Common Questions and Answers about Metformin yasmin pcos

glucophage

Avatar n tn I too am on Yasmin, but never had any problems while taking them. I was told that Yasmin bc is the best choice given to those with acne problems and pcos. It's a mild dose of bc. Try to give yourself 3 months to regulate it in your body. Consult your doctor if you have serious side affects. Are you taking any other meds for your pcos? I'm also on Metformin for weight issues. I started my journey in September 2008 at 333lbs and I am now at 272lbs.
Avatar f tn Metformin and some type of birth control pill are normally the treatments of pcos. I've had pcos since (and maybe longer) 2007 and have been on metformin 500mg 2x since Jan of this year, plus I'm on Yasmin bc pills. Yasmin, like luisa24 said is the best form of bc pills for pcos. It also helps great if you suffer from mild acne breakouts. To answer your question about the side affects after you stopped treatment, well that i cannot answer.
864198 tn?1239188205 Why were you on 2 types of birth control pills? Thats not really healthy. I only take Yasmin and Metformin and it works. Now, if my cycles are regular thats another story. I wont know that until I stop my bc pills (which I dont plan too until the end of this year).
Avatar f tn Well I too have pcos and I take metformin 500mg 2x and yasmin bc pills. I've been on the bc pills for close to 2 years and metformin i started in september 2008 (taking them everyday). Metformin is the only known drug that is given out to pcos sufferers.
Avatar f tn Yasmin is normally toe best choice for PCOS. I was on it 2 years along with Metformin. I came off of it in August 2009 and started having regular periods on my own. If you dont have many symptoms, can I ask why you need birth control? Are your periods irregular? Too much bleeding? Just wondering, because if your periods are normal...then you don't need birth control. Maybe Metformin, as it helped with my cycles.
Avatar f tn I am only 14 and I have been diagnosed with PCOS. I'm usually a fun, energetic person but learning that I have PCOS has worried me slightly. Is there anyone else young who has this problem as well?
193609 tn?1292180293 Your doctor didnt give you anything to jump start ur period? Or place u on bc pills? I take metformin 500mg 2x and yasmin bc pills. I hope by end of this year i will discontinue bc pills and ttc next yr.
Avatar f tn Try Yasmin (and if you cant take hormones, try the Copper IUD). Yasmin works well with PCOS, plus you can still lose wegith while on Yasmin. Your PCOS is causing your abnormal bleeding. You could also have cysts too. Have you had an ultrasound recently?
Avatar n tn I'm sorry I don't know how the metformin and birth control do together but I also have PCOS and am on metformin. I haven't been on the metformin too long yet but I definitely think it helps. I have found that with PCOS though the only way I have been able to lose any weight is in cutting carbs. I hope this helps. Good Luck.
587778 tn?1261397118 Well I'm on both side of the fences now. I was taking birth control (yasmin) along with Metformin. I took bc for a little over a year on it's own and had no problems. Then in September 2008 I started Metformin 500mg 1x a day along with my bcp. In Jan 2009 I upped the dose of Metformin to 2x a day per my doctor. I stopped my bcp in August 2009 and now am just taking Metormin 500mg 2x a day. So far it seems to be working on it's own.
Avatar f tn Any reason why your doctor didn't put you on meds? I take metformin and yasmin birth control to regulate my period. You have to go back to your doctor for treatment. You cannot let pcos go untreated.
Avatar f tn Hello new to site...been struggling with PCOS for last 8ys. Have been diagnosed and treated only with BC until that made me gain sooo much weight now..nothing. I found this http://pcos.insulitelabs.com/ on the web and was really interested in trying. It really sounds great. Has anyone tried?
801413 tn?1333539276 I also was diagnosed with pcos about 3 yrs ago. My RE started me on metformin and clomid as well, I just finished my 2nd cycle of clomid I'm on CD15.
1447404 tn?1284604228 Sleepiness is not a side affect of metformin. And also, not every woman who has PCOS has diabetes. As far has the birth control, it did lighten my period and made it shorter as well. I never had breakthrough bleeding with it. My body reacts to medications very well...I've never had any bad side affects from anything I took.
Avatar f tn The acutally shot did not cause you to have PCOS. I too have PCOS. I take Metformin 500mg 2x. I also lost just over 50lbs in a year. I would have liked it to be more, but family issues have caused emotional eating. I was always on birth control (yasmin) for 2 years. I stopped taking them in August and had a normal flow 8/30-8/31. Currently I am waiting for my next cycle to start. I'm not sure if I ovulate now, but I have some supscion that I did atleast in August.
