So, I just poured myself a glass of grapefruit juice and took my medicine - then for some reason I remembered that grapefruit juice interacts with some medications. I just did a quick search online and here is a list (probably not complete) of some medications that interact badly with grapefruit juice. Including some opiates.... Please be careful! a small part of the piece I read: "Amy Karch, R.N., M.S.
one of those is methadone - Iam on 150ml's per day which is a VERY high dose and I use both Phytosomed Milk Thistle called Siliphos (100mg Silybin - which is the REAL active ingredient) and that has a 8-10x better absorption rate than standard milk thistle products - I also take a capsule form of milk thistle, 2 at night = 280mg Silymarin (which is about 200mg Silybin without the super-absorption) - ON TOP OF THIS I drink Pure Grapefruit Juice and eat 1 Pink Grapefruit per day...
As I understand Methadone is broken down by an enzyme which is greatly retarded by Clairithromycin, this ay cause an overdose to occur in the user. I have been taking Methadone for 5 years now (was at 180mg/day now at 10mg/day) can I safely take the Clairithromycin? Grapefruit does not even affect the TX drugs ive heard and never does lemons...BUT...
This is a problem with many people on methadone. When I was on methadone, I never gained weight, probably because I was so poor and didn't work much. This drug can help, but it is often overused or at dose too high and makes people lazy, constipated, sweating too much and for me on higher doses, I had bad dreams and panic attacks. I think if the right type of addicts take methadone at a reasonable dose, it can be very helpful and help people function better.
THAT IF YOU DRINK GRAPEFRUIT JUICE IN SAME TIME WHEN YOU DRINK YOUR DOSAGE OF METHADONE (METADON) HCL IT BECOMES MORE POTENT...IDK...DO YOU KNOW ?? === And my plans for Methadone are long,i think ,and I was adviced at my sessions that Methadone therapy should be long-lasting because long use of opiates (esspecially heroin) leads to brain chemistry disorder and disorder in it's biological sense.
the second day i went to the clinic i should have quit but i was looking for a buzz, whicth i did get for a short time and of course it doesnt last, 9 months of traveling 42 miles a day getting up at 4am and dose at 6am, the money the gas, and the conslers dont give a crap if you live or if you die, as long as they got suckers to keep comeing in and raise your dose so your screwed, this is what ive seen and heard from others its about the money, they dont know crap about methadone because they
I was told by a childhood friend of 30 years (we just found one another on facebook, haven't seen him since 2008) that is now clean n sober from Roxy's and others meds, that methadone was going to be WORSE than any white knuckling I tried while addicted to my pain meds! WORSE????...

thanks Research about the interaction of grapefruit juice with drugs suggests that compounds in grapefruit juice, called furanocoumarins (for example, bergamottin), may be responsible for the effects of grapefruit juice. Researchers believe that furanocoumarins block the enzymes in the intestines that normally break down many drugs. One glass of grapefruit juice could elicit the maximum blocking effect, and the effect may persist for longer than 24 hours.
Several organic compounds found in grapefruit and specifically in grapefruit juice exert inhibitory action on drug metabolism by the enzyme. It has been established that a group of compounds called furanocoumarins are responsible for this interaction and not flavonoids as was previously reported.
Rapid opiate detox is a safe and effective procedure used to release opiates from the body. The detoxification drug treatment procedure involves administering intravenous medications that remove and block the narcotics from the opioid receptors in the central nervous system while the patient is safely and comfortably asleep. The detox is done under anesthesia to avoid extreme discomfort and pain that usually accompanies opioid withdrawal.
I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back. Then we tried message therapy, it helps but only for a short period. And I have tried changing my pillows on my bed and sleeping in different positions and nothing seems to help for long term. What can I do?
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
I took about 3 Loperamide tabs, 3 Potassium pills, and 1 Diazepam pill before bed (Drinking a glass of grapefruit juice after). Despite the meds, I could not get to sleep due to RLS, until my girlfriend started massaging my calves, and I fell asleep right away. I woke up about an hour later, and could not get back to sleep. I was almost in tears. I gave-in and took a 1/2mg of suboxone. I took a hot bath, where I remained restless, and lied back down.
chocolate, benedryl, and grapefruit juice. I can't drink grapefruit juice, but the chocolate and benedryl were very helpful. Chocolate helps you produce endorphines, the benedryl helps to reduce some of the cold sweats and also helps you sleep. After taking Ambien for nearly 3 years, being able to sleep without having to take it was my first first glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. Oh yeah. I'm not sure what the juice was to supposed to do, but it was supposed to help.
