So, I just poured myself a glass of grapefruit juice and took my medicine - then for some reason I remembered that grapefruit juice interacts with some medications. I just did a quick search online and here is a list (probably not complete) of some medications that interact badly with grapefruit juice. Including some opiates.... Please be careful! a small part of the piece I read: "Amy Karch, R.N., M.S.
one of those is methadone - Iam on 150ml's per day which is a VERY high dose and I use both Phytosomed Milk Thistle called Siliphos (100mg Silybin - which is the REAL active ingredient) and that has a 8-10x better absorption rate than standard milk thistle products - I also take a capsule form of milk thistle, 2 at night = 280mg Silymarin (which is about 200mg Silybin without the super-absorption) - ON TOP OF THIS I drink Pure grapefruit Juice and eat 1 Pink grapefruit per day...
As I understand methadone is broken down by an enzyme which is greatly retarded by Clairithromycin, this ay cause an overdose to occur in the user. I have been taking methadone for 5 years now (was at 180mg/day now at 10mg/day) can I safely take the Clairithromycin? This discussion is related to methadone and Biaxin.
- L Glutamine (for GABA and gut support) - L Methionine (for SAM-e and serotonin and other receptors) - L Tyrosine (for energy) I'm thinking the L-Tyrosine is the only one of those three I should take DURING detox for the energy after the first couple days. I have recommended doses but I am not sure how accurate they are. I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.
This is a problem with many people on methadone. When I was on methadone, I never gained weight, probably because I was so poor and didn't work much. This drug can help, but it is often overused or at dose too high and makes people lazy, constipated, sweating too much and for me on higher doses, I had bad dreams and panic attacks. I think if the right type of addicts take methadone at a reasonable dose, it can be very helpful and help people function better.
HI and welcome to the forum......when you go on methadone its to get your life back methadone is not designed to give you a euphoria its designed to keep you from going into withdrawals.....as a substitute for the heroin when used with a proper aftercare program you can put your life back together build a foundation so when the time comes you can get off it and be narcotic free....please dont try to get high on methadone its dangerous if used that way....
then gone, its not that im running out on my methadone i woke up feeling good,so 1 more week at 4mgs and im finished i could quit at 9mgs but im not going to take that chance. It would be easyer at 4mgs if i go into wds, hopefully, i will feel norm when im done, maybe im not addicted to the methadone i hated it from day one.
I was told by a childhood friend of 30 years (we just found one another on facebook, haven't seen him since 2008) that is now clean n sober from Roxy's and others meds, that methadone was going to be WORSE than any white knuckling I tried while addicted to my pain meds! WORSE????...

Rapid opiate detox is a safe and effective procedure used to release opiates from the body. The detoxification drug treatment procedure involves administering intravenous medications that remove and block the narcotics from the opioid receptors in the central nervous system while the patient is safely and comfortably asleep. The detox is done under anesthesia to avoid extreme discomfort and pain that usually accompanies opioid withdrawal.
I remember reading something about grapefruit and the new protease inhibitors this months ago and therefore I have steered clear of grapefruit juice while on treatment. Some of the drugs that may interact with VICTRELIS include but are not limited to: P-glycoprotein inhibitors, such as: grapefruit juice http://hepatitis-c.emedtv.com/victrelis/victrelis-drug-interactions.
Ive read that lemons and limes are similar to grapefruit in its reaction to certain medications...i am trying to dig it out from google again....lemons do clean the blood and the liver very well...im a big lemon drinker, before i started TX...
I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back. Then we tried message therapy, it helps but only for a short period. and I have tried changing my pillows on my bed and sleeping in different positions and nothing seems to help for long term. What can I do?
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
Im so sorry to hear that your going through this. Im detoxing from methadone and my first days were very much like your describing. What is Effexor for? It sounds familiar, I think my sister took it at one time. Im on day 13 of a process that they say takes 3-5 months, so i understand finding it hard to stay positive.. But guess what? Today i shaved and put on makeup. I almost made it to my sons football practice. For me that was a huge victory and I was only looking for a small one.