Avatar n tn s anyone else out there who has the two symptoms I have that are not common to PCOS. That is, does anyone have PCOS and is thin? Do you have PCOS and you get your periods like every two weeks? If you are I want to know if you know anything I don't...
957923 tn?1246732553 Hi, i can't take bc pills either, my doctor put me on metformin. like you i have high bp but i don't have periods without meds, other than that i don't fit pcos. ask your doc about metformin (glucophage), it made me feel a lot better. good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi, I wanted to let you know that I can relate. I have tried 5 different BCP's and they make me feel psychotic and physically sick. I have PCOS also. I was given a new prescription for Yasmin and Metformin in January despite my concerns over the BCP's. So, I made a decision to only take the Metformin. For me, Metformin has been a miracle drug! Within 2 weeks, I had energy and less hair growth! The first 2 months I had perfect 28 day cycles that were non-painful and light.
Avatar n tn The excess hair on the face can be reduced by the laser hair removal...however, I do not think any insurance will cover the cost of it seeing they have it listed under "cosmetic". I've heard of hair removal creams I think it's called Vanic (sp?). That can be given by a dermotolgist. Metformin should help, it's one of the most common given medications for those who have PCOS. I take that along with Yasmin bc.
Avatar f tn I have a serious question. I have PCOS and have been on clomid, femara, metformin etc. now my doctor wants to put me on birth control, which what ever, nothing else has worked why not try it again. But my concern is the type of birth control that it is. YAZ!!! I have done very little research about it but what I have found shows that there are more people out there that have negative things to say about it.
Avatar f tn I take Metformin and Yasmin birth control pills. Both will help with the discharge and over time the Metformin can help to normalize your cycle. Are you of normal or over weight? I only ask this because when your overweight and you lose about 10% of your current body weight, the symptoms of PCOS dramically go lower. I lost about 60 lbs, stopped taking my BC and had 6 normal periods pill free.
797256 tn?1237636468 I think you should a GYN. Family doctors generally dont know much about PCOS (mine didn't). You should start metformin, but not a high dose. Can you take any type of birth control? Im on yasmin pills and they are a low dose pill. I never once got sick taking them and never had breakthrough bleeding. Good luck!!!
Avatar f tn Both Alesse and Yasmin are good for PCOS. I have been prescribed both by different PCOS specialists. I've been told that Yasmin (in combination with aldactone and propecia) is particularly good for combatting hair loss. Depending on your symptoms, you should go with the one that makes you feel best.
Avatar n tn i was having exactly the same problem until my doc put me on yasmin and metformin. it worked wonders. Try to exercise atleast 30min per day, it will be of great help. i took yasmin for nearly one year then stopped(my periods were regular while taking yasmin), got pregnant after 2months of stopping yasmin, but unfortunately it was ectopic and so i lost it. i would advice you to be careful once you stop yasmin. Also i was taking caltrate(vitaminD+calcium) tablets once a day.
710170 tn?1229237415 i also have pcos. im on yasmin bc pills (no side side affects) and also take metformin 500mg 1x a day since 9/14. to this date i have lost 34.5lbs and starting to feel better. u dont have to join any special gym or diet, just do it on your own like me. i started walking alot more and limited the amount of sweets and junk food and cut out regular soda. the only way pcos will get better is by losing weight.
Avatar f tn That could be another thing to cause no period. Anyways, the top treatment for pcos is Metformin and birth control pills. Most of us who have pcos, take this. It's mainly (metformin) used for diabetes but it has a known effect to help us with our pcos symptoms. It can in over time, can cause you to have a regular and normal cycle. I take that along with Yasmin bc. It helps. I know you may not want to take pills, but unfortunately having pcos will cause you to.
550937 tn?1215383386 I was disgnosed in 2004, put on metformin and Yasmin ( I didn't want to get pregnant at the time). I stopped Yasmin 3 months before I wanted to start trying, It took 3 months, but got pregnant with my now 2 year old son. I was on Metformin up to the 16th week and them went off and had a wonderful baby boy. I think the key for me was trying to get my cycles going, taking prenatals and watching my diet.
Avatar f tn I took Yasmin for 5 years I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago.. I have been off for almost 2 years trying to concieve. Yasmin does help..my face was completely clear and had no hair growth.. since being off my acne has just gotten worse each month. Give it a try..it took a few months but it got extremely clear.
