Methadone and dilaudid

Common Questions and Answers about Methadone and dilaudid

Either I go cold turkey in the next few days, because I'm running out of everything, or I make the call and go on methadone. I'm DEFINITELY ready to quit, but here's what I'm faced with when it comes to methadone: First, here's what I'm used to doing: 10-12mgs dilaudid IM (muscle) every 4-6 hours for the past 3 mos, but before that, I was abusing 10mg Perks for several years. I now have my own 5mgs of methadone, and I need to take 35mgs to not feel sick.
Did 6 8mg dilaudid/day for about a year then 60 -100 m l methadone for about a year and a bit and then down to 40m l/day for a week till I stopped 5 days ago. Tapering just didn't work for me. When I got to low I just cheated constantly and ended up back to my original dose. I'm feeling the worst I have in a long time but I have decided that no matter how hard it gets ill never take an opiate again. I have 20 m l methadone on my night stand just to prove to myself that I can do it.
methadone is cheap and the exalgo and suboxone are both EXPENSIVE! 16mg of exalgo daily for 30days is $600 without insurance here in nebraska! where methadone is like $15 dollars a month. I liked methadone alot for pain management very little withdrawl symptoms but I ended up with a fatal heart arrythmia because of the methadone. I would slip into PVC's premature ventricular contractions which can lead to ventricular fibbrilation which leads to death!!
Its like I'm standing outside my life watching it go by and it's only been 3 months. Withdrawal from methadone was horrendous and I had to move to another province to kick it. I've recently moved back and there's been a million triggers I've never dealt with since I've been gone. Thanks for replying I really appreciate it.
dilaudid is an extremey powerful drug-8x more potent than morphine and 3 to 4x more than heroin-Im 22 and have been on and off oxy, methadone, dilaudid, morphine, fentanyl, etc. and just about every other drug known since i was 17.....None of which were for pain.....STAY FAR, FAR AWAY if you can....made a mistke of doing dilaudid iv for the first pain killer i did and that was 05".....still fighting the led to the worst drug addiction over the past four to five years....
Then I transferred down to dilaudid and commenced with a week long taper. In 4 hours it will be exactly 2 days since my last dose of opiates (a little bit of leftover fentanyl gel from the patch which was rubbed directly on my skin/throat, and a little bit of IR dilaudid). The thing is, my w/d's are VERY mild this time around! I was really expecting to go to hell and back with this fentanyl withdrawal but so far it has been 10x easier than my oxy withdrawals I went through last year.
I have been on these medications ( methadone, zanax, dilaudid, and zanaflex ) for 10 years. On Jan 5, 2012 I went into Rehab. It took 16 days of tapering and clonapine and then suboxen to get me to the point where I could get into the recovery center. In the recovery center you can not be on any narcotics. Now remember i was on 140 mg methadone, 6mg zanax, 4mg dilaudid( morphine pill form ), and zanaflex 8mg.
I have been on methadone now for 8 months and I've gotten my life back. I am on 80mg a day and other than methadone I am 100% clean. I know some feel that your not clean but I can tell ou that it has saved my life in so many different ways. I go to groups and enjoy them. Just wondering if anyone had anything to add about methadone or tips.I really don't know a lot about methadone I mean I've read all web sites and things! All info is apperiated.
I am on methadone for the treatment of CHRONIC pain and I am having a hard time locating a pharmacy That has it in stock. I am due to have my prescription filled on April 2 so I started calling around my neighborhood pharmacies in Sunrise Florida, but no body has it in stock. Can someone please help me?
I to used to take dilaudid and oxy when I didn't have methhadone but when ii decided to quit I kept to just the methadone to try to get on a lower even dose before detxing. They really are the same thing In the end to some extent but the highs and lows of pills kinda thew me off. Didn't like starting to feel bad when I woke then 6 hour later then 6hr. Had a tough 10-15 days but on day 20 I'm feeling pretty good. You can do this.
You can email me at ***@**** and give me a city. You can search under methadone Allicance and look for a listing of MMTC's. You have to state by state alphabetically. You can probably find what you need. Or email me and I'll help.
I'm now on methadone and would MUCH rather be on methadone than oxys. Oxys are SO dangerous and the side effects are disturbing. It works VERY well, but the more you take, the more you need, and then you're in a downward spiral and addicted to pain killers. At least with methadone, there aren't any serious health risks (if taken properly) and it doesn't make you feel high and useless (oxys made me feel this way) anyway, I think oxys should be banned...
and then when the methadone detox becomes methadone maintainence, you'll be right where I am, and I am in NO shape to rollerblade. I have no idea what to expect with the w/ds... Can anyone tell me? It seems that it takes a really long time before I start feeling bad... Four or five days... is that normal? Does that mean I won't have a bad w/d??? I'm taking about three drops a day and just waiting for the bad w/ds to hit. How long will it take to get through the worst???
This afternoon I had to level with my doctor and tell him that I had taken too many and I was sick and needed help. Having come out and told my doctor of my feelings was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. He agreed to write new presecriptions for Oxycontin and Diladid though he was reluctant and extremely disappointed. My story begins with the fact that I have had 10 back surgeries. Seven surgeries last year alone.
