Avatar f tn I just found out I have polycystic ovaries and I am a little freaked out by it. My doctor started me on birth control and metformin for the next six months with orders to lose weight. I am wondering how hard or if I will be able to overcome this problem and be able to conceive.
Avatar n tn I do not think there is a permanent remedy other than removal of ovaries, which is not a solution for anyone that wants children, or a good solution for anyone too young to be thrown into surgical menopause (unless it is to save a person's live from ovarian cancer). There are medications that keep it under control to some degree, but I do know if they can be taken while trying to conceive. A good gynecologist should be consulted.
Avatar f tn what is the side affect of polycystic ovaries after treatment? weight gain possible after treatment?
Avatar f tn Dr. was lovely. Said should be fine. Said load of rhubarb that it'll be harder for me to get pregnant cause of polycystic ovaries. Says there's a window where we can get pregnant, depending on my cycle. I got to book to have a blood test on the 21st in any hospital - got the forms - just to make sure I'm ovulating, although he doesn't see why not.
Avatar f tn Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is related to insulin resistance. It's often treated with metformin, which is often used to treat Type II diabetes. The best "natural" treatment for PCOS is the elimination of processed foods such as breads and bread products and eat lots of veggies, lean meats, healthy fats, nuts, seeds, etc. Avoid fruit, except for one serving/day, or any simple carbs that spike the blood sugar, which, in turn spikes insulin levels.
Avatar n tn Cysts in the ovaries are sign of PCOS. There is no known cure for PCOS. I have PCOS too. Doctor will put you on BCP to regularize your periods if you are not ttc. Usually they put you on metformin that takes of the cysts to some extent. What treatment are you going through?
Avatar m tn unfortunatly i had to stop the medication as it wasnt going well with my levothyroxine for my thyroid, but if you only have polycystic ovaries and no other heaalth problems. its worth asking your doctor to start you on 3 month course and see how you.

Avatar f tn people with polycystic ovaries usually lack a certain hormone that helps support pregnancy in the early stages, my doctor put me on metformin to help me with this pregnancy as I had lost 2 previous both were at seven weeks, I am now 26 weeks, ask your doctor about it and you could also research it, I took the metformin while ttc up till I was 12 weeks when the placenta usually takes over...
209384 tn?1231168306 The removal of the ovaries will not stop it as it is an endocrine problem. Metformin should help.
Avatar f tn In the repost on the ultrasound it said there are undermatured follicles in the ovaries but not in a classic polycystic way ??? im not sure what that means and neither did my doctor as he said the report was worded badly.. Does it mean there are cysts there???
2003099 tn?1327560844 but i would just like to get all this under control b4 I start trying again for children...i thought bout going on the pill and see if the metformin will over ride the bc so i can get pregnant i have heard people will do both...cuz the pill can level my progestruin levels and the metformin will overide the effects of the bc. for as the ovulation goes....is that true?

Avatar n tn I had IVF 2 years ago to concieve my DS who is now 16 months old .. Ijust did my second FET on 12/3. I take metformin for my PCOS which helps me loose weight and with the cysts on my ovaries. YOu should definitely go to your OBGYN and if they diagnose you with PCOS you should go see an RE to help you concieve. There are some women who get put on metformin and their periods return .. That does not happen for me bc I have a severe case.

Avatar f tn Are you taking metformin for polycystic ovaries or increased insulin resistance? If yes then you may start having your cycles regularly soon. With history of unprotected sex the chances of pregnancy are very high. Spotting and cramps could be suggestive of early pregnancy. The spotting may be due to implantation bleeding. Consider consulting your gynecologist for examination and blood HCG test to confirm/rule out pregnancy.
Avatar m tn re overweight). I would highly recommend asking your doctor more about polycystic ovarian syndrome - or even researching it on the internet.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if anyone had any tricks to regulate your period so I can figure out when I'm ovulating? I don't want to take any drugs, my doctor put me on metformin because she said I have polycystic ovaries but I don't know. My testosterone levels are a little high I guess. I stopped taking birth control on December 28th and had my first period on April 7th and just had my second on June 7th. So they are getting closer but still not good enough. I just wanna be pregnant!!!

Avatar m tn as a sufferer from polycystic ovaries i also took clomid and metformin to help me concieve, somtimes you can be late from your period and will be given pills to start a bleed to get you ready all over again to try the next month.ask your specialist advise and dont give up as i was trying for a baby for 5years but when i started taking clomid and metformin i got caught in the 6th month .
1358263 tn?1277379213 Birth control is not an option for me since I am TTC. I am not back on Metformin 500mg TID (three times a day), I have also taken Clomid. I got prego last year, had a M/C at 6.5 months, and then again this year but MC at 5 wks. There is hope, and there are many women on this website who have PCOS and are or have had healthy pregnancies. See your doctor and get your body back in control. I wish you a lot of luck!
