has any1 tried metformin does it really help weight loss and stop excess facial hair?
i was on metformin 2000mg to restore my period, help slow down the facial hair growth, and to help maintain my weight. It worked. With the metformin, my facial hair did not stop. It slows the rate of new growth so you're stuck with what you have but will grow fewer "new" hairs. My period came back although it wasn't terribly regular. I did see it every one to two months. Without metformin i would get it maybe once in 6months+ and the weight...
Excessive facial hair and everything. My OB prescribed Metformin for me in the very beginning. I take 1000mg twice per day. I am currently 17.5 weeks and my OB says that he could not be happier an dthat everything looks great. I also had a Cerclage done at 12 weeks as well to be safe. The one mahor side effect for me is excessive diarrhea. Also the baby has been measuring weeks bigger, so I will just need to deliver early. Metformin and a lot of prayer I feel has done the trick this time.
Keep up with the wax for the upper lip and use tweezers for your few wild hairs under your chin.
hi i know for a fact that the extra hair on the face has to do with extra hormones every woman in my family has that including me and i talked to a dr about it and they told me it was just from having some kind of hormone i would try a different dr/lab!
I did not have a period for 2 years and I got a lot of facial hair. I finally went to an endocronologist and found out that I had a tumor on my ovary. It was causing my hormone levels to be wrong. I had way too much testosterone in my system. I had my ovary removed and I have had a regular period since. That was 10 years ago. I was 17. I still have the facial hair. I was told that once the hair folical is activated, it does not go away. I would have to get laser hair removal done.
I've recently been on metformin for like 2 months and my testosterone level drop from 65 to 60 not a lot but still something, this high testosterone in my system had cause me to not ever get a real period on my own and I'm just wondering If its knocked down to its normal level will I get a period? This is the only reason I have pcos due to high testosterone cause there's no cyst what so ever on my ovaries. Anyways yes I need some advice or what not thank youu!
I told the clinic I STRONGLY feel like I suffer from PCOS and they asked me why. I explained how I have EVERY symptom of it... Infertility, excessive facial/chest hair, etc. and they made me an appointment for a sonogram but then cancelled it and keep giving me the run around. I think it could be that I don't have health insurance. Anyway, I've registered in a PCOS website where I get news letters because I feel THAT strongly about it!
I have experienced the same thing with Metformin. I've been on it now for about two and a half weeks, and the other night I had to get out of bed at 3am and throw up. Other than that I have been constipated from about day four of taking it. It doesn't seem to be upsetting my stomach, and it has greatly helped with my other PCOS symptoms (facial hair, acne, mood swings). Unfortunately my most disturbing issue is my weight. Within two weeks of starting the metformin, I had lost 9.
in my case their was nothing wrong with my ovaries but I did have insulin resistance which caused me very bad acne, no period at all, alittle facial hair, and definitely darking folds around my neck and arms.My OB/GYN put me on metformin and birth control. A year later I've lost 61 pounds because of it..i feel amazing. It was slow in the beginning because of the side effects from the metformin ex. stomach bloat, gas, diarrhea, and ingestion.
About 2 months ago my doctor put me on the Synthroid, a thyroid drug, Then about a 3 weeks she put me on Metformin. For the past 3 or 4 weeks I have been noticing changes in my breast. Shooting pains off and on, tingling. It is normally just on the left side but the right one also gets pains and tingles at time, just not as much. Anyway.........my breast seem to "feel" different, like they have more whatever in them. The also look a tad fuller.
LOL I am now going to try the hcg injection for weight loss as well as the fact that I've read it helps with the PCOS symptoms, excessive facial hair etc. I know one friend that had great luck with losing weight on Metformin. She agreed that the first couple weeks she lost weight because she lived in the bathroom but after that she continued to lose.
I had all the pcos symptoms like facial hair, iregular periods etc. But my weight was always under control. I consulted a gyneac and she told me since I was single at that time she just gave me dianette to control hair growth. I got married last yr and since i moved to UK, I consulted a endocronolgist here. She put me on Metformin 500*3 a day for 6 months . I got periods regular on a 40 day cycle. my last period was on jan 25. As per 40 day cycle I expected a period in March 6 and dint get it.
If others reading this have facial hair, acne, and gain wegiht easily (even if you are not overweight, yet it is hard for you to maintain a stable weight across the year) , then I would get tested for PCOS. I have acne, thick facial hair around both my cheecks leading from my mouth to my side burns, and across the jawline and chin. I am not what you would call overweight, although I could loose 10 pounds, but as a child I was.
It gets me a little sad though because with PCOS i have gotten a lot of body hair and its embarassing when i go to wax. Don't know what to do because doctor won't give me anything for the hair growth. I am fortunate to have a husband whos great and understanding.
