Avatar n tn I was just dx with PCOS last week and put on Metformin, the same meds. and dosage my husband is on for diabetes. You have to take it with food. AND... follow a lower carb diet. Carbs can make you feel sick and get the runs if your taking Metformin. I am taking 1500mg, 500mgs 3xs a day. Always with food or milk. Did your DR prescribe folic acid with that. I'm taking 4 - 1mg tabs aday. When I was taking it in the morning with the Metformin I would feel sicker.
Avatar n tn The doctor then put me on Metformin. I have been on Metformin for almost a year now and my dose was increased from 500mg to 1000mg a day. I am have several dry skin, my hair keeps falling off, and diarrhea. But one thing I don't understand is that since I have been on Metformin for so long, it does keep sort of regulate my period every month. But my testosterone and triglycerides are still high. Now, I have to deal with this sort of kidney pain and back pain everyday.
Avatar f tn Hi, I just started taking Metformin for my new diagnosed Diabetes 2 and today right around lunch time i started feeling really shaky and just overall weird. Is that the deabetes or the meds?
Avatar f tn Weight reduction must be the first thing to be done if you are overweight. Metformin may also give good results. Symptomatic treatment for hirsuitism or induction of ovulation may be done as per the requirement. Consult a gynaecologist and an endocrinologist for an opinion. Hope this helps.
317787 tn?1473358451 I treated over two years ago for HCV and am now cured. About 6 weeks ago I started taking Metformin for Diabetes Type 2. I was a little concerned to take it since my liver is damaged but was told the benefits outweighed the benefits. For the first couple of weeks the side effects were really bad as far as gastrointestinal disorder. I called the doctor and she said that this was normal and to give it time, I would adjust.
Avatar f tn How many of you have already developed diabetes? Does everyone with PCOS develop diabetes and, if so, when? At what age? I'm taking Metformin, Spironolactone and Yasmin everyday. I also have a very health diet, with roughly 120 - 140 gr carbs per day. I have a normal weight of about 55 kg at 165 cm. Even so I get hypoglycemic spells once in a while - with all the symptoms, cold sweat, blurred vision, trembling, faintness etc...
Avatar n tn I am taking Metformin at 3000mgm per day for diabetes and I have pains in my lower chest is this related?
Avatar m tn because your doctors conviniently not to mention to you that all oral diabetes medicines, including Metformin, only works for some years and even expensive and painful Insulin dosage will loose their effectiveness over the years. Now, to save yourself from this horrible disease, immediately reduce your carb to (6,12,12). Read this book : Diabetes Solutions by DR. Richard Beirstein , and log onto this website: diabetesdaily.
Avatar m tn Granted he takes (4) 500 mg per day. Wondering if even low doses of Metformin would make someone without IR or diabetes hypoglycemic and if not would low dose Metformin be effective is halting virus replication.
Avatar n tn Bitter melon is mainly used by ppl of Chinese or Phillipine ancestry so maybe someone will chime in about this melon. I know a family that uses it for alot of different ailments including diabetes. Here's a clip off of Pubmed. Effect of bitter gourd and spent turmeric on constituents of glycosaminoglycans in different tissues in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Kumar GS, Vijayalakshmi B, Salimath PV.
Avatar f tn Being a dibitc doesn't always affect peing prego. If you're healthy so will ur baby. I was told to stop if/when I become prego. Ask ur doctor before stopping.
Avatar f tn Everything I have read on the issue says that taking Metformin while you are pregnant can help with early miscarriage, gestational diabetes, and a whole list of other problems that could possibly arise. I could really use a second opinion! Thanks!
1888358 tn?1320969676 Hi there, Do you know your last 2 A1C numbers? If not buy a self test kit for A1C called A1C NOW, made by Bayer, available at Wal-Marts or Walsgreen, the price is less than $30.This kit is very reliable. I had Diabetes 2 symptoms more than 20 yrs ago , now I don't have any complications from T2 any longer by keeping my A1C less than 6%. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Avatar f tn I have to agree. I've taken Metformin for several years for my Diabetes and have had stomach issues every once in a while. I've also taken Zyprexa, which added pounds for me.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking metformin once a day as a preventive for diabetes- (had gestational diabetes but not diabetic now). No other medications. Should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn Metformin, like other medications, can cause a fair number of gastric issues. If you're not watching the fat in your diet, this med in addition to fat in the diet (after having your GB removed) can cause problems such as those you're mentioning. If you are consuming fats, try cutting back and see if that's of help.
Avatar n tn 060) - dr is saying that he does not think I have diabetes at all, and he wants to withdraw the Metformin. (I am in Canada if that makes a dif in reults). My question is - isn't my A1C good BECAUSE I take the Metformin? I mean, isn't that what its for - to get back within range with blood sugars? Does this result say to YOU that I do not have diabetes after all? What will happen to me if he withdraws the Metformin?
Avatar f tn I have type 2 diabetes and I take 2000mg of metformin...but it hurts my stomach something terrible...i stay in the bathroom I stopped taking it but I know I have to start back because I don't want to have to take insulin because it is/was helping me..what can I do for the stomach pain and toilet runs.
Avatar n tn It is also a new practice (Joslin diabetes center - one of the world'sleading diabetes management and research centres) to start all persons with diabetes on insulin instead of oral meds. Glipizide is a drug that makes your pancreas put out more insulin so it can cause lows. It can also make your pancreas burn out faster. So do research this and consider stopping this drug (in coordination with your Dr.) Metformin does not have this effect. So you can ask your Dr.
Avatar f tn The role of metformin in ovulation induction is well established, and several studies have demonstrated that women with PCOS are more likely to ovulate with metformin than with placebo alone.[2, 4] Therefore, women with PCOS often conceive while on metformin, and exposure during organogenesis is common. At present, metformin is classified as Class B in pregnancy, with no evidence of animal or fetal toxicity or teratogenicity.
Avatar n tn (5) In this study, 3,234 non-diabetics with elevated blood glucose were given metformin, placebo, or lifestyle recommendations. The incidence of diabetes in the metformin group was 31% less than in the placebo group. RESTORATION OF NORMAL MENSTRUAL CYCLE. A number of studies have shown that menstruation can be restored in many women with PCOS. Avatar f tn Decreasing the amount of sugar produced by the liver. Increasing the amount of sugar absorbed by muscle cells and decreasing the body's resistance to insulin (insulin resistance). When blood sugar is lower, less insulin is needed, so the body makes less insulin. And when insulin is lower, the body produces a lower level of androgens.
1304588 tn?1299071471 Yes, Metformin is used to control and regulate ovulation too, and it's very effective, in my case, it was metformin, without any other pill. And by God's grace I'm 30 weeks gone..
