Avatar n tn t) and that some people just have irregular cycles. My doctor put me on Metformin 500 mg twice a day then upped it to 850 mg twice a day. Within 6 months I was pregnant and had a healthy baby boy this last November. After 6 weeks postpartum, I was put back on the metformin same dosage and Yaz birth control pills. I've just started a low carb diet to try to lose the pregnancy weight.
422891 tn?1315179920 t have any pms symptoms this month and I am due on the 14th. I did list symptoms from last month. I have been feeling weird for the last two weeks but as far as my normal pms symptoms I don't have!
Avatar f tn I take Metformin and Victoza (which I think is a miracle drug). Metformin, by the way, I just found out, has beneficial effects for the liver. It tends to retard HCV replication. Good luck to you. I remember when my diabetes was first diagnosed I could barely function and had to prop my eyes open with diet pop all the time.
Avatar f tn first ill give you a wee bit of background about me me and me partner have been ttc since the beginning of april, i have pcos so my periods have generally been here there and everywhere, since april my doc put me on metformin and it has brought my period from being almost every 2 months to 28 day for the past two month, dont know if its a fluck.
1179632 tn?1263935878 I came off the birth control in August 2009, and since then I keep having my cycle everything month around 28-32 days. Metformin is the only known drug of choice that doctors most prescribe for the symptoms of pcos. Also, when you do get pregnant metformin helps to reduce the risks of miscarriages in those with pcos. Normally it is taken up to the 20th week of pregnancy. Good luck, and continue metformin. I never had any bad side affects with it...
Avatar m tn i have all the symptons the majorrr weight gain, excess hair growth, acne, and thinning hair. Will metformin help all my symptoms?
Avatar n tn One person said to me I have diabetes because I am taking metformin. I said, no, I do not have diabetes, I do not have any symptoms at all. I believe I have high blood sugar but unrelated to a diagnosis of diabetes. Is there any definitive, all inclusive explanation for all of this?
Avatar m tn increased sleepiness or unexplained lethargy, weakness, decreased or slowed heart rate, cold sensations, stomach pains, or FEELING LIGHT HEADED or have fainted either before or after taking Metformin she could be showing some of the symptoms of lactic acidosis. This is a dangerous syndrome and requires immediate medical attention. Contact her doctor and inform him/her of your mother's situation asap.
1500387 tn?1460740020 As indicated above, numerous studies found Metformin to be helpful in resolving many of the major symptoms of PCOS. No other drug is currently available for the treatment of PCOS. If you are suffering from PCOS or insulin resistance, talk to you health care provider about Metformin.
992128 tn?1364371742 Just wondering if anyone not having periods started when you used metformin? How long did it take? I am not overweight.
Avatar f tn This is something you should discuss with your Pharmacist as dose, duration/length of time taken, and type of Metformin may have contributing factors.
Avatar f tn Maybe I am being your typically over-worried mother here, but I am wondering if there are any concerns about being on Metformin when you have the flu. My 20 year-old daughter has been on Metformin for PCOS for two years. She is showing symptoms of the flu, and to make it harder on me, she's on an internship in Florida, so I can't even "see" the symptoms. She tells me she has fever, headache, sore throat, dizziness, vomiting, and general achiness.
801413 tn?1333539276 Do you know if you are ovulating? Its good your cycles seem regular for you. If your not ovulating you may need to take Metformin and Clomid or Fermera. I haven't read too much about just conceiving on metformin (unless your ovulating correctly).
Avatar f tn 5mg dose of Olanzapine daily, and along with it has advised me to take 500mg of Metformin three times daily. I was only taking the Metformin twice daily, but because I have gained a few pounds, my doctor thought it I should take more. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence that since taking three I have had a persistent headache, have been generally sick to my stomach, and just not feeling well.
Avatar m tn Thanks for answering, Just to clarify, I take high sugar foods OR I take metformin. Not both at the same time. I think metformin mostly helps with insulin resistance (and it doesnt lower the sugars since they are already normal). My sugars are OK even when I am not taking metformin. They get high from 5.5 to 8 when I eat, but they drop back to 6 or 5, 2 hours after eating. The sugar levels during the shaking and weakness episodes are 4.5 to 5.
714128 tn?1249136386 Well after I got off the phone with the nurse I called the pharmacy who said my symptoms do sound like low blood sugar and that metformin can definitly effect your blood sugar. Of course the pharmacy told me they couldnt tell me not to take the medicine or even what I should do and my doctor wasnt going to be back until Monday. Well I took the medice on Friday as always and felt awful and then Saturday I didnt take it at all and felt amazing!
Avatar f tn I had diarrhea with metformin and even months after stopping metformin ibstill had diarrhea. My doctor switched me to januvia. Am so much better and sugar is controlled. Im not saying this is the solution. Im just sharing my experience with metformin. I agree with sally, see your doctor asap.
Avatar n tn Symptoms do not last that long while on Metformin. Were you on a diet while taking it? It is known if you eat high fat content of foods it will make the side effects worst. Other then metformin, I'm not sure what else there is. Did you ease into taking it? I took 500mg 1x a day for 4 months, then I was upped to 2x a day ever since. Might want to give it another chance.
Avatar f tn and put on Metformin. I have been on this medication for a little over a week, and I have noticed that I am starting to have a difficult time concentrating and am always fall asleep while standing tired. I am also getting light headed and dizzy even when my sugars are within acceptable range. Do these side effects go away with time or are they things I need to discuss with my doctor when I see him next.
393893 tn?1283551230 Hi ladies. have any of you ever had to take metformin? I have been on it only a week now but my body is doing weird things and it is a bit unsettling. At first I thought what I was experiencing was normal but I was researching metformin on line and it said if you have any of these certain symptoms to get emergency medical attention right away because it can be life threatning. It named off many side effects that were normal and were not normal. I had both.
Avatar n tn When you're having any kind of diuretics, it is always possible to have low sodium, low potassium, low Mg (those must be controled). About the side efects, all have, but Actos can give chest pain (general ill feeling), feeling short of breath, blurred vision. Actos is an oral diabetes medicine that help control blood sugar levels. These are serious allergic signs.
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with PCOS? That, too, causes similar symptoms as hypothyroidism. Metformin is often used to treat PCOS. Not familiar with Ray Peat's dietary suggestions; will look into it.
Avatar f tn While I was on it I lost weight my monthly cycle was regular. Some time later my symptoms re-occurred. I began taking Metformin XR (slow release) and suffered no side effects. However, my symptoms are getting worse and the medication is not helping. I am on a low fat low carb diet and get regular exercise daily. Nothing seems to work and my weight is ever increasing. It's something I need to get on top of as there is a strong history of diabetes in my family.
