3189297 tn?1345139915 I take metformin too 1000mg in the morn and 1500 at night, but it really does nothing for me.Havent had a regular period since may and went without one at all for 8 months before that.Do you know if your ovulating every month.Have you ever tried the ovulating kits to see. Then your next step would be to have your mans sperm count checked then have the doctor give you some clomid.
1907238 tn?1340711313 i was on metformin for almost year and clomid for 6 months only conceived once and ended up with MC. also if you are over weight they give metformin to help you reduce weight as well especially in PCOS. PCOS is never shown in blood test you need a good scan... :) best of luck anyway... hope it works for you....
Avatar f tn HI, After starting treatment with metformin, it may take a few months to achieve a pregnancy. This will also depend on your hormonal levels. Hence a careful follow up with your gynaecologist is necessary. Hope this helps.
604185 tn?1233960857 I have been on Metformin for many years now (for fertility reasons). I think its the best. I am on my 6th IVF (and I hope it works this time!). One of my fertility doctors took me off metformin for 3 of my ivf tries and the results were much much worse. From everything I have read, it seems that metformin is a safe medication and you can stay on it all through your pregnancy (unless you have liver issues).
1574695 tn?1322590597 What are you taking metformin for? Do you have diabetes? Do you have PCOS? Is the doctor would said to stop taking it the same one who prescribed it? I did a little research and metformin is Pregnancy Category B. It is generally considered safe for pregnant women. http://diabetes.emedtv.com/metformin/metformin-and-pregnancy.html The article linked above states that metofrmin is generally continued throughout the pregnancy if you are taking it for PCOS.

Avatar f tn My friend has PCOS and is taking metformin. She got pregnant this month after not being able to for years. She also had the dizziness when taking metformin. She found out last month that when you take the metformin you have to be on a low carb intake for it to work efficiently.
Avatar f tn In Canada, metformin is under clinical study for pregnancy. The officially approved treatment is insulin shot. I'm taking insulin but diet and exercice is more than needed to keep it under control. If your physician prescribed it He most think it is safe.
847330 tn?1238713603 If you did IVF you wouldn't need Clomid. They'd stimulate your ovaries to produce large follicles (eggs). They'd then retrieve those eggs. They'd also collect your husband's sperm or donor sperm and fertilize the eggs in a petri dish. They'd then be transferred to your womb. IUI is different than IVF. They have your husband give a sample of semen, or they could use donor sperm, and would inseminate you. I'm sure there is more to it that someone else could explain.
Avatar f tn I ovulate 15th day of my cycle every month...... Metformin will help with your periods... Its very important that u get on metformin b/c people with psco have a higher risk of mc... Plus u want to stay on it when u r preg...
Avatar n tn i got dignosed with pcos about 5 years ago and all i took was metformin for 3 months plus lost about 20 pounds (i was trying for almost 2 years before the meds) and i conceived on my own since then i havent had a problem and im currently pregnant again.
Avatar f tn If she is only 3 weeks pregnant, then why did she stop metformin? For those who have pcos, metformin can be taken up to either the 12th or 19th weeks in pregnanacy as it reduces the chances of m/c. Like I said before, we are not doctors here...we can only give opinons, but all in all a doctor should be seen.
Avatar f tn I have been on Metformin ( a GYN drug that induces ovulations...basically makes you extra fertile. I went on it when I was so completely stressed that I stopped ovulating for one month) and now my period is a bit late. Its usually on time and I took a test two days ago at my 7th day of missing my period and it came back negative. However, I have been researching and some will take a test one day and then a few days later it comes back positive.
Avatar f tn I think dropping 2 stone and making sure I took metformin every day helped. I had been takin it for years but kept stopping it.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Metformin for a couple years now because my doctor said I was pre-diabetic. I had my first OB appointment yesterday, and he advised me to stop taking the Metformin, since I wasn't diabetic. Everything I have read on the issue says that taking Metformin while you are pregnant can help with early miscarriage, gestational diabetes, and a whole list of other problems that could possibly arise. I could really use a second opinion! Thanks!

Avatar m tn Glycomet is the generic term for Metformin (Glucophage). I just picked up my Metformin RX yesterday. It comes with a pharmaceutical paper that explains in detail everything one needs to know about the drug. This is what the attached pharmaceutical paper had to say about pregnancies: "Teratogenic Effects: Pregnancy Category 8 Most experts recommend that insulin be used during pregnancy to maintain blood glucose levels as close to normal as possible.
1843973 tn?1326131704 I have tried prenatals and metformin for 6+ months but gave up on those. I had 2 miscarriages in 2008. The first one I was 5 months and the second I was 3 months. Both times I was pregnant with twins. I am almost at the breaking point with trying. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
1306788 tn?1334752651 Hi, Metformin can be safely continued up to the first trimester of pregnancy. There are reports of metformin preventing early miscarriages in women with PCOS. An ultrasound scan should be done to confirm the viability of the pregnancy. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I was on this before (and during) my pregnancy for type 2 diabetes.
Avatar f tn t have kids and nor would I be a good candidate for fertility treatments, but, I had a healthy baby girl in July 2013 (prior to pregnancy was taking metformin For 1 year) and by May 2014 I was naturally pregnant (after baby #1 I was no longer insulin resistant so I hadn't taken metformin) again with a baby who's doing splendid.
Avatar f tn I had to stop taking metformin completely as soon as I got my pregnancy confirmed. I was taking it for PCOS and insulin resistance. My dr said I'll probably start taking it after delivery and after I finished breastfeeding.