I want to have pain pump removed at my doctor's suggestion, I have been on this pump for nine years, she wants to put saline in it on next refill date in 3 weeks but I am terrified of going through withdrawal and my pain issues have yet to be fixed so I know I'll still be in a lot of pain as she has been slowly reducing the amount of dilaudid now and I have mobility pain and really bad leg pain at night.
-) While I have never really detoxed off Dilaudid, I did use it Intravenously for many years, and its a pretty hefty drug. Dilaudid, Fentanyl, methadone and other synthetic opiates are a little different in their chemical make up as they were created in a lab to be stronger than pure morphine. The shakes you are having while unpleasant are not uncommon with synthetic opiate wd.
and Lucky picked up on a VERY important part of your plan........dilaudid (hydromorphone) is short acting and isnt a good choice for a taper....and even a daily dose of 1mg will maintain the addiction for awhile....You will run out of dilaudid before you run out of withdrawals.........
for withdrawl than oxycontin. i figure i have to drop the dilaudid lower and take an extended release drug. any help on the best way to taper off this high dosage dilaudid by substituting. one person said use fentynol patch.
I find that withdrawal from narcotics are all similiar as I have detoxed from many forms includng dilaudid iv use and it is a b tch as are all withdrawals. Hang in there it is about two weeks before the it seems you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.......
Welcome to the forum --- try to share some more information about yourself. Dilaudid is one powerful narcotic and w/d's depend on how much and how long you have been using. All the best.
He only gives me 60 4mg dilaudid and 60 methadone 10 mg per mounth. The dilaudid is the only thing that helps and he will not put me on just dilaudid. he gave me opana last mounth and it did nothing to help. please tell me what i can do to get what works for meThe dilaudid works fine but he will not give me enough to get thru the mo.
I came home in February, and went on home health with 2 iv's and family managing me with iv fluids, nutrition, and phenagran and IV dilaudid. Long story, short. I got so addicted, and the docs when I came off, just gave me morphine by mouth at first. Then, they did dilaudid by mouth, with me having horrible wd's. Since May, I have been in pain management, but failed my last urine drug test (they test every month) because I ran out during work travel and took a few er morphine I had left over.
They put him on Cymbalta to help with mood and eating. No go. I feel until he is off the dilaudid nothing will help. I had to yell from the rooftops to nurses and doctors to understand what was going on. Anyway after spearheading by me with his surgeon and oncologist we are seeing an Addicition Specialist, Dr. Peter Coleman. Of course my husband does not think he has a probelm except that the drug alleviates his pain. I believe the pain is the drug wanting its next pill.
So I was sent to a pain care center, you probably guessed this....So, they put me on methadone, and dilaudid...I eventually quit dilaudid as it did not help with pain...They switched me to oxycodone and uped methadone...OK, well it turns out I have one bad knee.I am scheduled to have knee replacement surgery on Novemeber 7th. I currently take 60 milligrams of oxycodone and thirty milligrams of methadone...
Does anyone know if taking methadone (120mg) per day then being hospitalized and placed on a Dilaudid IV pump then taken off cold turkey would cause psychotic type behavior. This recently happened to my son and I am trying to figure it out. He was psychotic for 3 days. On day 2 of the psychosis he was given 120mg methadone and improved some but continued to have problems. He received 60mg the next day then no more. He was sent home and his mental status is almost back to normal.
Dilaudid for me produces hives but no hallucinations and I have had large doses of demerol without good pain control and no side effects. methadone does nothing for my pain but did produce vivid dreams but no nightmares or hallucinations. So everyone responds differently. I hope your husband will find something that is effective for his pain without any of the side effects that methadone caused for him. I wish you both the best.
na with the methadone clinic works. the methadone clinic i use offer me counselling and group therapy. i hope i've been some help. keep us posted. i will pray for you tonight. i hope it helps. 100 a day. i thought i had seen a lot when a chic i knew who dealt was taking 70/day. Get a mask or someone else's urine for now. This forum is for addicts helping other addicts. Let us know how you make out.
At the peak of my addiction i was IVing up to 110 mgs of dilaudid a day (12mg at a time). I quit and went on the methadone program. I'm up to 120 mgs a day. People talk about opiates being a CNS and respitory depressant, but this stuff amps me up till i'm bouncing off the walls. My heart rate goes up about 10 bpm and i cannot sleep. I talk and talk and talk when i'm on this stuff. i become neurotic about things. It's like i'm on coke or amphetamines. Is this normal?
Anyway enough talk 3-7 days physical for short acting opioid like dilaudid and after that the sleep, anxiety, tremors , sometimes opsession and so many and all those weird terrible feelings set in depending pn the person and will go away slowly. Goes physical withdraw then to mental then better or physical& mental to mental and slowly you recover from the mental.
I was going to go through with the amputation but now have decided against it, I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for pain control other than methadone, can a person stay on methadone? How would i go about detoxing from methadone? I wanted to talk with someone that has had intrathecal drug delivery and nerve destroying procedures. I have a lot of questions, i am doing research on all of these subjects so i can be better armed with info when i see my ortho doc on 12-1.
