Avatar n tn I looked up side effects for all my meds and found Topamax lists hair loss as a side effect so I have stopped taking it. Hair loss can also be due to stress, I didn't notice any hair loss until I had been on the Topamax for a while so I'm almost certain it was the Topamax. Good luck to you.
393893 tn?1283551230 ) I would definitely call your doctor and maybe a pharmacist to see what the hair loss is about. Now, I did experience some hair loss with PCOS, though, so is it possible that could be it? If you do decide to start taking the Metformin again, I would start at a very low dose and up the does every week or two.
Avatar f tn If your on metformin and if your overweight and on a diet, your symptoms will improve with weight loss. Im on metformin 500mg 1x a day plus birth control. I also take a multi viatmin and another vitamin called Super B Complex (it has a ton of vitamin in it, also it helps with hair skin and nails, well thats what it says on the bottle) I've noticed while taking everything, my symptoms are getting better. My periods use to be about 4-5 days while on bc pills, now it last 3 days.
Avatar f tn Thanks, Heather! I have stopped taking Metformin as I developed serious side affects from it, one of them is hair loss. I was supposed to take 3000 mg per day but was taking 1000 for one wk. and 2000 for the second week to avoid side effects but looks I just couldn't handle the higher dosage... I am not sure if PCOS has anything to do with HAIR LOSS but every time I take a shower, I get depressed b/c the amount of hair I loose is just heart breaking.
Avatar n tn Could Metformin cause thinning or hair loss? I started two Metformin 500 mg a day last May. Went on a locarb, no processed foods or alcohol diet. Lost 30#'s. End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss.
Avatar m tn i have all the symptons the majorrr weight gain, excess hair growth, acne, and thinning hair. Will metformin help all my symptoms?
Avatar n tn How long after taking gabapentin will the side effects last. I have hair loss. I stopped taking gabapentin about four or five months ago.
Avatar f tn I read what the publish side effect say, but it does say not all listed side effects are listed and itprovides a way to get the "complte list" I sure hope it doesn't include hair loss, I've lost enough hair already and just went on Flecainide today
Avatar f tn Can you tell me about its side effects? Recently I went for a checkup and my doctor gave me Metformin for weight loss (It suddently went up to 99 kg though I was at 85 before and was following a strict diet plan). I don't have diabetes and I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS, and I think Metformin is generally used for these two issues. So I'm concened whether I should really be Metformin. Can it mess up my insulin system?
Avatar f tn Start metformin as follows, increasing the dose if and when you have no more side effects (most people only have mild side effects that ressolve within a few days). 1. Start 1/4 tablet at night 2. Increase to 1/2 tablet at night 3. Increase to 1 tablet at night 4. Increase to 1 tab at night at 1 in morning. (increase further if need be up to Max of 2 g/day). Give the metformin 1 month trial once you are at Max dose.
Avatar n tn For the first couple of weeks as my body adjusted to the medications I did have some trouble with nausea and diarrhea. I was advised to try to eat a lower carb/high protein diet to avoid many of the greasier foods to help it. So far so good and I have lost about 50-65 lbs within a year. After those first couple of weeks the side effects seemed to go away and I was more tolerable to be around.
Avatar f tn Why are you on metformin? Do you have pcos? I was on metformin too and don't remember having any side effects. I guess once it adjusts to your body you might feel better. Also, there are good chances of getting pregnant while taking clomid with metformin.
Avatar f tn Hi I am 17 and I am on metformin. The side effects of the Metformin isn't bad. You do have to go to the restroom alot but thats how you can loose waight. If you get pregnant it wont hurt the baby but metformin can go threw the milk well thats what I read. You would need to talk to your doctor if you want to breast feed. What that pill does is that it reduces the surgures on the foods you eat. Just start slow. Start with 1 for a pill for a week and then 2 ang just go on.
Avatar n tn Hair loss is sometimes a side effect of taking beta blockers. Not sure if there's a way to stop that other than changing medications. You have normal sinus rhythm but it's fast? How fast? If it's consistently over 100, you should talk to your cardio about that. It's not normal or healthy. Your meds may need to be adjusted.
Avatar f tn being IR causes all those lovely side effects (weight gain, anovulation, facial hair) so in order to control the symptoms you need to control your insulin levels.. 1. By taking your metformin, 2. Controling what you eat (no bad carbs or sugar) and when you do this, it helps lessen the side effects of metformin & 3. Exercise! Once you start doing those 3 I promise you start feeling better...
Avatar m tn Some people experience few side effects and/or minimal side effects and others have either more side effects or more problematic side effects. In addition, many of the side effects are not constant. They tend to wax and wane, worse some days and minimal other days. Some side effects are more common than others and appear in varying degrees in many people taking the drugs. Hair loss is not uncommon according to the statistics. Hair loss among people taking Pegasys 180 mcg. for 48 weeks is 22%.
Avatar f tn i have been lucky with metformin, no side effects. However, some folks have experienced feeling dizzy, light-headed, tired, or very weak; A call to your doctor may be prudent. Perhaps the dose is too high Nonetheless a call will put your mind at ease.
393893 tn?1283551230 All of your advice is greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I took it upon myself to stop taking Metformin. My side effects were increasingly getting worse, I even started losing hair. I decided to listen to my body. We have a meeting with our re on June 2nd. Maybe they can put me on something else. I was still only taking one pill I can't imagine what my body would have done if I had worked up to taking 4 a day. It was very scary. Again, thanks for all the input!!!
Avatar n tn metformin can help with weight loss, but typically like 10-15 lbs in someone that needs to lose it... and it's just an aid. I would say there is another reason... age, eating habits, etc.
Avatar f tn Hi Ladies I just have as question about metformin whats the side effects some of you may have had? I start to take metformin today so maybe this will bring on my period. I had a natural m.c in nov 2008 and no AF as of yet.
560402 tn?1235508894 I also kept my hair with Gemzar. But I do have to admit that it was a hard chemo for me. I was also on the 3 week on and 1 week off schedule. Keep in mind, as Gail said, chemo affects all of us differently. But after my treatments, I had about 2 hours before it started to hit me. I never experienced nausea or vomiting, but I felt really bad for about 3 days. The upside was that after I was on it for awhile, the side effects gradually started to ease up.
Avatar n tn Anyway, for the excess hair (as well as for hair loss) spironolactone is the only treatment really, so at least you'll know how to handle that from now on:). I honestly experience a lot of hairloss when I'm not on it - and on the pill. In the begining I was put on Androcur (Ciproterone Acetate) -- I'm not sure you can find it in USA-- but this really has severe side effects, like weight gain, plus it is very poweful and really hurts your liver.

And my mother does not want to leave this medication because its the only one that works for her burning feet. Has anybody else expirence hair loss with Lydrica? She also takes Cymbalta 60mg,lyrica 75mg, Nexuim 40mg, and Tramabol 50mg. What do you all suggest she get tested for ?