That is why there is a warning about drowsiness on the bottle. If a person ingests Loperimide after taking a quantity of grapefruit juice and or black pepper, it will cross the blood brain barrier, though not very much will make it. It is enough though to cut withdrawals down considerably. Loperimide was originally meant to be a opioid pain killer, but in 99% of the populationit doesn't cross the barrier and is only an agonist of the Mu opioid receptors in the gut.
I took a vitamin, and a potassium pill, and have been drinking grapefruit juice. The taste of the grapefruit juice seems to help with the bad taste in my mouth. I took a shower after a bath in Epsom salt, but it didn't help much, sweating like a ditch digger again. I also have been noticing I seem to smell these weird odors, like rotting meat, but there is nothing here like that. I am having muscle spasm in places that I never had them before, my wrist, my feet, and my fingers.
The slower opiates metabolize the more that is used by the body. Grapefruit juice will make opiates feel 2 times stronger and last 2 times as long in some people. The same thing with some antacids especially Tagament.
Got on 90mg of cymbalta and one norco 10 every 6 hrs, and it works better than the methadone. Hang in there though, it doesn't happen overnight, it can take upto 2-3 months for the cymbalta to start working right. You also have to be honest with yourself and your doctor and do some deep soul searching. Honestly, if you are at this point, as I was, you are addicted to the High and you are missing it. That is part of the evil that comes with narcotic pain meds.
I get Kidney Stones and last time was put on 8 MG of Diluadid every 4 hours from 2/15/09 to 4/29/09, boosting this with grapefruit juice and frequently adding 10-30 mgs of Oxycodone for breakthrough pain. That’s includes IV at the hospital a few times. Well over 2 months HEAVY Diluadid (Hydromorphine) use. With this regiment week one was pretty awful but doable; and I survived without taking more opiates or the ER or rehab.
It doesn't happen to me when I'm up and active, only when I try to lie or sometimes sit still and relax. Please if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I already have some insomnia so this added interference to my sleep is very unwanted.
Good Evening Tramadol Warriors! Welcome. Please come on in. You are most welcome to snuggle in and make yourself cozy & comfortable. It can be a rough ride. But better with friends. All are welcome!
But in my experience after four days things begin to improve and you begin to take ownership of your mind and body again. To help with the withdrawals drink grapefruit juice as this helps to get toxins out of the body, vitamin and mineral supplements or a vitamin tonic, an antehistamine (drowsy) taken at night will also keep your sinuses clear, drink plenty of fluids and have warm baths and eat healthy. Ibuprofen also help with the muscle aches and fever and remember throughout IT WILL END.
It might help if you got some opiate potentiators too (grapefruit juice, tums, xanax, soma etc.) to make the best use of what you have left.
I know that one of the meds that im on now. you cant drink grapefruit juice with, and thats either the Vistaril or the flexeril, I cant remember which one. But I dont drink that nasty stuff any how..

Bromelain is the ingredient found in grapefruit and grapefruit juice. While it is recommended for weight loss, it is strictly off limits for people with high blood pressure taking medications such as Hyzaar.
The difference this time is I've been taking about 1/2 to 1 mg of xanax twice a day and 1mg right before bed along with nyquil and imodium. Im drinking lots of cranberry juice, forcing myself to eat, bathe, and get outside even if for a drive or short walk. exercise too. it releases the endorphins in your brain that makes you feel happiness and gives you energy. I honestly have had very little withdrawal symptoms at all this time.
I urge you to check it out becausr the info, includes some food interac. Grapefruit juice for florinef (I take for low bl. pressure)? Nice my specialist, noted as one of the top in North American never mentioned that one to me. As to the rest, well, it was indeed enlightening. I was in no way surpriused by the CNS depressant, interactions, et al from "the pills" but it was the rest of it that dang near blew my pantyhose off!
