Metformin for facial hair

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin for facial hair

glucophage

has any1 tried metformin does it really help weight loss and stop excess facial hair?
i was on metformin 2000mg to restore my period, help slow down the facial hair growth, and to help maintain my weight. It worked. With the metformin, my facial hair did not stop. It slows the rate of new growth so you're stuck with what you have but will grow fewer "new" hairs. My period came back although it wasn't terribly regular. I did see it every one to two months. Without metformin i would get it maybe once in 6months+ and the weight...
Excessive facial hair and everything. My OB prescribed Metformin for me in the very beginning. I take 1000mg twice per day. I am currently 17.5 weeks and my OB says that he could not be happier an dthat everything looks great. I also had a Cerclage done at 12 weeks as well to be safe. The one mahor side effect for me is excessive diarrhea. Also the baby has been measuring weeks bigger, so I will just need to deliver early. Metformin and a lot of prayer I feel has done the trick this time.
I have lots of facial hair as well as the irregular and painfull periods.I have talked to Doctor but he says there is nothing to do about the hair.(Wax) was his advice. As far as your painfull periods,my mom had to have a historectomy. She done the same thing and had to have surgery.I am not certain why.
I had my ovary removed and I have had a regular period since. That was 10 years ago. I was 17. I still have the facial hair. I was told that once the hair folical is activated, it does not go away. I would have to get laser hair removal done. I hope that this helps you. Good luck!
in my case their was nothing wrong with my ovaries but I did have insulin resistance which caused me very bad acne, no period at all, alittle facial hair, and definitely darking folds around my neck and arms.My OB/GYN put me on metformin and birth control. A year later I've lost 61 pounds because of it..i feel amazing. It was slow in the beginning because of the side effects from the metformin ex. stomach bloat, gas, diarrhea, and ingestion.
Years ago I lost a signigicant amount of weight due to an eating disorder. I had several side effects, including the development of facial hair. I plucked my facial hair, and inevitably this would later turn into a pimple where I plucked. It even seemed to spread like an infection. My solution? Weight gain, adequate sleep and eating enough fat. When I do get occasional hairs and pimples, I have found that HYDROGEN PEROXIDE works better than any acne treatment around.
I had all the pcos symptoms like facial hair, iregular periods etc. But my weight was always under control. I consulted a gyneac and she told me since I was single at that time she just gave me dianette to control hair growth. I got married last yr and since i moved to UK, I consulted a endocronolgist here. She put me on Metformin 500*3 a day for 6 months . I got periods regular on a 40 day cycle. my last period was on jan 25. As per 40 day cycle I expected a period in March 6 and dint get it.
It doesn't seem to be upsetting my stomach, and it has greatly helped with my other PCOS symptoms (facial hair, acne, mood swings). Unfortunately my most disturbing issue is my weight. Within two weeks of starting the metformin, I had lost 9.5 pounds, and I actually cried because I was so happy to see that after 10 years the weight was finally coming off. The last three days I have gained 6 pounds back, so I am crying the OTHER kind of tears now.
I had blood work done and they said that i have low progesterone and high testosterone and insulin resistance with the pcos. Also I have facial hair. I also am very over weight. I weighed 400 pounds in Jan, 377 on 09/11/08 and now 349 pounds. I found out that i ovulate by charting my cycle. also have a full cycle after a few months, Yeah with in like 2-4 weeks my breast start to hurt. you can send me a private message if you have more questions.
LOL I am now going to try the hcg injection for weight loss as well as the fact that I've read it helps with the PCOS symptoms, excessive facial hair etc. I know one friend that had great luck with losing weight on Metformin. She agreed that the first couple weeks she lost weight because she lived in the bathroom but after that she continued to lose.
I have tiny ammount of facial hair but i wax it off is there anything else i can do? Is there any pcos suppert groups or anything? please let me know thank you so much.
I struggled with weight gain, facial hair growth, skin discoloration, and infertility. The first time my husband and I saw a doctor was 3 years ago and he prescribed me clomid, at first 50 mg which I ovulated the first cycle but then never agian after that even with increased mg. We were so discouraged. The doctor prescribed me glucophage (1000 mg daily) and then we decided to take a break from treatment.
Besides of other symptoms, I have constant problems with my face, such as acne and I also have problems with facial hair. Would laser treatment help me/with the hair growth? Because this is what doctors recommended for me. I also have problems on my legs, but those are due to ingrowing hair-which also has to do with this disease. I haven't worn a skirt or short pants since I was 12 or so. I feel like I'm missing out on enjoying myself and my youth.
The most widespread hormonal problem in women with excessive facial hair is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a common endocrine disorder, which affects approximately 6 percent of women of reproductive age throughout the country. A woman diagnosed with PCOS does not ovulate regularly and, therefore, has irregular periods. These women tend to be obese but not always.

