I also have a couple horror stoies about being given narcan while on methadone and going through pure hell. The worst part of it was I was given this drug while I was fully awake(which is against guidlines), and lied to about it. I think I still have PTSD from having this happen to me a few times. I tried to sue but a lawer said I didn't have enough damages but your story is tragic and you should sue.

I was told narcan will put you in full blown w/d and it does depends on how stong and what pain med you are taking. Do not take any narcotic pain med while on that!!! I know that from working in the past will people detoxing on it, it will cause people to have severe thrashing...which is like major rls all over the body, vomiting, severe body aches, exustion, etc. Narcan is like antabuse for alcoholics. If an alcohlic is taking antabuse and they drink alcohol they will suffer big time...

methadone does narcan reduce time of serious withdrawal by making the front end worse........

I was under the impression that it is only to be given when a person is out. I was given narcan shots twice when awake (without my knowlege) on methadone and suffered big time. It even left me traumitized. Once the medics gave me a shot a lied about it. I knew I had been narcaned because I felt so sick and panicked and like my limbs were on fire. It is cruel to give narcan to awake addicts but sadly it happens too often.

But suboxone is actually narcan and bupe(not the whole name cant ever remember exactly how its spelled haha) and the bupe is the opiod and narcan is what will throw you into withdrawal if you take it to soon after taking pain meds and im sure you have heard if you do take a pain med while on suboxone you will go right into withdrawal which is completely untrue it is only the other way around so if you take a pain med and 4 hours later take suboxone you are going to be hurting but if you take s

This comes from the Naloxone (NarCan) that they added to the Buprenorphine so that it is less likely to be abused. NarCan is what they give you when you O.D. and it brings you back and throws you in to withdrawal in a matter of seconds. So, the only time you will have a bad experience with this drug is if you are not already in withdrawals.

HI......Welcome to the forum we have had members go from methadone to sub b/4 and if you stay on it 90 days you can beat the methadone's hard and long withdrawals but your plan is flawed....first off they cant induce sub unless your around 20mg of methadone 30mg if your willing to wait a week but 60 is impossible and I would question any doctor who tryed at such a dose the pdr says to indues at 20mg thats the doctors guide from sub.....

Iam under a doctors care and take 90 mg methadone each day now for years ,,,and want( other than dr,opinion) to know what it is like ? Ido not think that anyone that has not been through it would be able to tell me what it really is like..so please anybody tell me about your experience ,,thanks,, and i appolagize for the incorrect post earler ..

Hi~ Personally,I would never do this. It's a painful way to go. Narcan is a great drug for overdoses as it works in seconds and binds to every receptor. It saves lives but I don't think it would do much for your withdrawals. I'm not an expert,however. Gnarly will be on the forum at some point and he knows everything about this...a great resource and support! So,hang on and wait for his reply.

Mr Lucky66 I am on 95mg methadone and it burns a lot and mornings it sick to throw up point and if I do feel fine all I throw up is acid like stuff.

it is given to people whom the doctor feels are at lower risk for abuse/the naloxone can also cause headaches more so than the subutex...and some have a problem tolerating that...naloxone/narcan is a reversal agent and what we give patients when they have overdosed at the hospital...and not all doctors do this induction where u can go in and not be in wds..

Navy experimented with breaking the spines of cats and injecting them with Narcan. Surprisingly the cats recovered without paralysis. So they did a field study and injected narcan when the patients showed up at the ER. There was no evidence it helped prevent paralysis. I experimented injecting it into auto accident victims who had head flexure. What happens is amazing. THEY SELF SPLINT! In other words you don't need a collar (but we put them on). The head becomes rigid in position.

Yes you can that's what I did to get off my fentanyl patches and Percs. I started the end of feb and now I'm down to .50mg of subs. Just make sure you don't let the doctor start you on to high of a dose. Only take the minimum amount needed to help the w/d then stabilize on the dose. If you message me ill tell you how I did it. What they do is put you to sleep and give you a major dose of Narcan to push all drugs out of your system. You will still be in withdrawl when you wake up, even if only mental but I doubt it, and it will last for a while, maybe a year or more. I would very much recommend Suboxone maintenance with a tapering dose. It helped me and many others I know. It doesn't make you high like Methadone, you just feel normal, like before you started using.

