Avatar f tn Hi Ladies I just have as question about metformin whats the side effects some of you may have had? I start to take metformin today so maybe this will bring on my period. I had a natural m.c in nov 2008 and no AF as of yet.
475740 tn?1208262865 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
1888358 tn?1320969676 One common side effect of Metformin is gastronomic - nausea, upset stomach. It is advised to take Metformin with food, usually in the middle or end of meal. Metformin ER version releases the drug more slowly and this usually eliminates the gastrointestinal problems. Ask your doctor if you could try a weeks supply. Discuss with your doctor an alternative medication if Metformin ER gastro problems continue. Not everyone can tolerate the same medication, even in different forms.

"to top it all off my BG levels are still very high even with my diet." You cannot rely solely on drugs to lower your blood glucose levels.
Avatar f tn Why are you on metformin? Do you have pcos? I was on metformin too and don't remember having any side effects. I guess once it adjusts to your body you might feel better. Also, there are good chances of getting pregnant while taking clomid with metformin.
Avatar f tn Hi, for me I had bad diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, migraines and loss of appetite but the good news is it only lasted a few days and now 9 months later I have no side effects. If you are worried about the side effects ask for the extended release it is gentile on your stomach. Make sure you take it at night with dinner (if not at night with your biggest meal). I had some insomnia when i took it in the AM but when I switched to night time it went away.
Avatar f tn Hi I am 17 and I am on metformin. The side effects of the Metformin isn't bad. You do have to go to the restroom alot but thats how you can loose waight. If you get pregnant it wont hurt the baby but metformin can go threw the milk well thats what I read. You would need to talk to your doctor if you want to breast feed. What that pill does is that it reduces the surgures on the foods you eat. Just start slow. Start with 1 for a pill for a week and then 2 ang just go on.
Avatar f tn i have been lucky with metformin, no side effects. However, some folks have experienced feeling dizzy, light-headed, tired, or very weak; A call to your doctor may be prudent. Perhaps the dose is too high Nonetheless a call will put your mind at ease.

Avatar f tn I've had no side effects. Once in a while i'll have loose stool if i eat too many carbs. How is your dr. having you take it?
Avatar f tn Hm, so you are diagnosed as PCOS or they just started the metformin for the reason of the adrenal gland issue? I'm trying to understand. LOL I know things that affect any part of our hormonal system will result in some mood changes. Are you taking the metformin as they intended? Have they also considered clomid? You've been working with a fertility doctor--- and done all the testing and this is the only issue they see with regards to getting pregnant?

Avatar n tn Eating some food usually helps with these side effects. You can ask your doctor to be certain if this could help your side effects. Plus you could discuss changing meds. BTW There is a combination pill Janumet that c ombines Metformin and Januvia. This may be helpful to you as well.
Avatar f tn I've been on metformin for 4 months, and haven't lost any weight- how many mg are you on? I take 1000mg/day. I haven't gained any weight either, which is good, but I wouldn't have minded a loss ;) We're ttc, so maybe it has something to do with the clomid. I've had some bad side effects to the metformin- I take one dose at night, with the idea of sleeping through it, but a few times I've woke up with nausea and gotten sick.
Avatar f tn non fasting glucose was154 and AC1 was 6.5. He put me on metformin 250mg. Side-affects were severe headache, nausea, chest pain, stomach cramps, watery stools and insommia(34 hrs). 229439 tn?1245812437 I am going to start taking metformin tonight for my pcos. What side effects should I be expecting and what has happened with others while on this drug. I don't believe I am insulin resistant so this is weird to be taking a diabetic med for infertility.
Avatar n tn Metformin (Glucophage) must be taken with food otherwise it may cause nausea or vomiting, gas, ingestion, and abdominal discomfort leading to loss of appetite and, of course, excessive weight loss. Your mother might want to switch to the long-acting form of Metformin, called Metformin ER, which has fewer side effects in patients. Please discuss this with her doctor.
