Avatar f tn My periods have always been irregular and by this i mean i bleed alot more than i should do. For example i can be on for 1week and off for 2 then on for 2weeks off for 1 week etc. Me and my partner have beem ttc for nearly 2years and are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. I was prescribed with metformin about 6montus ago but only managed to take it for about a month as i was diagnosed with depression and advised to stop taking metformin until depression had gone.
1907238 tn?1340711313 i was on metformin for almost year and clomid for 6 months only conceived once and ended up with MC. also if you are over weight they give metformin to help you reduce weight as well especially in PCOS. Avatar m tn My wife has suffered from depression for several years now and has been on so many different medications that I believe have caused more health issues. Her doctor had her taking Geodon to help her sleep along with Zoloft for depression. She started to gain weight and became even more reclusive so we found a specialist out of town to check her Thyroid.
Avatar n tn Hi, I dont think Metformin is the cause for your problem. I have used it for more than 3 months and did not have any problem during AF. I have PCOS and hence metformin was prescribed for insulin resistance. btw why were you taking metformin?
Avatar n tn The doctor then put me on Metformin. I have been on Metformin for almost a year now and my dose was increased from 500mg to 1000mg a day. I am have several dry skin, my hair keeps falling off, and diarrhea. But one thing I don't understand is that since I have been on Metformin for so long, it does keep sort of regulate my period every month. But my testosterone and triglycerides are still high. Now, I have to deal with this sort of kidney pain and back pain everyday.
Avatar f tn Metformin, is not for depression...it's really meant to help with diabetes and insulin resistant. I don't have either, but my doctor thought it would be great if I started on it, and really I am happy I did. It helps with your cycles over time to be more normal. I've been on it, this will be going on 3 years in September 2010 and I started it while on birth control. I stopped my birth control in August 2009 and have had a normal period with cycles ranging in 28-32 days.
1408380 tn?1281388562 I have been taking Metformn for over 3 years for my PCOS and never had an issue with kidney pain. I actually have had no problems at all taking it, I lost 50 lbs on it and stopped making cysts. my question to you is how much were you taking a day?
Avatar n tn Is Lantus and Metformin ok to take or is the Metformin harmful to my liver? I know several with Hep-c who take Metformin.
Avatar n tn Hi there. I am about to start metformin for my PCOS next week at the start of my new cycle. Will this help me to ovulate and help improve my chances of conceiving? We are trying for baby number two, this will be our ninth month. I was put on clomid 50mg to help us conceive our first baby two years ago. My transvaginal sonogram showed i have PCOS on my left ovary, but my right ovary was clear. I also have a tilted uterus. Would this hinder our chances of conceiving?
944631 tn?1246280052 Metformin is a glucose lowering drug, phentermine is for weight loss and dicyclomine is for irritable bowel. You need to ask this doctor if he has run a glucose test on you and if he has determined that you are diabetic. I am a diabetic and I take metformin...if you are NOT a diabetic, ask the doctor why he has put you on metformin!! Metformin will lower your blood sugar and you need to be informed about possible hypoglycemic events...call your doctor now! Please let us know what he says...
Avatar n tn "...metformin which made me physically very drained, not tired or weak, but very loose,..." All medications come with side effects. Not everyone tolerates them equally. One side effect of Metformin is weakness. Also, taking Metformin in quarters is below the recommended dose and is so minimal, I highly doubt it has any affect on helping to lower your glucose [blood sugar] level.
20797525 tn?1510602613 I've been trying to lose weight for a long time. It seems the older I get the heavier. My most recent A1C was 5.4 ( which is higher than I'd like.) I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 11 years old. I've never been good at remembering to take my meds. I was prescribed Metformin 50mg to start. Now as an 11-year-old child I expected to feel better instantly. I was angry when that didn't happen and I saw no immediate results. I stopped taking the medication out of sheer anger.
Avatar f tn m having with my treatment. I have been diagnosed with PCOS for more then 5 years now. Originally I started on the regular Metformin but due to gastritis could not continue. While I was on it I lost weight my monthly cycle was regular. Some time later my symptoms re-occurred. I began taking Metformin XR (slow release) and suffered no side effects. However, my symptoms are getting worse and the medication is not helping. I am on a low fat low carb diet and get regular exercise daily.
Avatar f tn Hello I'm new to this forum. I was diagnosed with PCOS several years ago. I began gaining weight when I began my menstual cycle when I was 8 years old. I gained 70 pounds within 5 months and by the time I was 12 years old I was at 260 pounds. I am now 27 years old and at 368 pounds. I have tried everything to lose weight. I've been on Metformin for over 3 years now, eat a 1500 calorie, low carb diet, exercies, and nothing.
Avatar f tn The cycle only lasted 22days I bleed for 4 days which is the norm for me. I am currently on cd25 waiting for AF. I was wondering has metformin regulated you gals cycle and was it consistent? You know 30, 32, 34 day cycles. If you laedies could tell me your experiences on metformin that would be great. How long did you experience the side effects? I ate fruit yesterday and it went right through me. I thought you shouldn't eat greasy food with it.
Avatar n tn I have been Type I diabetic for 24 years and have two children. I did not know what metformin was, so I did some research on the internet and found out it is also called glucophage. Here is a website you might find helpful: http://otispregnancy.org/pdf/metformin.pdf. It was very informative.
Avatar n tn Is it best to take actos in the morning or evening? I am on metformin and glipized, as well. Is it best to take actos along with these medications to be more effective? This discussion is related to Best time to take meds.
594189 tn?1386916607 Thank you so much for posting that. I know there are a lot of excellent "diets" out there; often people start on them and DO lose weight. The problem is that the diets are not "realistic", therefore, most people can't stick with them over the long haul, so they gain back the weight they lost, often adding even more than they started with.
Avatar f tn I have a regular doctor she put me on metformin I started it on sept 24th I'm not pregnant yet. Would I have to go to an ob/gym in order to get a prescription for clomid or would my regular doctor be able to. Me and my husband have been ttc for well over a year and I just found out I have pcos early sept. I'm a mess with all the worry and depression. Please any Info would help. Have a nice percentage of women acheive pregnancy on clomid? We really want a child.
1507801 tn?1289853453 i am 25 and was recently diagnosed with pcos, although i believe that i've had it since i started puberty. once i started menstruating, i started gaining weight despite my efforts to lose weight. i've been on diets for most of my life and nothing has really worked. in high school and college, i was active and played tennis all the time. right after college, i worked at a horse barn where i mucked stalls and dealt with horses for 8-10hours. i was still gaining weight.
Avatar f tn My second child went full term; I stayed on the metformin. (You need to come off it for breastfeeding though once bub is born as it passes through the milk). I hope this helps. Be gentle with yourselves; this is a lifestyle change which can take some adjustment to, but it is a change for the better. You will feel better mentally and physically...
604185 tn?1233960857 I have been on Metformin for many years now (for fertility reasons). I think its the best. I am on my 6th IVF (and I hope it works this time!). One of my fertility doctors took me off metformin for 3 of my ivf tries and the results were much much worse. From everything I have read, it seems that metformin is a safe medication and you can stay on it all through your pregnancy (unless you have liver issues).
