Common Questions and Answers about Methadone and exercise

methadose

Avatar m tn Why does methadone cause such weight gain, and how can you combat this. I exercise daily, I eat very little and yet I cannot lose weight. Some days when I work out I get cold sweats and it feels like my dose is wearing out, then I take a break and calm down and everything is fine. Last time I was on methadone I put on 45 lbs and was completely inactive, I want to avoid those issues this time. Vitamins? Food diet? Does anything prevent the constipation and weight gain?
Avatar n tn if yes then consult your doctor for regarding alternate medication, he can maintain his weight by diet modification and regular exercise, avoid fatty and junk foods. have small and frequent foods instead heavy ones. yoga and pranayam is also helpful for it. he may need counselling for opioid addiction. wish him a good health.
Avatar m tn Hello and welcome. Yes that is an extremely high dosage of methadone. Xanax and methadone are both respiratory And central nervous system depressants. They are very dangerous to take together. With that being said you need to start to taper off of both meds. A proper taper will take about a year. Are you seeing a counselor and attending support groups? There is freedom from the chains and bondage of addiction. Keep the faith.
Avatar f tn I just gain 20 lbs! I hate it. I have been trying to exercise and diet and nothing has helped, I heard methadone makes u gain?
620048 tn?1358018235 I know next to nothing about addiction medicine except that when we rotated through the nursery we dreaded the baby born addicted to methadone the most. They had withdrawal symptoms for weeks and months. For the infants (and I have read for the people addicted themselves) withdrawal is far harder from methadone than for heroin or other opiates. I don't know if this helps. As for it being worse in MS, I don't know.
1264367 tn?1408104163 I have gastroparesis, and GERD, and am on methadone maintenance. I noticed I started having problems as soon as I started the Methadone Clinic, 3 yrs ago. I recently had an endoscopy and waiting on the biopsy results. I'm so sick of not being able to eat anything. I'm living off of oatmeal and can't over eat. But it's not over eating because I've been starving. I can only eat a small bowl of oatmeal before I take my methadone and then another small one for lunch.
Avatar f tn I dont believe methadone has anything to do with weight gain or loss, its your life style that changes , your eating habits your activity level. Ive been off of methadone for over a year and ive lost 40 plus pounds , but was due to the change of lifestyle, i exercise and eat healthy . When i was on it i didnt care what i looked like so i didnt follow a strict regiment.
Avatar f tn ll be so much better off if you can get your energy back up through nutrition, vitamins, some exercise, and a little time for you. I know how impossible it seems when you have kids; I'm a single mom of four and finding time to take care of yourself seems impossible. But trust me, by putting yourself first and taking care of you, you are doing what's best for your kids. I promise you if you continue with the meth you'll regret it. You will miss so much of what your kids do.
1184700 tn?1266491688 I started exercising 6 days ago. I walk a quarter mile then run a quarter mile, then do it again. After that I walk another half mile to cool down. It sure is hard going through methadone detox. I look over at the other person at the small gym I go to and he or she looks like they're really sweatin it and I think, man if you only knew. I used to run track in school, I could do run a couple miles easy, but that was about 12 years and about 1000 packs of cigarettes ago.
Avatar f tn either you give up and give in to the beast or you tell yourself that you are worth it and that you can stay the course.....It is difficult detoxing off of methadone and the amino therapy protocol article in the health pages is truly a life saver when in comes to methadone detox and withdrawal. There are a few members that will be along shortly that are experts in methadone withdrawal....Gnarly is kind of the resident expert on methadone withdrawal....
714288 tn?1243254191 t take anything for it besides the methadone The only thing that is totally safe is moderate exercise and eat the best foods you can. I exercise more than I used to but I still don't workout as much as I'd like.
11532111 tn?1421549858 5s a day I am currently down to 0mg methadone today is my first day without metadone and have been at 2 and half loratabs for 14 days it is so hard to not go back up to 3 loratabs a day seems like it would be so much better would this set me way back and I have most the thomas recipie has anyone tried withdrawl ease or something like it that worked dont wanna waste 150 dollars if it dont work
1479078 tn?1329363783 you mean that you have been 9 days clean of methadone and pills ? having problems with sleep is more than normal so please, do not get impatient nor discouraged because this is really a long battle....motivation, lack of energy and sleep are the physical symptoms that linger longer , kimbo... it took me some months to have a long night of sleep .... you may try this supersnooze...people talk good about it... it has melatonin, valerian, cal/mag, camomille and some other natural stuff...
