I'm new to this forum but I need help and advice Please Please Please.
I have been taking methadone and oc's since 2003. They are prescribed by my pain Mgmt doc. But I am ready to stop taking them ... I'm tired of my life being controlled by meds. My dosages are 30mg methadone 4 times a day and 80mg oc 3 times a day. Yes its alot I know. I’ve been prescribed 10mg methadone x2 daily and 2weeks ago my dr changed it to 10mg OxyContin x2 daily. I now have double vision and am listless and cold. I have several methadone left from my old prescription. Would I be able to change and take the methadone instead of the OxyContin until I can talk to my dr on Monday. I was told the change was due to something from my blood work showing up wrong?
He told me to go home and research methadone for chronic pain and if I want to go back tommorow and he will start me on methadone. I am torn on what to do. On one hand I understand where he is coming from as far as the pain goes but on the other hand I have heard so many horror stories about methadone.
Can anyone suggest anything? Sub doctors are hard to come by where I live (canada) and I just don't know what to do anymore. Please help.
Are you going to a doctor or a clinic to get the methadone and are you taking the methadone to try and quit the oxys?How long have you been taking the methadone? Please be well informed about what you're getting yourself into with the methadone..Gather as much info as possible from this site...I learned first hand you can't always believe what the doctors and clinics tell you about it.I was on methadone for over a year.I went cold turkey off of 25 mgs 9 months ago.
When Purdue Pharma reformulated the pill and renamed it Oxycontin OP, that extended the patent on Oxycontin. Purdue Pharma won the lawsuit and all the generic manufacturers that were producing Oxycontin had to exit the market. A similar scenario happened with Opana ER. Endo Pharmaceuticals reformulated Opana ER so that it couldn't be crushed and snorted. When they did that, it extended their patent for at least another 10 years.
Okay, So to sum this up quickly I was on oxycontin (up to 200-400mg a day) for 3 years, and I went on methadone. My Babys dad was also doin this with me...anyways he got clean and wanted me off the methadone, so I stopped it Cold turky, but was too ***** to go thru that ****, and started using pills again ( I even got him back into and he was like 6 weeks clean....*sigh*) anyways, I DONT WANT TO go thru the hell I KNOW im facing.
Hey everyone, Im on methadone now about 4 years and i have been feeling depressed and taking panic attacks as of late. My grandmother knows a drug called venlafaxine but dont know what it could do if im on methadone. I have seen other posts where people were on both drugs and said it worked great. I hope there is someone who could give advise.

ve seen of fentanyl detox and my own year long, slow methadone recovery, I think fentanyl and methadone are only different in dosage. The full synthetic nature and side effects of both methadone and fentanyl make them very close tie for the worst detox ever. As I vomit and shat myself in my yard from methadone detox, I remember wishing I was a heroin or any other kind of addict. Anyway, mute point, but wanted to share.
How much and how long methadone use have you got under your belt bullseye?
I have numbness to both feet and some in lower legs now. I am prescribed Oxycontin 40 twice a day and Panadeine forte BT and Oxycodone 20mgs 3rd hourly. I have worsening pain to the area of surgery and now can only find pain relief laying down. If I go walking or standing for too long the pain is unbearable. Am I on a very high pain relief regime?
Yes, Oxycontin is a very good and effective pain reliever and I also think Methadone is as well. The difference between the two is one will give you the euphoric effect and the other does not. I feel that the Methadone is probably a better drug for relieving pain but that's my opinion. I do know that the Methadone is a natural drug rather than the Oxy that is synthetic.
Like Nick said, Be honest and don't ask the Doctor for a specific drug. Let him do the prescribing.

The comments ask for me to enter text In a "To" box o put "Methadone instead of Oxycontin" the to" box.. Any ideas ? I really prefer not to have that floating out on ether....
Hi Tifhckny I am on Methadone @70mgs a day Liquid and have been on and off for 10 give or take yrs.I have never heard of antone suffering any eye problems as a result of methadone.The cavities may be a result of a sweet tooth,some people experience a carbohydratecravind and weight gain,but that weight gain may be a result of a better lifestyle and not as much running around.Methadone has been around since the second world war and has a lot of research done on it.
Some drugs are metabolized very efficiently by our liver, like oxycontin(4 hours). Others such as methadone are much harder for your body to metabolize so you get half-lives in the 12-24 hour range, which is great for stabilized blood-methadone-content but you also run the risk of overdosing much easier even by doing drugs the day after you've done methadone.
I have already caught him once mixing klonopin and his methadone. But I am still very suspicious that he has do so over the week end at his parents house. I was just wondering if you could advise me as to what signs to watch for if I don't catch him right away. Like what the normal side effects within a day or two after that I would be looking for.
There are many other narcotic options other than oxycontin, however, what may work for one person may not work for another - therefore, it's virtually impossible to suggest what would be a good switch for you. You're best off discussing this with your doctor - simply be honest wtih him/her and tell them that the oxycontin is not working very well anymore and ask if there is anything they can do.
