Birth control can sometimes cause weight gain...but not every woman is the same. I never had weight gain with Yasmin. Sleepiness is not a side affect of metformin. And also, not every woman who has PCOS has diabetes. As far has the birth control, it did lighten my period and made it shorter as well. I never had breakthrough bleeding with it. My body reacts to medications very well...I've never had any bad side affects from anything I took.

I did when I was 16. I was dx with PCOS at age 16, started taking it right away. I an't even begin to tell you how Metformin made me feel. The only drug i know which doesn't cause weight gain is lamotrigine. But aside from it all the AC's, lithium, AP's even AD's cause weight gain. In short all BP drugs increase weight. That's a price we pay. I recall once Oprah had a program for BP and all the guests were rather heavy weight persons.

Talk to your doctor about Metformin Extended Release, It has a lot less side effects than the regular release metformin. If you start now, when you are married and wanting kids you will already be on the right track. Taking the metformin may help you with some of the weight as well, It has for so many of us!!

Start metformin as follows, increasing the dose if and when you have no more side effects (most people only have mild side effects that ressolve within a few days). 1. Start 1/4 tablet at night 2. Increase to 1/2 tablet at night 3. Increase to 1 tablet at night 4. Increase to 1 tab at night at 1 in morning. (increase further if need be up to Max of 2 g/day). I still work out and eat right but I would do that without metformin and loose no weight. When I am on metformin I have lost some weight. Its not going to just fall off though.

I have been taking metformin for a year, off and on. Metformin can give you extra bowlmovements though and other side effects. It usually takes about 3 days to get "regular" or adjust to your body. Did you start on 1 pill? My doctor had me reduce because of allergy reaction. BM's.lol. Usually they start you on one then gradually have to work yoru way up to three maximum. If you have weight gain you should take to your doctor.

Hm, so you are diagnosed as PCOS or they just started the metformin for the reason of the adrenal gland issue? I'm trying to understand. LOL I know things that affect any part of our hormonal system will result in some mood changes. Are you taking the metformin as they intended? Have they also considered clomid? You've been working with a fertility doctor--- and done all the testing and this is the only issue they see with regards to getting pregnant?

Hi, it depends on the treatment I guess, but I don't think you should expect any weight gain. Metformin will help with weight loss - I don't have any weight to shed, but Met really helps with appetite and maintainance. I also find Yasmin (BCP) harmless in this respect: I gain weight very easily usually and struggle to maintain it off, but Yasmin never caused any problems in this respect, I'd say on the contrary.

Hi, welcome to the forum, seroquel is known to be associated with weight gain. There is significant weight gain is seen, in such cases usually other anti psychotics are prescribed. The weight gaining effect of this drug will not persist after discontinuation. Any associated condition should be looked for. If there is a change in voice (Voice becomes dusky), weight gain, intolerance to cold etc. You need to get your T3, t4 and TSH level checked as it may be in initial phase.

Symptoms do not last that long while on Metformin. Were you on a diet while taking it? It is known if you eat high fat content of foods it will make the side effects worst. Other then metformin, I'm not sure what else there is. Did you ease into taking it? I took 500mg 1x a day for 4 months, then I was upped to 2x a day ever since. Might want to give it another chance.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
