225237 tn?1333138999 Ok I have been on metformin hcl ER 500 mg once at night. It has been almost two weeks since I started the medication.....for the past couple of days I noticed something in my bowel movement.....its in my morning stool it looks kinda orangish an kinda like a small carrot that has white stuff in the middle. I know this is totally disgusting but I need some advice! Could it be the metformin being released in my stool?? If so, does that mean I'm not getting my medication like I should??
Avatar n tn Correction to my comment; "For the long-acting form, metformin ER, the starting dose is metformin ER 500 mg once daily, and the maximum dosing is metformin ER 2000 mg once daily (or metformin ER 1000 mg twice daily).
Avatar n tn End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss. I'm 68 so maybe it's due to aging. Will ask my dr when I see him the end of April for an A1C test.

Avatar f tn I just got a prescription for Metformin HCL 500 mg 1 tablet a day. Can you tell me if I can have an occasional drink if I am taking this medication, or does drinking any alcohol cause a problem? Once in a while I like to have a vodka & tonic.

Avatar m tn 6 range and all I have ever taken is metformin hcl 500 mg twice a day. I have lost 60 pounds over the last few years by walking 3 and jogging 1 mile everyday , down to a relatively fit 208 pounds down from 270. I am 5ft 8 so still a little stocky. I eat what I want but its all in calorie intake and carbs ( I thought), not a lot of pasta lots of salad garden variety fruit blueberries apples and oranges, do have hamburgers and pizza in moderation.
Avatar m tn Starting one week ago, fearing that her glucose levels might rise too high with all the holiday food, my mom unwisely decided to take a 500 mg tablet of Metformin every day again. 3-4 days later, after a heavy lunch (not sugary foods), my mom's body starting shaking and teeth chattering, which calmed down after ~15 minutes.
Avatar n tn I was just inform that my fasting levels are 9 times higher than normal and am being put on Metformin 500 mg. I also have a thyroid and blood pressure issues. I am scared to death of this medicine. what side effects are there?

Avatar n tn what Amanda said is right- i was suffering for PCOS, and was on Metformin 500 Mg- the doctor gives the prescribed doses as per the body type- usually they give 1000-1500 Mg (2-3 tabs) a day to see , but for me 500 Mg worked well to have regular periods and Ovulation. the time i got pregnant, my doctor took me off from Metformin and i am only taking prenatal..
1907238 tn?1340711313 I was given metformin 500 mg ER (extended release) then moved up to 1000 mg after a week. I did get pregnant after the first month. It ended up being a tubal pregnancy but I did get pregnant on only metformin. My doctor has now added clomid to the mix because my progesterone levels were lower than they needed to be although I was having a regular period at 31 days. Take the metformin at night before you go to bed so if it causes any side effects you will be asleep for it!
Avatar m tn It is not unreasonable to take two 1000 mg Metformin tablets a day, provided you get regular liver function testing. Or three 500 mg tablets. But you should not do so blindly. And you can't count on "feeling" to sense your glucose levels. Intense blood glucose testing is the only way to get a handle on whether or not your medications are being properly used. Many diabetic clinics have a download feature where you come in and they download information from your meter.
Avatar f tn Hi, last night I took 2 Tylenol extra strength at 10:30 pm for a headache. I was having pretty bad allergies as well. so I took 2 offbrand Benadryl severe allergy & sinus headache (Meijer off-brand) at about 2:38 am. I believe the Tylenol extra strength contained about 500 mg of acetaminophen in each capsule. The offbrand Benadryl contains 325 mg of acetaminophen, 25 mg of diphenhydramine HCl, & 5 mg of Phenylephrine HCl in each capsule. Was this okay to do?
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Metformin for type 2 diabetes and have gone from 500 mg to 1,500 mg per day. A1C and glucose is worsening despite higher dose and strict diet, exercise. Does my body have an issue with the drug? I was considering Berberine as a natural supplement instead of Metformin, thoughts?
Avatar m tn With all of this, they still want me to take 500mg of Metformin ER (at breakfast and dinner, so 1000mg per day). First, think another A1C may be in order a couple months after surgery to act as a validator with these normal BG numbers? Second, is it usual to have the ER version of Merformin initially perscribed? Isn't there a non-ER version that is more common?
Avatar f tn Anyway, I once read upon someone saying there is a newer brand called Metformin ER (extended release) that is easier on the stomach, so maybe ask your doc about switching u to that kind (I may need to do so also). I also sometimes feel very dizzy lately off and on. I just wish I could have normal periods and ovulation. . . Wish u success in trying to conceive. . .
Avatar n tn The smallest dose of Metformin I know of is 500 mg tablet. In India you have 250 mg tablets? What type of Metformin are you taking - there 10 variations? Your doctor told you to take Glucosat with Metformin or you did this on your own? Have you Google'd each Glucosat [glukosat] ingredient for possible contraindications/interactions with Metformin? Bitter melon by itself is OK but has been known not to mix "nicely" with other medications. "What to do?
