metformin while pregnant

It's very possible to become pregnant while being overweight, although I don't recommend it. Being pregnant can be incredibly hard on the body. The way my midwife and Bradley Method coach said it is that you're basically training for a marathon. Having a fit and healthy body not only helps you during pregnancy, but helps your baby too. I'm considered overweight right now being 5'1 and 157lbs (and that's after losing some weight too).

Anyone else taking meds while pregnant, such as Metformin (Glucophage) or Prometrium (progesterone)?! When were you told you could stop? I'll be running out of Metformin in a few days (I'll be over 11 weeks so not worried about it) and I was going to take the Prometrium up until week 12 (April 7th) but not sure if I should. Should I stop now? I don't want to stop and then miscarry because I didn't hold out another week.

I am currently pregnant, but not on metformin. my doctor and i did talk about going on it while I was trying to get pregnant and they said if i did get pregnant while on it, it is best to stay on till between 16-20 weeks, but it does sound like it is very subjective by Dr, maybe do a little research on your own!

Anyone else experiencing weight gaine while TTC. I know have bit a bit stressed and maybe depressed somewhat over all this, but I have gained 5lbs in one month! I feel so sad all the time and I'm not as enthused about exercising:( Is this common? I have to get the 5lbs off...I can't gain another 5 next month!!!

i have been on metformin for a year at 1500mg per day and still nothing. My biggest fear is maybe I should just give up on my dream of having a big family and just go with what i have now. How bad is your PCOS. maybe my doctor misdiagnosed me or something. Although i have been to 10 doctors and they all same thing but maybe there is something else wrong.

Anyone know if this drug is safe to take while pregnant. If any issues about drug please post....

There are so many women on this website that has pcos and had success in getting pregnant. Some naturally and some with clomid metformin or femera metformin combos. Have you had a HSG test? This will help to see if your tubes are blocked. Some women with pcos even became preg after having this procedure done. I cant believe that Dr told u that!! I had one doc tell me to loose weight and it will happen and I was pissed for that cause if it was that easy I would be a size 6!!

Did anyone else get pregnant while taking me form in for fertility? If so are yu still taking them throughout the pregnancy?

I was wondering if there is a chance I could get pregnant on it.. I have been trying to conceive for 2 years now. I had stopped taking metformin for awhile because of my stomach hurting when I took it and now I am on 1000mg a day. Any advice is much appreciated. Do you think it will work or what should my next step be?

We have gotten pregnant while taking metformin (we had to do many IUI's and take other medications after learning i had a clotting disorder that was causing us trouble concieving and miscarrying, in addition to PCOS). We are almost 33 weeks pregnant currently, and i have been taking metformin the entire pregnancy- usually they take you off the metformin at around 12 weeks or so..

hi kani_14 firstly i have two daughters but it took me a while to fall pregnant due to pcos,so please dont give up,,, i did a lot of research on metformin and the effects it has during pregnancy and there is no know evidence to say that metformin will harm a baby, so keep taking the metformin im sure things will improve kind regards deb

My husband and I have been trying to concieve for quite a while and so far nothing. :( I have however lost some weight which is very good considering I was weighing 220 at only 5 feet tall . Well, most of the ladies on here who have gotten pregnant while on metformin only, have lost weight...which in theory can sometimes reverse the symptoms of pcos. Some women are told that metformin will help induce ovulation...although I have asked my Gyn this question and he advised me that is not the case (but every doctor has their own views). If you are overweight, and of course taking metformin you should start losing weight along with diet.

I have Pcos and got pregnant with LB with the help of metformin. I am anxious to concevie again but have been told by my doctor that I will need a combination of clomid and metformin. Has anyone done both and been effective while breastfeeding ? .

Metformin is known to be given to women who have pcos. I too take 500mg 2X since Jan 2009, but im also on the pill too. While taking metformin which I started in September 2008, I have lost 49lbs so far. I would call your doctor to see why your period is late, and maybe see if you can get a blood test done to check for pregnancy. If ur not pregnant, then most likly you need Provera to jump start ur period, and if ur not ovulating then u need Clomid or another type of drug.

Metformin will not help you get pregnant! Its can help regulate your period and help keep you pregnant because us women with pcos have a higher risk of miscarrying! Clomid and help you ovulate or help you have better eggs if you ovulate on your own! I started taking metformin this month and I has little side effects from it! I will be taking 2 pills a day starting tomorrow. You should take the clomid if your doc thinks its a good idea and will help you!

i have been on metformin for a while now and now my periods are regular. i am still not pregnant but at least my periods are regular. metformin only helps with regularizing your period.

However, in a study of women who took Metformin while pregnant only 8.8% of them suffered miscarriages while the non-Metformin group suffered miscarriages at a rate of 41.9%. In the same study, 11.1% of the Metformin group who suffered miscarriages had miscarried before while 58.3% of the non-Metformin group who suffered miscarriages had miscarried before.

Symptoms do not last that long while on Metformin. Were you on a diet while taking it? It is known if you eat high fat content of foods it will make the side effects worst. Other then metformin, I'm not sure what else there is. Did you ease into taking it? I took 500mg 1x a day for 4 months, then I was upped to 2x a day ever since. Might want to give it another chance.
