878888 tn?1319634044 08 last test, But she put me on Metformin xr 500 for diabetes. I was wondering if anyone else takes this med along with levothyroxine and if it effects your thyroid management. I have gained 16 lbs back since January and want make sure I don't keep gaining. Ps. I work on my feet and walk about 9000 steps a day, plus have changed my diet and am counting carbs.
Avatar f tn I took birth-control pills so that I can have a normal period but then my Doctor prescribed me to take Glucophage 500 mg twice a day after food but it has side effects like dizziness, nausea, low blood pressure and diarrehea... I went to pharmacies and asked about the medicine ( Glocophage), they say its good but it is not making me feel good. The last pharmacy I went to suggested that I should take Glucophage XR. I still didnt take it, Im still using Glucophage.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Metformin 2000mg XR for 3 months and am just now getting side effects like metallic taste and gastro side effects. Same pharmacy, same Sando manufacturer. Is it normal to have side effects after a few months? I never had any side effects initially.
256553 tn?1258883918 I also have pco and have been metformin 1000 mg a day but it made me feel very sick all the time so I am now on the metformin extened release pills and they are 10 times better and do not have all the side effects of the regular metformin so you may want to talk to your doctor and see if he can give you those.
623922 tn?1223406991 I know that I ovulate but she thinks the Metformin/Glucophage might help me. Has anyone been on Metformin that can tell me what to expect? Are there any success stories for people with a similar situation? Thanks!
159063 tn?1247272817 my question is what is the next step would glucophage xr be better for hiim to take, he really hopes it doesnt get to daily insulin, I do not have a ton of expertise in diabetes so I am hoping someone can help me here..
475740 tn?1208262865 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005. I really want to lose weight and I know I gotta take the Metformin but it makes me very nauseous. The diarrhea I can handle but not the nausea, so I haven't been taking it. I see an endocrinologist Wednesday. I was wondering if there's an alternative to Metformin/Glucophage without the nausea side effects. If there's not how long does it take until you get used to the side effects?
1360237 tn?1351816181 Also if your not on the extended release metformin you should be, it will lessen the side effects and then maybe they can increase the dosage if needed. It really depends on your insurance what's covered, but you can always call and ask. Your taking the lowest dose of clomid don't loose hope, they can increase the dosage, change to femara, or even injectables, there is always options...
Avatar n tn I started by monitering my diet and still I needed medication, so my doctor prescribed me with Glucophage XR 500mg, 2 pills a day taken at same time.
Avatar f tn My Dr. wants to place me on Metformin or Glucophage. Does anyone here with MS take one of these? If so, what kind of problems might I expect? What good benefits do you receive? Any info is much appreciated!!!!
Avatar n tn In addition, I took Glucophage [Metformin] for 8 years. I used several different generic brands, none had an odor. I checked one made by Aurobindo Pharma, USA. The tablets outer has a coating, no smell. I split it open, it does not have an odor of any sorts. I do suggest you consult with your pharmacist. IMO, I wouldn't swallow anything that had a moldy odor unless several Pharmacist said it was OK to do so. Have him/her examine what you have on hand.
Avatar n tn Metformin (Glucophage) must be taken with food otherwise it may cause nausea or vomiting, gas, ingestion, and abdominal discomfort leading to loss of appetite and, of course, excessive weight loss. Your mother might want to switch to the long-acting form of Metformin, called Metformin ER, which has fewer side effects in patients. Please discuss this with her doctor.
Avatar f tn Anyone else taking meds while pregnant, such as Metformin (Glucophage) or Prometrium (progesterone)?! When were you told you could stop? I'll be running out of Metformin in a few days (I'll be over 11 weeks so not worried about it) and I was going to take the Prometrium up until week 12 (April 7th) but not sure if I should. Should I stop now? I don't want to stop and then miscarry because I didn't hold out another week.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your post. I just started Metformin and I have had some side effects but am dealing with them just fine. I hope it works. I have been on my period for almost a year and I hope it regulates me. I am ready!!! I have noticed I really have no appitite, it's hard to eat with it because when I eat I get icky feeling:) it's okay maybe it will cause me to lose weight too.
413852 tn?1317308712 I think the refill might be another brand, because the number changed to (571-but it is in a script bottle...company name not shown). It says metformin (Glucophage EQ) XR on the bottle, but the other said the same thing. The pills are different shape & size, but they put a sticky on the bt. that says it is the same, but I'm calling tomorrow to ask if it is the same brand. Yuck...no-no....DOUBLE YUCK! ;o) A friend of mines takes them for diabetes & hers are round (#397).
Avatar f tn Metformin (aka Glucophage) is a diabetic drug to treat diabetes. It is also used to treat PCOS. If you have neither why on earth is he having you take it?
Avatar n tn Can GLUCOPHAGE or GLUCOPHAGE XR be used in children? GLUCOPHAGE has been shown to effectively lower glucose levels in children (ages 10 to 16 years) with type 2 diabetes. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in children younger than 10 years old. GLUCOPHAGE has not been studied in combination with other oral glucose-control medicines or insulin in children. If you have any questions about the use of GLUCOPHAGE in children, talk with your doctor or other healthcare provider.
1500387 tn?1460740020 Of course, like any drug, Metformin has many potential side effects. The most common side effect is gastrointestinal upset, which usually only occurs during the first few weeks of taking Metformin. Other side effects include, but are not limited to, general malaise, a temporary metallic taste, vitamin B12 malabsorption, and lactic acidosis. It is important to be aware of these potential side effects when taking Metformin.
Avatar f tn While I was on it I lost weight my monthly cycle was regular. Some time later my symptoms re-occurred. I began taking Metformin XR (slow release) and suffered no side effects. However, my symptoms are getting worse and the medication is not helping. I am on a low fat low carb diet and get regular exercise daily. Nothing seems to work and my weight is ever increasing. It's something I need to get on top of as there is a strong history of diabetes in my family.
1546050 tn?1293688410 "She did a standard sugar test which came out as 4.4." I don't understand why you were diagnosed "insulin resistant" and put on Metformin [Glucophage] as 4.4 mmol/l is considered normal, very normal. I would seek an appointment with an Endocrinologist - a doctor who specializes in diabetes] for a second opinion.
Avatar m tn gained over 20 lbs, had crazy dreams every night and I was sweaty all the time. The side effects began to kill my self esteem and eventually I came to the conclusion that I needed to switch. Moving to a different med may be your answer if the side effect is outweighing the benefit, you know? Take care.
Avatar m tn She either has to manage this better or take the Metformin [Glucophage] to help lower her levels. I take 500 mg [1 tablet] of Metformin w/food once daily with zero side effects. Xanax is RX'd for panic attacks and anxiety disorders. Strange drug to RX an 83 yo. 3. Change, even for the better, is hard for a lot of people to accept. We don't know your mother so little advice can be given except keep trying.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed diabeted Type II few months back and I am on a dose of two tablets of Glucophage 500. Is this low dose or a very high dose for a new diabetes.
Avatar n tn i had similar side effects when coming off the depo shot. I thought i was pregnant and took 3 tests. they went away but it took about 6mo. My docs checked my hormones and pituitary gland and they we all fine. It's probably not the effexor but ck w/ your doc anyway.
