the metformin not only helps to regulate ovulation, if you are not ovulating on your own, but it also helps your glucose and insulin levels which is a big issue in someone with PCOS. I was diagnosed with PCOS after my 2nd mc and started with an RE. We tested everything under the sun, came up with PCOS and insulin resistance and a few other things that could have been slight possible issues with my miscarriages.

Make sure your doctor monitor's your blood electrolyte levels! Metformin is a wonderful drug BUT can cause DEATH from lactic acidosis...and it is most likely to happen when your first start taking it...make sure your doctor is doing blood tests! Metformin now carries a black box warning from the FDA because of this. Also, keep hard candy with you at all times in case of hypoglycemia. Are you monitoring your blood sugar levels? Metformin is a diabetes drug that lowers blood sugar.

I keep hearing about taking Baby Asprin prior to conception. I know it has something to do with a clotting disorder but has ANYONE taken it that doesn't have a particular reason to. My Dr. says that there isn't much recearch to support taking it but it surely won't hurt. I'd Like to hear what any of you have to say that did take it.
The doctor has said i may be ovulating but maybe not strongly enough for conception. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this cycle with Clomid... I wish you the best and pray that you get a BFP very very soon.
As long as I have no large cyst I'm going to start clomid soon, but should I push for Metformin? WIll it really decrease my chance of miscarriage? I just don't want to have another one. Does it have horrible side effects? WIll it hurt if it turns out I didn't need it at all? Also, it's a cat B and not considered totally safe for pregnancy use though I know people take it. I just need to consider the risks. Thank you!
I would start taking the prometrium a couple days after ovulation so the uterus is ready for implantation should conception occur. And don't go off of it until after you are positive it is a negative HPT (like at 17 days past ovulation). If the HPT is positive - stay on the prometrium!! But I would also OK it with your doctor first. That's great that you are on the aspirin and folic acid already. Don't be jealous - it will happen for you too!!
ok thanks for the info. by the way i got my prescription and i take 2 500mg of metformin a day for thirty days. i haven't started taking them yet because i haven't started my AF. and if i dont start i have to take another med. called aygestin and my doc said do not take them together so im going to wait and see if i start this week. last month i needed aygestin to start my AF because i hadn't had it for 9 mnths, due to the PCOS.

The first month I started taking metformin, I had a cycle. It's n ot regular, but I had one. Today, is my seocnd day taking clomid. I have three more days to go. Hello, Most women with PCOS don't ovulate and thus cannot become pregnant. So the first treatment option for infertility is usually the administration of drugs to induce ovulation like Clomid. Secondly Glucophage or Metformin is an insulin-sensitizing agent that is sometimes used in conjunction with Clomid. Other than that, Injectable HCG, Hmg, FSH, GnRH and assisted reproduction like IUI, IVF, GIFT AND ICSI may also be used.
My period started the middle of jan.17 and it went off for one day feb.
My doc ordered some blood work and did a vaginal ultrasound. At first my doc thought she was going to put me on metformin. However, after receiving my test results she changed her mind. All my blood work came back normal (no issues with any if my hormones). My ultrasound came back showing I had poly cystic ovaries (both left and right). Everything else on my ultrasound looked normal. My doc has now decided to put me on Clomid.
Dont let doctors tell you that you are too young for treatment its never too early to begin treatment for pcos if it is left untreated symptoms could worsen drastically. I dont recommend buying stuff online and creating your own dosage, you dont know how your body will react to clomiphene you could over stimulate your ovulation or harm yourself, consult a different doctor, one who is willing to assist you in your conception.

When he was about 13 months old (December), I finally got my period after not having any at all since he was born. Since then, it hasn't really stopped for more than a day or so at a time. I am not always bleeding heavy, sometimes it is just spotting, but it has been 7 months now with no end in sight. Also, on a couple occasions, I passed very large clots. Twice they were maybe just a little smaller than my closed fist. I have had pain/aching that accompanies my period.
That would give you a cycle of around 33 days, which is perfectly normal for a lot of people. I hope the Clomid and Metformin is your lucky combination! Sarah9010: Welcome! I also think 15mm is a great follie size on that day. Sounds like you're much better of this month and I'm sure the trigger will help. Mine was actually 20mm today (cd13) and they told me that was really good, so it was probably about the same size as yours 2 days ago. That's awesome that you already have 2 kids.
I am so sorry for your losses. Unfortunately, we all know too well how difficult it is and how others often do not understand. No matter how wonderful your husband is, men do not understand the bond and the hormones that go along with a pregnancy. It is completely normal to grieve and be scared about being pregnant. Do you have any idea what might have caused either miscarriage?
I read so much about miscarreges that I am frightened that this can happen to me now that I have waited for this moment for almost 3 years!!!!! I am praying for everyone, luck is around the corner for you all!!!!!!!! I will keep you posted about Monday's blood test, I hope it is rising!!!! LOVE the WORLD! Will tell my DB today after work...

I have PCOS and I have been taking metformin for 3 months. I found out I was pregnant not long after starting metformin but I also found out it was a tubal pregnancy. I had a shot to remove it and had a wait forEVER before we could try again. I started my first round of Clomid 50 mg on the 24 days 3-7. Fingers crossed it works the first time! I have not had any side affects yet so we will see! What about you all?
plus after doing some reading it sounded like it would do the same thing metformin would do for me. Which is something my doctor suggested if we wanted to get some help. So I figure glucose control wouldn't hurt. ANYWAY, this is my first cycle since starting the vinegar and where i am only a few days into my cycle I have noticed that I don't have any clots yet, as I would have in previous cycles.
Ok... thanks for making a new post. It would take like an hour for my computer to load the other one. lol. No new symptoms here! Still have sore bbs though. How about everyone else?
HI, Women with PCOS often have difficulty in normal ovulation and conception. You may continue with the metformin and also try to lose weight if overweight. Induction of ovulation with the help of drugs will help you to conceive. Consult a gynaecologist and an infertility expert for an evaluation. Hope this helps.
As far as fertility goes, the recent studies show that a combination of medications such as Metformin plus Clomid (or Femara) is the best for regulating ovulation and increasing conception rates. If you DO start the Metformin, you may also want to ask your doc for Clomid. If you do conceive, you should also ask your doc when to stop the Metformin. Good luck!
Is it possible that I need a higher dosage of metformin? I have heard that you should wait a year before seeking assistance with conception... I got pregnant so easily the first time around! What should my next step be?
