Common Questions and Answers about Metformin with clomid

glucophage

Avatar f tn Metformin and clomid both are good drugs. Metformin will help normalise your hormones and clomid helps with induction of ovulation. This can be taken for 3 to 6 months. If there are no results then you will need further evaluation and treatment by an infertility expert. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
Avatar f tn I have PCOS and diabetes, and have been trying for 5 years. I've been on Metformin prior to even ttc. I've also tried Clomid and then had to stop the Clomid because it caused cyst. Unfortunately every person is different so there is no set answer to give you. Best of luck!!!
Avatar f tn Hello, I too have PCOS and insulin resistance. I was on clomid but still not ovulating for several months. My endocrinologist put me on metformin as well and both my doctors agreed it might help with conception. I was also told to cut out simple carbs and refined sugar. After 3 months of metformin and monthly clomid cycles I finally ovulated in August. And amazingly I conceived the same month. Just had my first prenatal visit and saw the heartbeat yesterday!
1801238 tn?1316477007 I got pregnant the first month that I took metformin with out clomid but it was a tubal pregnancy and had to be removed. I am now pregnant again from the combination. I know metformin, without insurance at Walmart is only $5 for a months prescription. If you can afford to go to the doctor once more for this it might help! Metformin (Glucophage) helps to regulate your insulin allowing the release of female horomones which helps you to ovulate. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn can you take Metformin an Provera together? what about Clomid? Me and my husband are just so ready for a baby we have been trying for 2 years.
Avatar f tn I ended up get preg just by taking the metformin...If u dont want to take the clomid I would stay on the metformin and test next month for ouvlation... I have oulated without the clomid...
1360237 tn?1351816181 and How many people started to on 150mg.
Avatar f tn took clomid for 2 cycles and nothing now the doc put me on clomid with metformin and i wanted to know if the chances of conceiving are higher any success stories and if so how long did it take
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS. At first I was happy to finally know why I hadn't ever been pregnant. I started with clomid but I didn't work for me. I tried metformin but I was sick and stopped taking it. I started going to a fertility center with the little money I had. I did the blood work and I had to get my tubes checked but had to cancel the appointment twice. I was at my breaking point thinking it would never happen. Couple months after I noticed my appetite was changing.
801413 tn?1333539276 I also was diagnosed with pcos about 3 yrs ago. My RE started me on metformin and clomid as well, I just finished my 2nd cycle of clomid I'm on CD15.
494640 tn?1262737989 Studies have shown that women with pcos respond well with metformin and clomid, but of course each women is different. There is lots of great info out there on pcos and metformin.
Avatar f tn I got pregnant with my now 3 month old on clomid. I also used a drug called metformin as well. It took 4 months but it worked! I also have pcos. Just so u know the side effects of clomid are awful!!!!
462793 tn?1206642873 i still haven't ovulated and getting very depressed. i just don't understand. should i let my doctor know i am still not ovulating and see if he wants to put me on something else before finishing my 6 mth cycle of clomid and metformin? it sounds like some people it does work, but it doesn't look that way for me. i have very irregular periods so i am on provera too to start my period. does any one has storeis about that?
Avatar f tn Right now im on prometrium to induced this 70 day cycle and then I start metformin. Once all the testing is done i'll be going to see my RE and talking about possible fertility treatments to induce ovulation. Ive heard clomid is good, other says femera is better. Id like to know all your opinions. And also I did ovulate on my own and had a normal-ish cycle in june it was 39 days and ovulated on CD 27. Is that somewhat a good sign? And could metformin alone possibly help me ovulate?
415867 tn?1323365503 if you want to increase your chances you should try taking clomid with metformin. and if you dont get a period on your own you should get on provera to keep your linning just right.
1702722 tn?1307308558 I was on metformin 1500mg for about 8 months before I got pregnant. But my first cycle with clomid and metformin and IUI I got pregnant. The metformin made me ovulate more (3 follicles) so I think it upped the chance. I used clomid and metformin w/o IUI and had no success. I'd give the metfomin a few months before you try something new - it will start working!
Avatar f tn my dr said that it has nothing to do with the clomid or metformin.... so this month, once i get my period, i will start clomid again..... good luck!
1582478 tn?1296591223 Hi hun first what metformin does is regulates your hormone levels which for some women helps you start you period and in time helps with ovulation! So yes metformin will help you get pregnant!! In fact if you read the package insert it says to use protection if you don't want to be pregnant. Recent studies show that metformin alone is just as effective over time at inducing ovulation as clomid and metformin combined.
1302038 tn?1439575232 t think it had anything to do with the Metformin. The second time I got pregnant was with Metformin and Clomid, but it was a tubal pregnancy and I lost my left filopian tube. Turns out, Clomid may have actually caused the tubal pregnancy. There is a reason doctors don't just hand the drug out and your doctor probably knows what is best for your health. Just take it in to consideration. I wish I had known all the risks before taking it.
Avatar f tn s have experienced in clomid and if anyone with pcos has been successful ttc on it. Any feedback helps!!
Avatar f tn HI, Induction of ovulation with clomid will give results in women with PCOS. However it is necessary to confirm the patency of fallopian tubes to ensure success. Can be taken for 2 to 3 months and then reviewed if no results. Consult an infertility expert in case of difficulty. Hope this helps.
327405 tn?1223239755 Hi ladies, I am on 1,000 mg of Metformin daily 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg at night. I was diagnosed with PCOS this summer and have been on the medication ever since. The Metformin has been inducing my period but I am still having trouble conceiving. Also, I track my ovulation and I'm not always ovulating even with my induced period. I have been told that clomid is a better option for women in my circumstances. I spoke to my doctor and she's not willing to prescribe it for me.

294806 tn?1238157300 I was not ovulating on my own with PCOS...it depends on a person I guess...so I was prescribed Metformin and then ovulation drugs (clomid, follistim) to get me to ovulate..I am currently pregnant, so all you need is a little push!! Justso that you know, it might take a while though...maybe a year before you actually get pregnant, but you will, don't worry!
435139 tn?1255460391 I don't have pcos, or endometriosis or diabetes but I have been ttc for almost a year and I am trying to research some things to talk to my doctor about when I go on Friday...I brought up Clomid but my dr. didn't like that idea and my friend said that her doctor put her on metformin (she has pcos though) and if not pregnant in a couple months, she is going on clomid...Does Metformin help you get pregnant?
506810 tn?1210691647 ) I was diagnosed with PCOS last January and started metformin and provera (to start my period). I just took clomid a couple weeks ago on days 3-7. My doctor said i had like 20 follicles but none were mature. Does anyone know a reason why they didn't mature? So now she took me off of metformin and I just started avandia. And wheneveer I start my next period she's gonna put me on Femara and an hcg shot. Has anyone had any success with any of these meds??!!
1519983 tn?1401046428 Hello All fellow ladies TTC with PCOS. I am on CD4, and started my first cycle of clomid yesterday. I have been very moody, but besides the mood swings, I have had no symptoms. I am also taking 850 MG of Metformin twice a day, which is something different then when I did the 3 cycles at the end of '09. I'm hoping the 100mg of clomid gets me to O this time. So far I have had no proof in my life of Oing before. I also started taking my BBT this morning. Hoping this helps as well.
