She put me on Metformin and my question's are What effect will this have on me and my body as I am not diabetic and if I take this and get pregnant what effects may this drug have on the baby?
957923 tn?1246732553 Hi, i can't take bc pills either, my doctor put me on metformin. like you i have high bp but i don't have periods without meds, other than that i don't fit pcos. ask your doc about metformin (glucophage), it made me feel a lot better. good luck.
475740 tn?1208262865 I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
Avatar m tn It was actually the pre-surgery screening that caused the A1C test to occur. On top of that, for 10 days about 6 weeks ago I was on Prednisone. The docs seem to be discounting all that and believe the A1C still to be accurate. At the office, my first reading 2 hours after breakfast was 132. I've been testing upon waking, before dinner, 2 hours after dinner and getting: 105 or so waking, 95-100 before dinner, 130-135 2 hours after dinner. These all seem normal to me.
Avatar n tn My ob/gyn told me I needed to choose between bc pill and ovarian drilling surgery to reduce the cysts on my ovaries. I chose to start with the pill. Did I make the right choice? I am 37, had 3 mc, 1 DD, and 1 ectopic all conceived on clomid.

Avatar f tn Is your spelling correct? Colonoscopy is an exam using a camera. Colonostomy is major surgery involving abdomens, intestines, holes and plastic bags that need changing periodically.

Avatar f tn My husband and I are ttc. Back in April of this year I had surgery to remove cysts from mybtube. I had been on depo since December of 14 and once I stopped august of 16 I never had a cycle. Long story short I had the surgery thinking that's why my cycle was non existent. Non the less I never had a cycle.. My on/gyn prescribed me a round of provera 10 day I had a cycle 3 days after stopping. But didn't have one the following month.
Avatar f tn hi, im concerned about my results with my hsg test. are my chances still high to conceive if my results were clear of blockage from my tubes??? i was also wondering if talking clomid & metformin er will help with the process??? and how should i take metformin??? should i start clomid and metformin together or finish clomid and then start metformin??? is there a particular way to take the combo medication??? i really need to get this clear. im so confused! your help will mean the world to me.
Avatar f tn Well I was diag with PCOS when I was 16. Was on Metformin for a while, but then had Gastric Bypass surgery..lost alot of weight...275+. I stop taking metformin because my docs were just not telling me to take it anymore. Well now I am married and TTC. Last year I got prego all by myself. Unfor. I m/c at 7 months. Now, I am eating healthy, walking on long walk with my dogs, and taking CARE OF MYSELF! I am on Metformin 500 mg BID(twice a day).
Avatar f tn After the ectopic/surgery, I had another HCG that showed damage to the right tube-which I already knew from the lap surgery, but my left was still open, so we are able to try just with my left side. I do have blood work done to check my insilin levels. Bloodwork indicated I was insilin resistant so I started the met. About a month ago I had my levels checked and am no longer insilin resistant so the metformin is working.
Avatar f tn whats the chances of conceiving on clomid and metformin with pcos. ttc for 2 years.
Avatar f tn I took five rounds of clomid ( up to 150mg) and metformin and did not ovulate. So after having surgery I started with tamoxifen (pills) bc clomid is no good for me. But the tamoxifen didn't work very good either that's why I took follistim injections. My doctor had us do a postcoidal test, so we had sex sunday night and then went to my RE monday morning and he took a small sample of my cervical mucus to see how many sperm survived the night.
1302038 tn?1439575232 t think it had anything to do with the Metformin. The second time I got pregnant was with Metformin and Clomid, but it was a tubal pregnancy and I lost my left filopian tube. Turns out, Clomid may have actually caused the tubal pregnancy. There is a reason doctors don't just hand the drug out and your doctor probably knows what is best for your health. Just take it in to consideration. I wish I had known all the risks before taking it.
594189 tn?1386916607 congratulations! i am pregnant with child 2 and have had PCOS, endometriosis and a bicornate uterus and cervix (2 of each). I was told by 3 ob/gyn and 2 family doctors it would be next to impossible to get pregnant without help. Just before child #2 I was taking metformin, it's a treatment that helps my PCOS, and what a family doctor recomended trying since nothing was covered for birth control, or any other medication under my insurance in the states. It was a preexsisting condition.
Avatar f tn Definitley in the same boat. Its so depressing at times. I was given the option of clomid metformin or bc for x amount of months they stop bc and try to get pregnant. With metformin id advice you to ask your docotr to check your hormones (thyroid, th, fsh, blood insulin etc. Mie came out as my pancread pushed out more insulin then my doctor like (even though it was still in normal but "hugh normal") worst side effect i have with it is i am nausea.
626011 tn?1257279765 I'm new to this forum. So I'll introduce myself. My name is Amanda. After nearly two years of not concieving and being devasted every month. I finally went to a doctor, not awhole lot happened. She tested my progesteron and told me I needed to have hubby checked. We got it all done and it seems everything was normal. No ideas or guidance. Just that's all we can do. I got word of a specialist thats really good at doing what he does. So Tuesday the 11th I had my first appointment.

Avatar f tn I have PCOS and lately did a laproscopic surgery for that. I ovulate late and have heard if we ovulate late, the quality of egg is very low. Can somebody give suggestions to help me ovulate early?
Avatar f tn Luckily my doctor is a fertility specialist as well, and she was able to perform the surgery 2 weeks after my diagnosis of PCOS. I would recommend the surgery to anyone TTC with a dianosis of PCOS.
Avatar f tn It depends on your particular case as to how you will be treated. For instance, I take metformin and spironolactone. These two medications work by decreasing hormones call androgens. Decreasing these androgens will decrease the ovarian cysts, acne, and hirsutism. Metformin will decrease blood sugar as well. I have also just undergone surgery to remove cysts and had an ovarian drill to, as my doctor said, give my ovary a fresh start. I find out Monday if I will be put on birth control as well.
Avatar f tn Before going on metformin my weight was 277. I was put on metformin seven months ago and things have changed alot for me I dont eat as much as I use too. I take 500 mg twice a day. I take at lunch and dinner. The weight seem to just fall off without me really doing anything like execrise. Before I was tested for being insulin resistanced I craved sugary foods like candy. I would buy bags and bags of candy, but once i started metformin all those cravings stopped.
484844 tn?1253968693 How long have you been bleeding? Has your doctor prescribed Metformin yet? You might want to check into that.
Avatar m tn I posted about this a few weeks back about Metformin and here is the whole article about it. It is very interesting that a diabetes drug has been found to combat cancer and HCV. There are probably many other drugs already approved that could also help different diseases if used "off label". Usually these things are found out by accident. http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2010/nov2010_The-Drug-Virtually-Everyone-Should-Ask-their-Doctor-About_01.
Avatar f tn Not all women with PCOS are overweight, but they say that women who are overweight have a higher chance of having this hormonal imbalence then women who are normal weight. But I have PCOS. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2007 lost about 275 pounds, and my AF came like clockwork. I was taking Metformin for my PCOS before my surgery, but after I stopped taking it. Bad idea! I started to gain some of my weight, and my AF stop coming.
