Avatar n tn PCOS is one of the commonest problems we see in infertility. Metformin by itself sometimes helps women ovulate more regularly, but not always. Clomid is a fertility pill, and clomid and metformin together will work the help women with PCOS ovulate approximately 65%-70% of the time. Combining clomid with metformin is often our first step for women who are trying to get pregnant but not ovulating. If that does not work, fertility injection drugs work 90%+ of the time.
Avatar f tn Hello, I took zyprexa (antipsychotic) for 4 years and have taken cymbalta (antidepressant) for 5 years. I gained a lot of weight (50lbs), and started to have insulin resistance problems and high glucose levels. I was put on metformin 500mg once a day for a year. I was told that if I lost the weight my numbers would go back to normal. I lost 40lbs, I am exercising and eating healthy. My doctor told me that I could quit metformin.
1490742 tn?1288600515 i am on metformin for the last three month. My period is due on 29th of jan...for the last two dayys i am experiencing creamy white discharge...i am so worried what it could be????any advice or suggestion...plzzzzzzz.
Avatar f tn After I quit zyprexa, my general doctor, prescribed metformin, which helped me lose the additional weight. But it seems that the sugar metabolism problems are here to stay. When I look back, I wished I was given other options to Zyprexa. In my case the benefits were not worth the side effects. I am not a doctor, but I do think your headaches and other symptoms are drug related. I am trying to be as med free as possible.
Teacher I avoid using metformin because of the bowel problems it causes. Is it advisable to take pepto bismol along with taking the metformin?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year and have been on metformin for about 2 years. This has controlled the blood sugar levels but all the symptoms are still present. My doctor has taken blood and urine tests, all of which have come back clear. I have been to a urologist and had an ultrasound on my bladder and prostate and all is OK there. I now also have a perminant rash on the glands of my penis, which my doctor tells me it thrush, but no creams clear it up.
Avatar n tn After initiating metformin, many of the hormonal problems, including weight gain despite daily exercise and healthy eating habits, have greatly improved. However, several months after achieving a dose of 1250 mg of the metformin ER, I am experiencing profound food sensitivity and allergies that have been further complicated by colitis, vitamin D deficiency, fatigue, and chronic hives. The fatigue seems to persist despite vitamin D supplementation.
587778 tn?1261397118 s own and had no problems. Then in September 2008 I started Metformin 500mg 1x a day along with my bcp. In Jan 2009 I upped the dose of Metformin to 2x a day per my doctor. I stopped my bcp in August 2009 and now am just taking Metormin 500mg 2x a day. So far it seems to be working on it's own. I had a period in August and now a period in September. And they are close in time frame.

Avatar f tn Thank you, PastorDan. I read something about Metformin that said if you have weakness, to not take Metformin and I sure don't need to add to my symptoms. I hope your wife is doing well today. Is she in alot of pain? I hope they can help her with the liver disease. I don't think I realized fatty liver could cause chirosis. That's kind of scary! I've had a fatty liver for many years. I really need to lose alot of weight but my insurance doesn't cover weight loss.

Avatar f tn After taking metformin for a year it was found I was in stage 3 renal failure. I got taken off of metformin my kidneys showed improvement, then they put me back on it again my kidneys showed problems. I was taken off of it again and again my kidney function showed signs of improvement. I was put in metformin a 3rd time and within 3 months my kidneys showed issues again. I will never take this drug again and am looking for a lawyer to represent me.
Avatar n tn I am just wondering if there are any problems with drug interactions between Metformin and OTC meds like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Midol, Unisom, Allergy/Sinus meds, etc... Common things that a person might take for pain, sleeplessness, allergies, colds, etc?
317787 tn?1473358451 My sister developed diabetes a few years ago and was put on metformin. She has no liver problems but it did give her huge digestive problems for the first two-three months. After that her body adjusted to it and she felt fine for over a year. Then her blood tests came out bad in a totally different way. It turns out she is one of the fairly small percentage of people who develop serious kidney problems from metformin. She had to stop it completely.
1187113 tn?1320691496 I have been taking Metformin 500mg 3x a day for almost a week now...on Friday, I had a problem digesting my food properly...It took until almost 5 o'clock for my breakfast biscuit to digest, which is very unusual being it was eaten at 9 or earlier...then after eating pizza around 7 and going to sleep at about 1 a.m...I awoke at 5:39 a.m. gagging and vomitting to the point that I had to take phenergan to gain some relief...
194838 tn?1303428544 Both Metformin and Januvia have stomach discomfort side effects. I agree with caregiver, take Metformin with food to lessen the chance of this. I take my daily dose half way through my mid-day meal. "I have had stomach pains and upset stomach since being on them" Did this start when you began taking Januvia? Januvia has a side effect that makes Metformin even harder to tolerate: by boosting GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) it may cause the lower stomach valve to remain shut.

Avatar n tn I'm currently taking 500 mg Metformin at night. I take my thyroid medication in the morning, so they shouldn't even be passing each other in the "corridor." I'm truly hoping I don't need to increase the Metformin as I have had gastro problems for many years, and don't want to add to those issues with a higher dose of Metformin.
Avatar f tn I heard that if Metformin causes side effects that I should get extended release Metformin and I should not have any of the side effects; stomach problems etc.... Has anyone else heard this?
Avatar f tn Ok, so I have pcos and when I 1st started metformin, it made me bleed very lightly from the 1st day until I stopped, which was about a week later, because I didnt know why I was bleeding like that. So I decided about a month later that I was going to take it again and even if i bled like that again, just keep taking it until something positive happened. So I did, and I bled very lightly again, and then it stopped.