Avatar m tn They almost killed me. Methadone gets you high, and the detox off methadone is much longer than most opiates. On the other hand, I recognize that they can be effective if used correctly. A few questions: If you couldn't control the roxys, what's different that makes you think you can control the methadone? Are you looking for pain management or sobriety? How did the doctor suggest you use them?
5137013 tn?1364335185 The epsom salts, exercise, and drinking lots of fluids help a lot, but consider cutting back on the Tylenol. I hope you feel better soon. You're on your way.
1017452 tn?1254904998 It may depend to some degree on length of use and prior dose.......methadone is hard one to quit comfortably.......Is their a way that he could dose every other day for a week or so before stopping entirely? Otherwise it can take up to a month to start feeling right. And sleeping well - sleep is about the last thing to return......Exercise and dryheat suanas are very good for this time....
1741355 tn?1311457956 Hello mh friends just wanted to stop in and let you know Im still going...methadone is a *****!!! Its been 16 days free of everything!!! Been a very rough road but starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!! Sleep hasnt returned to normal but on a good nite (last nite wasnt) im getting 6 or so hrs just not constant....life is slowly returning to normal, getting out a little everyday, going to finish "back to school" shopping today and over the weekend taking a minivaca....
662972 tn?1270166301 I went the suboxone route this time to get off of methadone, since getting clean of sub Ive lost about 30lbs. You can always lose weight with diet and exercise, regardless of the methadone. I wish you the best of luck, take care.
Avatar f tn everyones different. it was just the opposite for me. after getting off it, I suffered what all long term users do, and thats energy and motivation drop off. so not being as active has made me gain weight after quiting.....not a ton but about 10-15 lbs.
Avatar m tn I have done a lot of research on the affects of exercise and diet in regards to detox and there are some amazing results from a lot of different studies. Now, working out is going to be the last thing you will be motivated to do but if you force yourself to get past the first 5-10 minutes you will even start feeling better while you are exercising. You need to do at least 30-40 minutes of continuous exercise and weight lifting in combo even helps more.
2202447 tn?1338748214 ve been self medicating. I have no insurance and a bad back, and I do tree work and its extremely hard on ur body. So I've always had to buy mine off the street. That money adds up too. One of the main reasons my wife left me.
Avatar f tn 10 yrs of my addiction at that level and I never took more than 100mgs of methadone and I was fine. I never felt any euphoria after the first few days of starting methadone and really I don't think you should. Maybe a little slow taper would let u know if u could bring ur dose down and also see how the pain reacted now. As far as the weight gain, Oh do i know what u mean. Methadone is notorious for weight gain issues. I went from a US size 2 to a size 10.
Avatar f tn I agree with Wilde...take it easy and just do some light exercise or housework. Do you have access to a pool that your could maybe float around or do laps in? If you're experiencing high anxiety I would recommend soaking in an epsom salt bath instead of jogging around the block:). Take it easy and take care of yourself. Congrats to you for taking the leap! The first few days are rough but just keep reminding yourself why you're doing it and get pumped up!
Avatar m tn I have been taking 40mg of methadone and 50mg of percoscet for over a year. I lowered the methadone two just 20mg for 5 days and this is day two with no methadone and 2nd day of no percoeset. I feel like crap but how long until i feel normal again.
Avatar m tn Now that I am completely off of it I have lost my 30 ish pounds I gained while in mmt. I usually weigh between 110 115 so it was hard when the weight starting coming. I'm sure I am losing so much just because of withdrawals not being able to eat, etc but it will be much easier to maintain a weight that you want while off of methadone. I tried exercise and nothing would work. It's a hell of a drug I tell ya. Hate that *******!!
Avatar m tn exercise, exercise, exercise....it kickstarts the brain to make the chemicals it quit making when we took the meds. also look into the thomas recipe in the health pages. great for vitamins and aminos to help. and good luck...