I have gained about 8-10 lbs since then. I am loosing a lot of hair too on my head, but also have more visible facial hair now.
ok thanks for the info. by the way i got my prescription and i take 2 500mg of metformin a day for thirty days. i haven't started taking them yet because i haven't started my AF. and if i dont start i have to take another med. called aygestin and my doc said do not take them together so im going to wait and see if i start this week. last month i needed aygestin to start my AF because i hadn't had it for 9 mnths, due to the PCOS.
Some diseases, such as AIDS or treatments for cancer, can also make people's hair turn gray while they are young. The most widespread hormonal problem in women with excessive facial hair is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a common endocrine disorder, which affects approximately 6 percent of women of reproductive age throughout the country. A woman diagnosed with PCOS does not ovulate regularly and, therefore, has irregular periods. These women tend to be obese but not always.
Besides of other symptoms, I have constant problems with my face, such as acne and I also have problems with facial hair. Would laser treatment help me/with the hair growth? Because this is what doctors recommended for me. I also have problems on my legs, but those are due to ingrowing hair-which also has to do with this disease. I haven't worn a skirt or short pants since I was 12 or so. I feel like I'm missing out on enjoying myself and my youth.
I've been taking metformin for about 3 months. Before taking metformin I didn't have a cycle for about 3 1/2 years. The first month I started taking metformin, I had a cycle. It's n ot regular, but I had one. Today, is my seocnd day taking clomid. I have three more days to go. My doctor told me to continue taking metformin with clomid. Around the 12th of January my doctor told me to start using an 5 day ovulation kit. My husband and I has been trying fo 2 years.
Im, 19 an really need an over the counter fix for my facial hair, i seem to have it quite noticably (dark/Thickish) down the sides of my face, which looks like sideburns, on my top lip, my neck and on my chest an abdomen.
At home, am OK as long as i do not show my stomach and chest but now i am getting very anxious !! are there any solutions out there for the facial and chest area ? i don't think i am going to wear a bikini in the apartment so stomach hair is not a problem for now. please help, i have had depression because of my weight and the excessive hair - university is already tough enough , i don't want to be laughed at or feel insecure !!!
i have a really hard time with facial hair, and it makes sense that i would sense my male hormone is higher than it should be. it's really embarrassing to look in the mirror and see dark hair growing on my lower face and neck. i have to use cream every other day. now i read that pcos can be caused by insulin resistance, but my doctor didn't really say anything about it.
The doctor said she would put me on hormone pills if the bc didn't work, but that doctor moved and I hate going to the gyn. I have abnormal facial hair growth.I also have what I call risings or boils that I have been told could be hormone related or due to Staph. I have started having anxiety problems since January and I don't know what could cause them...could anxiety be related to hormones also? I know this is just patient to patient but I was wondering if anyone has similiar problems.
Depression, sudden weight gain especially around the middle, unexplained gradual weight gain, extra facial hair, an of course, no period. Hope this helps!
I have classic PCOS symptoms...irregular/absent periods, slight facial hair(not a lot but enough to annoy me), acne(only on chin), skin tags(neck and armpits), weight(workout, eat mostly healthy yet doesn't help). I just got some Vitex Agnus Castus (Chaste berry) because it's supposed to help with PMS, periods, PCOS, etc but haven't started it yet as it takes a few months to really work and I don't know if I want to be taking a pill every day for a long time.
there were even times I would bleed like every two weeks with no reason....I would think there would have to be more suspect PCOS, do u have a lot of facial hair things of that nature? have u looked it up online??? I also always have the brown before and after AF....a few years ago, I had 2 ovarian cysts back to back in a few months, I looked up PCOS, from what i remember there might be more symptoms then just abnormal cycles....
I'm starting to think I may have had a mild case of pcos all this time and has now become exasperated by the onset of perimenopause. ALL of my symptoms can be summed up within the symptoms of pcos-- hair loss, facial hair growth (hirtsutism), stubborn weight gain (belly fat),headaches & heart palpitations etc... Plus the low fsh number. If I were truly getting menopausal don't you think that number would be higher?? Last follie check (afc) back in April was like 15 so ....?
bad hair loss (by the way i'm 20) lots of excess body and face hair. (its really crazy)((thick facial hair, leg hair, and arm hair) acne, (not bad acne but acne non the less) I am over weight and do struggle with lossing it. (considering the lap-band.) I am not the least bit stressed so i know these symptoms aren't coming from that, i'm probably the most laid back person you'd ever meet. I have to go to my doctor soon, and i'm going to talk to him about this.
