950954 tn?1271210887 I understand perfectly what you're going through....I'm currently only taking Metformin and prenatal pills only to assist me in finally conceiving our little miracle...Eventually, if the Metformin doesn't help, I'll have to start something new...What is Gonal F?
1907238 tn?1340711313 Metformin is also used to treat PCOS and Adrenal Hyperplasia in women suffering from infertility. It works to combat insulin resistance, a common symptom of PCOS. It also helps to decrease DHEA, a hormone made by the adrenal glands, as well as to suppress testosterone production. I have a high level of DHEA and testosterone, but don't fall into any clinical diagnosis. My doctor just started me on Metformin due to this and a recent pregnancy loss.
4433579 tn?1354551748 My husband and I have been ttc for over a year, but in 2010 I got my left tube removed because of a softball size cyst. I am now on metformin and take B12 vitamins, are my chance nil on getting pregnant? I don't have periods unless I take provera for ten days...

Avatar f tn Yes you can. I'm 23yr dx when I was 17 and am now finally pregnant with our first. Its more difficult and may require a mix and match of medication to see what works for you but no matter how long your ttc journey something will work for you. For me it was 5 rounds of clomid with a combo to metformin for the last 2 rounds. If you're like me and irregular and the clomid starts giving you regular AF take that as a huge step in the right direction.
950954 tn?1271210887 Do you think that the Meformin has begun to help me ovulate?
608553 tn?1389502811 Upon research I noticed a lot of women take Metformin for infertility. I found online where I can buy it without a prescription, should I just buy it and take it? Who would I go see for infertility?
1801238 tn?1316477007 I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1999 as well. I have since had two live births without infertility treatment. I was able to get pregnant twice in 2003 and again in 2009 after a tubal ligation reversal. The key for me consistent exercise and very low stress about getting pregnant. When my husband and I TTC with Clomid treatment, it was unsuccessful. It wasn't until I remarried and had a very relaxed sex life that pregnancy was successful.
Avatar f tn I have pcos. In going to start taking metformin which I was told has helped many women conceive. Periods have been regular but got onto birth control, the pill, to keep it regulating. Will I be successful in conceiving our child/ren with metformin and after I get off birth control?
Avatar n tn I was started on Metformin for my second child after being diagnosed with secondary infertility and blocked tubes. ENDOCRINOLOGIST put me on Metformin conceived next month! Miscarried, conceived again following year.
Avatar f tn Metformin helps regulate insulin levels and therefore correct the hormone imbalance that might be causing the weight gain and infertility. I am not sure Metformin will help you lose weight unless you are exercising and watching your diet, but regulating your insulin will help get your body on track to losing weight more effectively.
Avatar f tn That was in 2004. At end of july of 06 i started seeing a chiropractor. Now mind you i tried metformin, clomid, and iui which none took. 2days after christmas of 06 i found i was pregnant. My suggestion and thats all it is is a suggestion is to see a reprod dr to see if you have pcos, try what they recomend, dont give up faith, dont give up trying and also to help with what you are doing, try seeing a chiropractor.

223956 tn?1208737570 Metformin is usually given to people with insulin resistance...did ur doc do that test.
Avatar m tn t like the side effects) when we got pregnant. We now have a 17 month old baby girl who is our miracle child. In my opinion the Metformin did more for me than the Clomid. From what I've read, if Clomid does not work for you within 3 months then it probably won't work...not sure if this is true though. We cherish everyday with her. I am currently back on Metformin and Clomid and hoping for baby #2...we've already been trying 11 months this time.
1626928 tn?1378850167 HI, Letrozole is many times effective in women who show no response to clomiphene. Also the metformin will help in normalizing hormones in women with PCOS. If there are no results with letrozole then help with gonodatropins may be necessary. Treatment of endometriosis will depend on its severity. Consult an infertility expert. Do not get disheartened as treatment for infertility may take a few years to give results. Hope this helps.
736178 tn?1237223790 I was also prescribed metformin due to hyperinsulinemia caused by PCOS. I was told that increased insulin in the body has been linked to infertility in some studies. Being a nurse, I knew this medication is for diabetics and had never heard of its use in infertility. I think my doctor, based on the studies, put me on the medication in case there is a chance of infertiltiy with increased insulin. Hope this helps some.
256553 tn?1258883918 If you go to any website on infertility or pcos it will discuss the use of Metformin. I have been on Metformin for pcos and have been on it for one year. It has corrected my FSH & LH levels and helped me to lose 25 lbs without hardly trying. The Metformin sensitizes the cells to insulin therefore lowering the body's production of insulin, which also then reduces androgen production. Once this happens, ovulation often resumes. I beleive that this is particular with pcos conditions.
Avatar m tn If you were my patient, I would probably consider something such as Clomid and Metformin in combination to improve ovulation and shorten the time to conception. Good luck!
415867 tn?1323365503 They were first given metformin and 19 of them resumed menstruating and showed indications of ovulation. But 10 required clomiphene (a fertility drug) in addition to metformin in order to show evidence of ovulation. Twenty women of the 48 (42%) became pregnant. However, 7 of the 20 miscarried.(8) REDUCED RISK OF MISCARRIAGE. Another aspect of PCOS-related infertility is the tendency for repeated miscarriages.
Avatar f tn I have pcos and endemetriosis as well. The metformin definitely works. Have you tried seeing any infertility doctors? There are numerous specialized procedures that can aid in getting pregnant.
Avatar f tn What about diabetes and infertility as it is related to males? Does it cause fertility issues in men, too? Dr. Falcone: Yes. Certain diabetes complications can cause issues for men that contribute to infertility. For example, nerve damage from diabetes, multiple sclerosis or a spinal cord injury can lead to retrograde ejaculation – where the semen goes into the bladder. Since the semen never reaches the female reproductive system, infertility may be an issue.
707544 tn?1228949819 I presume that you are seeing a specialist in fertility called a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility specialist. If not, I suggest that you make an appointment.
Avatar n tn (5) In this study, 3,234 non-diabetics with elevated blood glucose were given metformin, placebo, or lifestyle recommendations. The incidence of diabetes in the metformin group was 31% less than in the placebo group. RESTORATION OF NORMAL MENSTRUAL CYCLE. A number of studies have shown that menstruation can be restored in many women with PCOS. For example, in a study at Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, 43 women who were not having periods took Glucophage, and 39 of them resumed normal menses.
706214 tn?1244523049 If you are overweight even moderate weight loss and exercise will improve the symptoms of PCOS . because weigth gain makes the hormonal imbalance worse. although i hate medicines and their side effects metformin may help with weight loss aswell .
Avatar f tn Maybe as ur Dr/Ob about Metformin, it was used also in my treatment of infertility.... I wish u super sticky baby dust!!!!!
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a 34 years old and have been trying to get pregnant for 2 years. I have been on Clomid & Metformin for the past 14 months, & I have had 2 operations to remove endometriosis, a cyst on my ovary & a septum in my womb. I have been diagnosed with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome), Endometriosis, Clinical Depression, IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), FMS (Fibromyalgia Syndrome) & Asthma. I am starting to lose hope. Is there any advice any can give me?
Avatar f tn HI, Pregnancy is not impossible in women with PCOS. With proper treatment conceiving will be possible. Metformin and clomid both are good drugs. Metformin will help normalise your hormones and clomid helps with induction of ovulation. This can be taken for 3 to 6 months. If there are no results then you will need further evaluation and treatment by an infertility expert. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
