Avatar n tn Is it best to take actos in the morning or evening? I am on metformin and glipized, as well. Is it best to take actos along with these medications to be more effective? This discussion is related to Best time to take meds.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been diagnosed with pcos and have been on metformin for just over 2 mouths and have been on clomid. Now 4 weeks pregnant I am not sure I should proceed with metformin. I have an appointment with my doctor in another week so I just want some advise. I read on Internet it could help lowering the risk of miscarriage.
Avatar f tn A blood sugar in the 70s may feel low to you at the moment as you are accustomed to having higher levels before the metformin. However, while at the lower end of normal is not a bad number. Your body should adjust in a few days. meanwhile eat small snacks between meals (healthy ones) and your blood sugar should stay pretty stable. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn when i first started I took 1 once a day for a week then 2 a day for a week then I went to the normal dosage of 3 a day. when I started the 3 a day i started feeling symptoms of dizzness, nausea and diarrhea, i guess it was too much on my stomach, so my doc told me to try taking only one in morning and 2 @ night and it did work.. my symptoms went away.
Avatar n tn m no doctor but I have never heard of multi dosage of Metformin ER, as the ER stands for Extended Release, works for 24 hrs.Too much can cause dangerously low blood sugar [hypoglycemia]. It also depends on your doctor. If he/she Rx'd 1000mg in AM and 1000 mg in PM that is the dose to follow as he/she has knowledge of your medical history/records, not us or anyone on the Internet. Splitting and/or adjusting dosage without first discussing with your doctor is ill advised.
400358 tn?1320234443 Well, most of the ladies on here who have gotten pregnant while on metformin only, have lost weight...which in theory can sometimes reverse the symptoms of pcos. Some women are told that metformin will help induce ovulation...although I have asked my Gyn this question and he advised me that is not the case (but every doctor has their own views). If you are overweight, and of course taking metformin you should start losing weight along with diet.
Avatar f tn I am getting ready to start my 4th and last round of clomid prior to being referred to a specialist and my doctor won't increase the dosage from 50 mg to 100 mg. On the 1st round of clomid, I ovulated, on the 2nd round of clomid, I ovulated 8 days late, and on the 3rd round of clomid, I didn't ovulate at all and had no side effects. I have read that the dosage should be increased if you do not ovulate.
2091411 tn?1332847723 First, your father may not be telling you everything in its entirety, call his doctor to get first hand knowledge on Metformin dosage and duration. You might include asking the doctor to re-evaluate your father. Second, these are basic testing times. His doctor may or may not have adjustments to them.
462793 tn?1206642873 I also started on just clomid, then started on metformin my third cycle because I did not ovulate with just the clomid. My RE kept increasing clomid and then put me on metformin. My fourth cyle I did ovulate and became pg, but had an ectopic. We just ended our 5th cycle this month-BFN yesterday, but I did ovualte! I have worked up to 150 clomid for 7 days and 2000mg metformin. I had three good sized folicles! I just needed to find the right combination of clomid/met.

Avatar f tn When I was first diagnosed with type 2 they gavee metformin normal release, i had to take three times a day, I passed out and felt really weak on them, I went back to the dr who gavee the slow release version glocophage and I have them morning and night and have for the past 4 years with perfect bloods and no side effects, sometimes the normal Metformin gets into certain people's blood to quick, hence the slow release version
Avatar f tn Metformin can be used to treat women who have PCOS to reduce insulin levels and promote normal ovarian function. Metformin is best used in addition to eating a healthy diet, losing weight, and exercising regularly. How Well It Works Metformin lowers insulin, androgen, and cholesterol levels. It also improves metabolism in women who are insulin-resistant. Metformin may be useful in restoring regular menstrual cycles and starting ovulation in about 45% of women with PCOS.
393893 tn?1283551230 Hi ladies, starting metformin soon and I was wondering what to expect? I've been looking online and it seems to be a medicine for diabetics although I've seen women talking about it on the forum in the past. I'm sure my re explained this to me, but I was overloaded with other info so it probably went in one ear and out the other-so much to remember. Thank you for any help!!
Avatar n tn However, it is common practice to increase medication dose to help control blood sugar (the maximum dose of metformin is about 2500 mg/day, in split doses). Some people do take their medication before eating. Please discuss changes in medication dosing with your md. You may also find that restricting carbs (eat more fat, non-starchy vegetables instead to replace the calories) may help in reducing your blood sugar.
1434731 tn?1382722384 Metformin is cheap. My daughter takes it for insulin resistance and many pharmacies have it for $4 a month. So hopefully you can get it for that price too.
1512722 tn?1313697879 Metformin is the most amazing drug, it's the reason I'm pregnant. It helped me lose 20lbs and ovulate!! I ovulated on femara but didn't get pregnant thus month I took only my 1500mg of metformin. I've been on metformin since October at 1500mg and never missed a pill. If you stick to it and exercise it could get you pregnant. I just did yoga/pilates I heard it was good for fertility and only started it this cycle and got pregnant. Good luck to you!!
Avatar f tn Stay on the metformin! And I took clomid for 6 months, and nothing. They have a new fertility drug out, ask your doctor. And download the My period tracker on your phone. It tells you when you will ovulate and when your highest peak for fertilty is! And lynleyellen, congrats on your pregnacy!!

Now that im 36 i wanted and decided to get pregnant.
Avatar f tn I was given 500mg of metformin twice a day but I am going crazy cause i had another miscarriage i got pregnant with no period. Has anyone had sucess on metformin and how long after starting metformin did your period come back regularly? Please help me.
3244521 tn?1346861134 Since you are now off the prednisone and you are no longer taking the metformin, you should continue to check your blood sugars to make sure that they are staying normal. You also need to see your doctor again and have your A1C rechecked. If it is normal and your blood sugars stay within the normal range, you may just need to follow up with your doctor a few times a year to make sure that everything stays within normal range. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I was given Clomid and it didnt work to even get me ovulating a good egg... I then was put on Metformin 2x a day and I concieved 3 months after I began.... I was diagnosed with PCOS this year after having one normal pregnancy where medication was not needed to get pregnant. If the Clomid continues to not work I would ask your doctor if he could put you on Clomid+Metformin and hopefully that works!
