills again ( I even got him back into and he was like 6 weeks clean....*sigh*) anyways, I DONT WANT TO go thru the hell I KNOW im facing.
If anybody has any advice I could really use it, Im a good person who in my spare time takes care of my resently widowed brother and his two children, ages 3 and 6. I also work full time and Im not looking to get high. I just need to ween off or find out info on Suboxone or Methadone and how to even get perscribed something like that. Thank you for your time.
Hey everyone, Im on methadone now about 4 years and i have been feeling depressed and taking panic attacks as of late. My grandmother knows a drug called venlafaxine but dont know what it could do if im on methadone. I have seen other posts where people were on both drugs and said it worked great. I was on it for over 8 months and it kept me clean from a nasty habit with snorting heroin and oxycontin for over two years, along wtih benzos(xanax, valium,klonopin) and sleeping pils(ambien, lunesta). I had a huge tolerance for opiate and once I was in bad withdrawals about two days they amde me wait, I was given my first dose of suboxone, They started at 4 mgs and it took away my withdrawals isntantly and gave me a warm buzz that lasted a really long time.
My husband got addicted to pain medication and is now on clinical methadone and it has changed his life.
ve seen of fentanyl detox and my own year long, slow methadone recovery, I think fentanyl and methadone are only different in dosage. The full synthetic nature and side effects of both methadone and fentanyl make them very close tie for the worst detox ever. As I vomit and shat myself in my yard from methadone detox, I remember wishing I was a heroin or any other kind of addict. Anyway, mute point, but wanted to share.

going on methadone or suboxone does not make you a weak person, just making the choice to get help and quit is a hard decision to make, hell just admitting that you have a problem makes you stronger, when done right and under the supervision of a doctor and working the program to get clean methadone and suboxone can and have been a lifesaver. don't let peoples negative judgments affect your decision to at least check it out.
I have numbness to both feet and some in lower legs now. I am prescribed Oxycontin 40 twice a day and Panadeine forte BT and Oxycodone 20mgs 3rd hourly. I have worsening pain to the area of surgery and now can only find pain relief laying down. If I go walking or standing for too long the pain is unbearable. Am I on a very high pain relief regime?
Yes, Oxycontin is a very good and effective pain reliever and I also think Methadone is as well. The difference between the two is one will give you the euphoric effect and the other does not. I feel that the Methadone is probably a better drug for relieving pain but that's my opinion. I do know that the Methadone is a natural drug rather than the Oxy that is synthetic.
Like Nick said, Be honest and don't ask the Doctor for a specific drug. Let him do the prescribing.
I was I'n pain management forum / discussion. "Methadone instead of Oxycontin".. I posted a comment and saw the confirmation, however the comment did not appear.. The comments ask for me to enter text In a "To" box o put "Methadone instead of Oxycontin" the to" box.. Any ideas ? I really prefer not to have that floating out on ether....
