Avatar f tn I was prescribed with metformin about 6montus ago but only managed to take it for about a month as i was diagnosed with depression and advised to stop taking metformin until depression had gone. My last period was the end of september early octover 2013. I have taken a doctors urine test and it came back negative. (Which is a downfall as ive put on abit of weight around my tummy) can pcos change your periods from one extreme to the next like this?
Avatar n tn The doctor then put me on Metformin. I have been on Metformin for almost a year now and my dose was increased from 500mg to 1000mg a day. I am have several dry skin, my hair keeps falling off, and diarrhea. But one thing I don't understand is that since I have been on Metformin for so long, it does keep sort of regulate my period every month. But my testosterone and triglycerides are still high. Now, I have to deal with this sort of kidney pain and back pain everyday.
Avatar f tn Metformin, is not for depression...it's really meant to help with diabetes and insulin resistant. I don't have either, but my doctor thought it would be great if I started on it, and really I am happy I did. It helps with your cycles over time to be more normal. I've been on it, this will be going on 3 years in September 2010 and I started it while on birth control. I stopped my birth control in August 2009 and have had a normal period with cycles ranging in 28-32 days.
20797525 tn?1510602613 I've been trying to lose weight for a long time. It seems the older I get the heavier. My most recent A1C was 5.4 ( which is higher than I'd like.) I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 11 years old. I've never been good at remembering to take my meds. I was prescribed Metformin 50mg to start. Now as an 11-year-old child I expected to feel better instantly. I was angry when that didn't happen and I saw no immediate results. I stopped taking the medication out of sheer anger.
Avatar f tn Before going on metformin my weight was 277. I was put on metformin seven months ago and things have changed alot for me I dont eat as much as I use too. I take 500 mg twice a day. I take at lunch and dinner. The weight seem to just fall off without me really doing anything like execrise. Before I was tested for being insulin resistanced I craved sugary foods like candy. I would buy bags and bags of candy, but once i started metformin all those cravings stopped.
Avatar f tn Life Extension has not seen any evidence suggesting that n-acetylcysteine would be contraindicated with metformin. On a side note, because metformin may cause malabsorption of vitamin B12, we would suggest taking methylcobalamin to maintain optimal B12 status. Life Extension offers this product in 1mg or 5mg dose; here are links to the description of this product: Methylcobalamin (1mg) http://www.***.***/Vitamins-Supplements/Item00536/Methylcobalamin.
Avatar f tn I have a regular doctor she put me on metformin I started it on sept 24th I'm not pregnant yet. Would I have to go to an ob/gym in order to get a prescription for clomid or would my regular doctor be able to. Me and my husband have been ttc for well over a year and I just found out I have pcos early sept. I'm a mess with all the worry and depression. Please any Info would help. Have a nice percentage of women acheive pregnancy on clomid? We really want a child.
Avatar f tn Weight reduction must be the first thing to be done if you are overweight. Metformin may also give good results. Symptomatic treatment for hirsuitism or induction of ovulation may be done as per the requirement. Consult a gynaecologist and an endocrinologist for an opinion. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I know that PCOS kids can suffer from increased stress and depression. And I know Metformin can cause some kind of vid.B defficancy, that inturn can increase mood swings. I'v recently lost my Aunt to depression and my best friend and i faught and she just left me shortly after. I don't wana admit I'm depressed and I don't Saba scare my parents. Any thoughts?
1326513 tn?1276518001 ve had some pretty bad cases of it, but my hormones are being controled with birth control and Metformin (metformin, is a commonly used medication for those who have diabetes....but can help with PCOS). PCOS, if you do have it...can sometimes be controled with diet only, such as losing about 10% of your current body weight...(so let's say your 150lbs, you should try and lose 15lbs and see if that helps with your hormones and period). Now if losing weight is not working, or helping...
420308 tn?1203041262 I was diagnosed with depression and generalized anxiety disorder about 10 years ago. During those 10 years I was prescribed a number of different combinations of medications like Risperdal, Trazadone, Paxil, Trileptal, Klonopin, Geodon, to name a few. Some of those combinations had horrible side effects and never really relieved my anxiety or depression. Now I'm on 112.5mg of Effexor ER, 200mg of Lamictal, 60 mg of Buspar, 1200 mg of Neurontin, 600mg of Seroquel and .

Avatar f tn Are you taking any medications for your PCOS, like Metformin/Glucophage? Ovulation on Clomid usually occurs within 5-10 days after the last pill, but since you didn't have your period, it's hard to tell when it will occur because you don't really know what cycle day you're on.
Avatar f tn I have been sick with a cold/flu for three weeks. Two days ago, I developed diarrhea. It seemed to occur immediately after eating. Today, the diarrhea was bright yellow and I passed something the size of a small grape (also yellow in color). I'm currently on synthroid (for hypothyroidism), effexor (for depression), and metformin & byetta (for insulin resistence). I've been on the Byetta for nearly a month, but have not suffered any side effects to date.
3138665 tn?1342790842 I have pcos and my dr has me on metformin. I have a lot of other things wrong with me fertility wise. I'm just about 6 weeks after my 3rd ivf. Our 2nd ivf ended in mc. Pregnancy is definetly possible it just may take a little longer. Best of luck to you!
Avatar f tn Can a person who is not a diabetic take metformin for weight loss.. I need to loose 60lbs i have tried other prescription's diet pill's and i'am immune to them they work for awhile then nothing.
Avatar f tn Greetings everyone, I need your help and input if you will My friend has PCOS and has to use birth control pills to handle her problem with her period (if she stop taking the pills she won't have her period), she have a healthy diet and exercise yet the side effect of the pills are just so not right, border on depression, she doesn't feel like talking with anyone and the mere though of engaging in a conversion saps here energy, not always but it is there for long periods of time So wha
Avatar f tn My husband and i are trying to concieve and i recently saw a doctor who is trying to help. He gave me a prescription for Metformin 500 mg to take daily, and clomid 50 mg to take on days 4-8 after i start. Then he told me to start taking the ovulation prediction tests starting on day 11 through day 15 and to "go to town" (as he put it lol) for the three days after a positive OPT... I started the metformin Oct. 8. I got my period on Oct. 23 and it ended Oct 28.
2121477 tn?1334933569 Hmmm...sorry to hear your so frustrated but I've realized that finding a doc that knows how to treat PCOS is like finding a needle in a haystack. Have you seen your endcrinologist, im assuming you have and had bloodwork done since u mentioned your prolactin levels. I was diagnosed in 2006 and no one ever tried to 'treat' me outside of Birth control pills until i mentioned i was TTC. At that point my blood tests were run and found all levels normally BUT testosterone was elevated.
Avatar m tn i was at a party and a girl who had recently became a mother, put breastmilk on her finger and put it in my mouth, I have read that enzymes and stomach acid would kill the virus, but I am on anti-depressants, tablets that reduce stomach acid and metformin for type 2 diabetes, would I still have the neccesary enzymes and stomach acid to kill the virus taking into consideration my medical conditions, I also do not know her HIV status do not know a lot about her
Avatar f tn Within the last 2 weeks I started tappering off of 75mg Effexor XR, stopped taking my birth control pills, started Metformin for insulin resistance and 150mg Wellbutrin XL. I am doing all of this because my husband and I are trying to have our first child. I suppose it would be best to add that I have taken Effexor XR on and off for the last 5 years, went up and down from 75 to 150. I have a love/hate relationship with this medication.
Avatar f tn I had to stop taking metformin completely as soon as I got my pregnancy confirmed. I was taking it for PCOS and insulin resistance. My dr said I'll probably start taking it after delivery and after I finished breastfeeding.