basically u can kinda know if u have it because it can cause weight gain facial hair, it can also cause you to never get ur period or always be on it and of course it can cause infertility problems. u can get an ultrasound done on your ovaries and if there are many follicles or cysts on your ovaries u most likely have pcos...
If you do not want to get pregnant and are sexually active, i suggest birth control, it does the same things as metformin but provides the birth control. hair you have now- DO NOT SHAVE! i find it makes my hair coarser, thicker, and grows back quickly. I have it on my chin and neck. I pluck the hairs out (so time consuming) and wax. I have an at home wax kit (prewaxed pieces of paper -looks like tape) and pull it off....
I was wondering if there is any way naturally i could become pregnant. i have not the highest form but def. not mild. -weight gain -facial hair, chest and abdominal hair -no periods (last one was Aug 2010) i had one jun. july and aug. but not since. -deepening of the voice We would really like to have a child of our own, and if there is anything you could suggest us try is would be greatly appreciated.
I was diagnosed with PCOS about three years ago and since then, it's been a nightmare dealing with the weight gain biopsies, unwanted facial hair and so on. I am now taking birth control to regulate my periods. I really would like to have another child, but was told that it is almost impossible due to the many cysts. Is there any advice that can be given that I can try that could possibly help me conceive?
i usually get it twice a year and i dont have insurance to get my hormone levels tested right now and i was wondering if it was pcos do i have to have facial hair or weight gain?
my only symptoms arre facial hair and i have skipped 2 cycles in a row. (i have always had regular cycles) my question is what exactly is this? is it a major problem to get pregnant with PCOS? what will they do to help me get pregnant?
theres really nothing you can do but take metformin it will slow down the hair growth and youll loose weight.i have pcos too but my periods are long and heavy. when you were pregnant on the clomid did you spot if so how long?
i have not yet been to a doctor to see if i have polycystic ovary syndrome (pcos) but i have all the symptoms like my hair falling out from my scalp and stomis hair and facial hair and weight gain on just my stomic and most imporatantly no periods and i have already had one miscarrage. i want to try and have another child and i alrady know that i would have to have the use of a fertility drug but how serious is it and can they stop it and will the hair go away or am i stuck with it.
On my stomache, upper lip, back, legs, arm, butt, and even a little facial hair. I really wanna be active for high school and play sports,go to parties, and date but I'm just so uncomfortable with myself. even got some facial hairs too. it appears that i am ovulating often. this has me miserable my boyfriend and i have been also trying to have a baby for a year now and nothing is happening. the doc told me that because of pcos it is the reason that i am not getting pregnant. i have been put on contraceptive pills and even hormone pills and it appears that they don't work. i want to have a baby so bad......
bad hair loss (by the way i'm 20) lots of excess body and face hair. (its really crazy)((thick facial hair, leg hair, and arm hair) acne, (not bad acne but acne non the less) I am over weight and do struggle with lossing it. (considering the lap-band.) I am not the least bit stressed so i know these symptoms aren't coming from that, i'm probably the most laid back person you'd ever meet. I have to go to my doctor soon, and i'm going to talk to him about this.