Will a month of low suboxine use give my body time to kick most of the methadone? Secondly, are suboxine withdrawls as bad as methadone and how long to they last? Thanks for any advice and any advise on alternative meds (vitamins/holistic) for withdrawls.

That is exactly why addicts should avoid Talwin (pentazocaine) - after it started being abused on the streets the Company added narcane to the formulary. An addict taking Talwin will be tossed immediately (almost) into nasty precipitated withdrawal. Trust me, I've been there. And if you are od'd on methadone the first thing the EMT's do is suspect a narcotic overdose and inject narcane (the antagonist) - this can lead to strong enough shock to induce respiratory arrest....

What other drug would be better than ultram. methadone, subutex, suboxone, narcan,etc. ultram is better option than any of these. really think about it. Thats not near as bad as opiate withdrawal. It just depends on the person. you can get very high on ultram, but if you take it right and at tyhe right dose, it should be alot better than these other opiates. im sure you feel the same way. Again think about it. What would be a better option. There isnt one!

Last time I waited 24 hours after taking heroin (no methadone for a week).I took 2 8 ml tabs and felt terrible after the first so I presume this was precipitated wds .I got to day 2 and took another 8 ml but still felt terrible and gave in all too easily later that afternoon .What I need to know is how long should I wait this time and how long is it likely to be before I start to feel o.k again.The doctor is only going to prescribe me 8 mls a day and I just don't think it will be enough.

The next day you come in, they start giving you small doses of Narcan to begin cleaning your brain. Then you go home to sleep all day and night. Well, this will continue till the last day where you stay there all day and they give you a large dose of Narcan to totally clean your brain of opiates. After that, they inserted a naltrexone implant. This is NOT an opiate nor is something you would get w/d's from.

Drink protein shakes or ensure, boost. Exercise as much as possible. Diet with lots of fruits, veggies, protein. Lots of fluids. Each detox gets harder and harder.

no matter what decision I make, as far as Methadone or Suboxen. Wish I could find a private doctor who would give me methadone and over see my detox; but that impossible to find!

I have been on MMT for 7 years and used to have a dose of 90 split but for the past 2years I have been buying ten mg methadone pills and taking twenty five in the am and twenty five in the pm then the person I was getting them from started messing around with the cost etc so I went back to the clinic I am aside of myself that I am not being allowed to come down off my dose. I think suboxone is a better choice because i can get the prescription and not stand in line everyday that makes me crazy.

Hello, I am from Norway and want to try to stop with methadone and benzodiazepines. I asked people from this forum, and also some from Norway which try this in England or Spain. All people have told me they were angry after the detox, and waste of money. I slept like a baby lst night (fell asleep before even taking the sleeping aid meds she gave me) at 8 PM (I usually am up till midnihgt) and woke up at 11 PM and took the sleeping meds and a celebrex (my back is killing me) and woke up at 7 to get my 2 little kids off to school and drove again to work. I meet with her today (she is closly monitering my success to make sure I don't relapse or tkae more opiods) She wants me to go onto Naltrraxone....

From then, until Now, I have been basically taking 20mg every 12 hrs. I have no experience with methadone but someone will post soon....i have read where people taper from methadone and ct and also people taper from meth then go to sub...then taper...if done correctly...it can minimize WDS according to much that I have read...good luck...

Enough was enough went to methadone clinic had enough of that he did his detox, while I couldnt hack it so I used my meds one time to take the edge off, ended up dead in er and three bag narcan drip, breathing tube, and heart shocked, because it was an overdose nothing for pain, you do detox from the narcan, and the look on my husbands face when I woke up in ICU I cant ever forget as I'm sure he'll never forget mine when I revived him or had to watch emts shock his heart...
