Metformin not digesting

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin not digesting

glucophage

Avatar f tn I've been pretty lucky in the morning sickness department. I just threw up for the 2nd time in my pregnancy (16 weeks, 1st pregnancy) and both times it has been like none of the food I've eaten all day has digested at all. Both times I'd just been eating normal food I've eaten before. Is there something that's causing me to not digest properly? And does the baby not get any nutrients when that happens?
1187113 tn?1320691496 do you take the extended release? if not that may help with your symptoms. I do have the same symptoms as you but I also have gastroparesis (my stomach doesn't contract properly). I take 1500mg of the extended release and the only other problems I have had was occasional diarrhea. If your already on extended release my only suggestion would be to eat smaller meals more often and don't eat past 6pm. Pizza is my arch enemy!
Avatar n tn I'm having the same problem . The Dr says it does not work that way I'm just not taking enough take more . Doubled my lantas &taking up to25-40 unts with or without a meal . 3166043 tn?1514260018 I never knew WHY or WHAT what causing it and I recently got diarrhea from a slurpee and told him that and he told me that my body is not breaking down sugars or something like that? And now that I look back at it the common foods that gave me digestive problems (the diarrhea, bloating, discomfort) did have sugar in them. Most fruits don't agree with me, sugary drinks, sugary foods.
Avatar m tn I went to my computer and looked up bloating, Metformin, afib. All signs pointed to GERD can cause afib. And Metformin can cause gas, bloating, digestive upset. The pieces of the puzzle were put together. I just happened to have gas-x in my bathroom and immediately took 2. Within one hour the gas and bloating were gone and so was the afib. I literally got on my knees and prayed that I was on the right path to health.
Avatar f tn I am not sure if that was too early to test. If it was not implantation, then i am hoping that it was my period trying to come on, which means there was a good chance i ovulated on my own with the Metformin. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Originally I started on the regular Metformin but due to gastritis could not continue. While I was on it I lost weight my monthly cycle was regular. Some time later my symptoms re-occurred. I began taking Metformin XR (slow release) and suffered no side effects. However, my symptoms are getting worse and the medication is not helping. I am on a low fat low carb diet and get regular exercise daily. Nothing seems to work and my weight is ever increasing.
462793 tn?1206642873 I was on the clomid/metformin combo for quite a while, the max dose of each. It did not work for me. I needed an HCG trigger shot to make me ovulate because my body would not do it on it's own. So if this combo doesn't work for you, you may want to suggest that to your doctor. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I am trying to conceive. I have also been taking Metformin. I am late on my period and I am wondering if there is a chance I might be pregnant or can metformin stop your period?
Avatar m tn At the time, being emotionally stunned by the whole storm of news, I agreed and have been taking 2,000 mg of Metformin daily along with Genress Fe birth control. The birth control and Metformin have been working to keep me in balance, but the Metformin gets me sick on and off in not so tolerable ways. I never imagined at 20 I would have to deal with this and the thought of, potentially, having severe fertility issues from it when I do plan on a child is heart breaking.
Avatar m tn Not an intolerance, but it is a sign that your body is not processing it properly, time to get off the artificial dyes, and start eating natural. funny how the body talks to us, and we don't listen.
Avatar f tn This dr said I may have PCOS, gave me the Metformin and started the provera and clomid again. This AGAIN did not work. I waited a few more months and went back in and talked to the dr he said then that I may not have PCOS. I quite taking the Metformin and started the provera and clomid. This time he wanted me to take the provera longer than before. I REALLY thought that it was going to work this time. My period was the heaviest it had been in over a year. It did not.
Avatar f tn So I have noticed that my food is not digesting. My upper abdomen is always bloated and hard where my stomach is. I feel full even if I go a day with out eating. I'll vomit every three days and before I do I have rancid burps. My vomit tastes fermented and food from days ago comes up. When my stomach is empty I don't feel full and I feel hungry again. I don't know what is going on, but it hurts. Anyone know what could be happening?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic 7 years ago at the age of 63. I was pescribes a short acting insulin with meals and and 46 units of a long acting insulin each morning because I could not tolerate metformin. I have been well-controlled with my "normal" fasting glucose ranging between 6 and 8 mmol/l (108 and 144 mg/dl). About 9 months ago I woke up one morning with a reading of 4.7 (84.6) and in subsequent days the lower readings continued.
Avatar n tn Dear Cheen - Metformin does not often completely normalize periods, although it does make them more regular. The regularity that you experienced Feb-Apr is a bit unusual. I am usually happy if metformin changes someone from a 'no-period' person to periods every 35-45 days. I do not think the PMS medicine is playing a role. One approach would be to have your doctor test your blood for a hormone called progesterone. This will tell you whether or not you ovulated or not this month.
279234 tn?1363105249 However, the normal movement is supposed to be formed. Undigested food and recognizable pills is NOT normal and not healthy and will lead to malnutrition and losing the effect of the meds (obviously). You need an eval for this. You need to see a Gastro-enterologist. I don't think this is garden variety IBS, but the GI guy needs to evaluate it. This is important! I wonder about the lack of proper digestive enzymes. I have two frank questions (Where is Frank when you need him, anyway?
Avatar m tn Over the last few years I have had more and more problems with digesting beef. I can have 1 hotdog or hamburger without much problems but any more than that and the next day my legs feel weak, I'm tired and even feel a bit dizzy. What is causing these symptoms?
Avatar m tn I agree with gpguyway that you should talk to your doctor. My understanding is that oral diabetes meds are generally used in combination, with most people taking two or three different types. Then for some people who are Type II the oral meds eventually stop working. We start out as being "insulin resistent" which means that our bodies produce enough insulin but aren't adept at using the insulin we produce. Hence the oral meds.
587778 tn?1261397118 I am currently taking 500mg Metformin 1xday. My OB-Gyn has prescribed Ortho-lo. I have been doing research of my own. My understanding is that birth control pills may exacerbate the problems in both PCOS1 & PCOS2 ( insulin and non-insulin resistant). Is there anyone that has had relief with JUST Metformin? And, for those that have used the combination of Metformin and Birth Control, how is it coming along? Thanks Everyone.......I am weary of taking hormone, :).
Avatar f tn t have a side effect in the world. However with take the metformin alone it did not start my period right away and so when my body was use to it and my doctor and I was sure I was going to continue to take it without stopping she gave me provera to start my cycle and I am currently in CD 4 and then in two weeks I go for testing and Hopefully everything should go back to to normal. Also recently we have decided that since I've reacted well to the meds as far as everything else goes...
Avatar m tn thanks! no im not on metformin. Doc says I dont need it. :) Thanks for your advice!
Avatar f tn My dr and I wondered why my A1c went from 7 to 12, well here is the answer I was not digestng the new Metformin XR. Weather done on purspose from manufacturers across the sea or due to my own lack of digesting, something is terribly wrong here. Full size of pill with insides intact.
1408094 tn?1281909283 No your not too late, However PCOS patients should not take Clomid, due to the fact that it can acctually cause cysts. However Metformin is great for PCOS patients because it will help us use insulin in our bodies instead of causing us to form more cysts. I would recommend going to a reproductive endocrynologist (RE) and they can help you with options. Good luck and keep the faith.
Avatar m tn Thanks for answering, Just to clarify, I take high sugar foods OR I take metformin. Not both at the same time. I think metformin mostly helps with insulin resistance (and it doesnt lower the sugars since they are already normal). My sugars are OK even when I am not taking metformin. They get high from 5.5 to 8 when I eat, but they drop back to 6 or 5, 2 hours after eating. The sugar levels during the shaking and weakness episodes are 4.5 to 5.
