Metformin dose

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin dose

glucophage

Avatar m tn 2 g of Metformin in close to the maximum dose. Do make sure you take some b vitamin supplement as metformin can decrease your body's absorption of b vitamins. Recommend you consider and look into low carb/ higher (healthy) fat diet. This approach is actually now being recognized as one of the better ways to deal with diabetes. Are you able to swim / walk in water or do non-weight bearing exercise, it may help (as well as with function).
Avatar n tn After initiating metformin, many of the hormonal problems, including weight gain despite daily exercise and healthy eating habits, have greatly improved. However, several months after achieving a dose of 1250 mg of the metformin ER, I am experiencing profound food sensitivity and allergies that have been further complicated by colitis, vitamin D deficiency, fatigue, and chronic hives. The fatigue seems to persist despite vitamin D supplementation.
Avatar f tn You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed. Do not change your medication dose or schedule without your doctor's advice.
233562 tn?1282768382 I started my Metformin Thursday night because I didn't know how it would effect me. Well I woke up Friday morning extremely nauseous(sp?) but I felt better after I ate so I took my second dose. After that it was all down hill. I was vomitting and had diarrhea (TMI?) all day long. I couldn't even keep down water. Same thing all day saturday. Saturday night I was able to keep down a few crackers and water so I didn't go to the doc figured the medicine was leaving my system.
Avatar n tn I take 2000 mg METFORMIN and a dose of insulin as well
Avatar f tn m not sure if maybe I have a mild form of the flu and it just so happens that I upped my Metformin dose at the same time. Since not feeling well, I have dropped a couple pounds: my appetite has gone from being increased to drastically decreased (it doesn't help that any time I eat my stomach feels worse). I also think these pounds are fairly superficial since I have also been on my period and my weight tends to spike at the beginning then fall once it's over.
Avatar n tn Correction to my comment; "For the long-acting form, metformin ER, the starting dose is metformin ER 500 mg once daily, and the maximum dosing is metformin ER 2000 mg once daily (or metformin ER 1000 mg twice daily).
Avatar f tn I have been on metformin for a year and there is the issue of your dose and all that jazz....for me I have to keep my dose low or bad stomach issues and mine is still not regular...
Avatar f tn This is something you should discuss with your Pharmacist as dose, duration/length of time taken, and type of Metformin may have contributing factors.
4067667 tn?1349533022 So, my doc gave me clomid 50mg to help me ovulate and on day 21 I was asked to check my progesterone, but Im still not ovulating. Now my doc dose up my clomid to 100mg and she also gave me metformin. Im hoping to get pregnant. Have anyone successfully conceive on second cycle of clomid+metformin? Thank you.
Avatar f tn with my menses I was on fertility drugs to help with ovulation so lets see if I will ovulate with just the metformin... anyone ever tried vitex together with metformin I heard/read that vitex helps with O ... and regulating AF just wanted to hear some stories... ok .. good luck to all SSBD!!!!
Avatar f tn Recently my dose of metformin was increased to 2-500s night and morning. I developed h pylori and direarra. They treated the h pilori, howeverstill have direarra. I have noticed the metformin pills passing through completely whole. I have taken them apart, they still have powder in them. Also since the h pylori and increased metformin my blood sugar testing has gone to as high as 459. Went to dr and he put me on insulin. This has gradually brought blood sugars down to 114 and 250.
Avatar n tn Maybe you need something else. Maybe a smaller dose of glipizide with the metformin.
Avatar f tn and put on Metformin. I have been on this medication for a little over a week, and I have noticed that I am starting to have a difficult time concentrating and am always fall asleep while standing tired. I am also getting light headed and dizzy even when my sugars are within acceptable range. Do these side effects go away with time or are they things I need to discuss with my doctor when I see him next.
Avatar n tn 500 mg is a low dose, so if you miss it at your normal time, you could still take it any time throughout the day. [Maximum daily dose of metformin is up to 2500 mcg/day]. Are you monitoring your blood sugars? This will be helpful for you to identify what foods do and don't raise your blood sugars. Many people find that eating low carb (cutting most sugars, grains, fruits) will be helpful in controlling blood sugars as well.
Avatar f tn hey guys im suppose to start metformin tomorrow and am a little, well alot concerned. While researching it I found that a possible deadly side effect is this lactic acidosis. Has anyone heard of this? How common is it?
Avatar n tn If a person is taking the lowest dose of Metformin, has changed their diet and a1c results are at 5.0, how do they know if the results are due to the drug or change in diet? Can they stop talking Metformin and continue controlling their blood sugar with diet alone?
475740 tn?1208262865 I started metformin about 3 weeks ago. My side effects diminished within about a week and a half. I took a dose with food at breakfast and another dose at dinner. I just kept telling myself that in the drug statement paperwork it said "your doctor has prescribed this medication because he/she has weighed the benifits greater than the risks or side effects". I take it for diabetes and PCOS.
Avatar n tn What I think you should ask your doctor for is a recommendation to a nutrionist if weight loss is your main goal and reason for taking metformin. Also find out why you were prescribed metformin (ie was it to control your menstrual cyle, maintain or help with the PCOS, help you acheive a pregnancy in the long run, or for another health reason like diabetes, etc).
Avatar n tn Not everyone tolerates them equally. One side effect of Metformin is weakness. Also, taking Metformin in quarters is below the recommended dose and is so minimal, I highly doubt it has any affect on helping to lower your glucose [blood sugar] level. You should check with your doctor about other oral diabetes medications, that is, if you wish to continue treating your potential diabetes. "...I do not have any symptoms at all." Not everyone has diabetes symptoms.
Avatar f tn So, my doctor prescribed me Metformin ER 500mg and I am petrified of it. I have heard so many horror stories about it so I am looking for some positive feedback. I desperately need help because medically I am a mess and I am the heaviest that I have ever been. Any positive success stories out there?
Avatar m tn I have been on Synthyroid since may but now I was recently prescribe Metformin. I forgot to ask if it safe to take Metformin with Synthyroid at the same time. Does anyone if it would be ok?
Avatar f tn Metformin only has bad side affects if you: don't start with a small dose first, and then work your way up to the higher dose OR if you don't watch the fat content in your foods. I've been on it 2 years and never had bad side affects.
Avatar f tn Started on Metformin less than 1 week ago. I had to stop, it made me so weak, lethargic, stomach pain, and running to the bathroom every 20 minutes. This is it going to work. I can't believe I stayed at work. Anybody else have that reaction.