Was hooked on Vicodin, elevated myself to methadone (not prescribed), and after 6 years, decided to admit myself into an outpatient Suboxone program, attending group meetings 4 days a week, under 24mg of SubX per day. After 2yrs, I stopped going to the program, stopped Suboxone and Valium, cold turkey, went through the excruciating withdrawl symptoms, and was clean for 2yrs. 2 Winters ago, I was re-introduced to Suboxone through a friend, who had a 2mg pill, and shared it with me.
my hubby held mine wile i did a reall fast taper off methadone and quit the xanax and norco ct. it was rough and i am still weak as a wet dishrag 13 days totally off, but it was worth every minute to not be a slave to the pills any more. i'll say it again.......YOU CAN DO IT WITH GOD'S HELP.
chocolate, benedryl, and grapefruit juice. I can't drink grapefruit juice, but the chocolate and benedryl were very helpful. Chocolate helps you produce endorphines, the benedryl helps to reduce some of the cold sweats and also helps you sleep. After taking Ambien for nearly 3 years, being able to sleep without having to take it was my first first glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. Oh yeah. I'm not sure what the juice was to supposed to do, but it was supposed to help.
That is why there is a warning about drowsiness on the bottle. If a person ingests Loperimide after taking a quantity of grapefruit juice and or black pepper, it will cross the blood brain barrier, though not very much will make it. It is enough though to cut withdrawals down considerably. Loperimide was originally meant to be a opioid pain killer, but in 99% of the populationit doesn't cross the barrier and is only an agonist of the Mu opioid receptors in the gut.
Sanders is as knowledgeable as they come about plant medicine. Another great source of information is the wise and hilarious Michael Moore--the herbalist and founder of the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine, not the filmmaker. His site is loaded with PDF files on the basics of Western herbalism, anatomy and physiology, and copies of classic out-of-print Materia Medicas. Well worth a visit and even a long stay: http://www.swsbm.
I'm on day 10 now and I'm starting to feel better, I've gained about 50lbs through all this drug abuse and then the methadone program... So now I really want to focus on getting myself healthy. I have no exercise program at all for 2yeara now, I'm lazy because of the pain and drugs. Any advice on how to start? Where to get help? I think that if I start to get in shape, I will be happier with myself and will keep me from relapsing again.
Clarify what extremely high BP is with numbers if you can. and what heart disease there is besides the high BP. There are only two withdrawals that will kill you outright. Those are alcohol and benzodiazepines. That is UNLESS you have a pre-existing condition. Then the addiction per se may not kill you,but the events that it initiates may kill you. How many of what strength has he been taking for how long? That makes a difference. Right now make sure his diet and nutrition are good.
Got on 90mg of cymbalta and one norco 10 every 6 hrs, and it works better than the methadone. Hang in there though, it doesn't happen overnight, it can take upto 2-3 months for the cymbalta to start working right. You also have to be honest with yourself and your doctor and do some deep soul searching. Honestly, if you are at this point, as I was, you are addicted to the High and you are missing it. That is part of the evil that comes with narcotic pain meds.
I was taking vicoden, then Oxcy, then methadone and now Suboxone. I have had 9 nerve blocks with in the last 18 months and still wake up in pain and have a constant pain in a grapefruit size area of my back. No pain down either leg. I was taking Nurontrin and zanaflex (both at night) and Suboxone in the am and pm.
I get Kidney Stones and last time was put on 8 MG of Diluadid every 4 hours from 2/15/09 to 4/29/09, boosting this with grapefruit juice and frequently adding 10-30 mgs of Oxycodone for breakthrough pain. That’s includes IV at the hospital a few times. Well over 2 months HEAVY Diluadid (Hydromorphine) use. With this regiment week one was pretty awful but doable; and I survived without taking more opiates or the ER or rehab.
It doesn't happen to me when I'm up and active, only when I try to lie or sometimes sit still and relax. Please if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I already have some insomnia so this added interference to my sleep is very unwanted.
I hear all the weight loss stories, and I've read Pounds and Inches where you are to gorge yourself for the first two days while taking the HCG injections however I am afraid that I will gain the 10 pounds back it has taken me 3 long months to lose. How important is this? Wouldn't I get a jump start on the weight loss if I didn't have that additional weight to lose that I gained the first 2 days?
