It sounds like they think you have PCOS. Metformin is commonly used for that to regulate your cycles so that you can ovulate without any other drugs. I know I was on it for 6 months and it didn't work for me but my cycles were off from a bad miscarriage. They figure I should have had a D&C but they lost my referral to the OB so it wasn't done. I had a HSG and they think that cleared out whatever was remaining from the miscarriage. The following month I got pregnant. 17wks now.

Hi there. I am about to start metformin for my PCOS next week at the start of my new cycle. Will this help me to ovulate and help improve my chances of conceiving? We are trying for baby number two, this will be our ninth month. I was put on clomid 50mg to help us conceive our first baby two years ago. My transvaginal sonogram showed i have PCOS on my left ovary, but my right ovary was clear. I also have a tilted uterus. Would this hinder our chances of conceiving?

Hi, I dont think Metformin is the cause for your problem. I have used it for more than 3 months and did not have any problem during AF. I have PCOS and hence metformin was prescribed for insulin resistance. btw why were you taking metformin?

Metformin helps regulate insulin levels so that the person can regulate their period and help with ovulation which is difficult in women with PCOS or even impossible for some without help with medicine. Metformin also helps a woman with PCOS have less of a risk for miscarriage (which is common with PCOS) especially if taken during the first trimester. Some woman cannot be helped with Metformin alone or it may not help at all. Clomid is often used with or without Metformin with women with PCOS.

m on Metformin for PCOS so I emailed Life Extension, the company where I buy my vitamins and asked them if it was okay to take both. I haven't heard back yet though.

i was put on provera for 10 days not 5. I have been on metformin since feb 5,2013 for pcos. i have not had a period since jan 17.

I have been on Metformin for many years now (for fertility reasons). I think its the best. I am on my 6th IVF (and I hope it works this time!). One of my fertility doctors took me off metformin for 3 of my ivf tries and the results were much much worse. From everything I have read, it seems that metformin is a safe medication and you can stay on it all through your pregnancy (unless you have liver issues).

I'm taking the for PCOS I started taking 1 daily for 2 weeks, now I'm taking 2 daily for another 2 weeks then I'm up to 3 daily for the rest of my life.

I'm also 32 and have PCOS. I took metformin for awhile, but it didn't help at all. So don't be worried that you can't take it. We were finally able to get pregnant after doing fertility treatments, so it IS possible! For sure! I'm currently 21 weeks along. Metformin is the best for helping PCOS patients with AF. I had three periods in one year and finally went to my doc. He gave me metformin and I got pregnant first try. It was an eptoic and I have other horomone issues but it has regulated my periods and helped me ovulate. Talk to your doctor about this medicine because it really helps.
