I ended up going to the dr and he put me on metformin... Metformin will help with your periods...now that im on the metformin I have my period every month.. It helps women with psco.. I would talk with your dr about metformin and clomid... It helped me I have 5 kids... Good luck !!
/2 weeks. My doctor has not prescribed me metformin to help regulate my periods and promote ovulation. I am not diabetic, but I am overweight and that doesn't help either so I am going to work on that too. Hopefully this will help. Good luck to you.
We are overly careful with protection and pay attention to detail. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue on Metformin, or at all. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. I will be taking a pregnancy test today or tomorrow, so when I call my doctor I can give him confirmation that I am not pregnant. I just figured I'd ask in the meantime. Thanks!
I have been taking metformin for a week and have lost 19 pounds i am taking it for pcos and it has worked wonders i also have a normal cycle now i dont know if you have one or not but if you dont hopefully it will help
I have been taking it for 6 months now, and my periods are still few and far between. I have not seen any change in my period....my average cycle length is 42 days. My fiance and I have been ttc for almost 6 months but are not having any luck. Did your periods become normal? I have lost 15 lbs since my diagnosis, and continue to lose weight. What is your experience with metformin??? I do know that my testosterone level is now normal, but nothing else seems to have changed.
I am not overweight at all, but I do have the extra hair growth and infrequent periods which the metformin is supposed to help with. Has your cycle been regulated with the drug?
did they have you tried metformin yet? the first thing my doc. gaved me was met. to help me lose weight and to hopefully help me ovulate..but since it dint work i just did clomid this month..and im waiting till May 11 to get my BFP..they usually like to combine met. with clomid..so i would defenetly talk to you doctor...and good job on the weight lost..keep it up!
When will it start regulating my periods? Some of my other symptoms are getting better and I don't want to up the dose because it still makes me a bit nauseous occasionally. Not having sex, husband is deployed in the army. Pregnancy is not in any way responsible for the irregular periods.
I have PCOSa and was diagnosed 6 years ago, I went on the pill for 4 and a half years, I came off of it july 10 and have been trying for a baby but in the last 13 months I have only had 3 periods, its common with pcos, if u have found u have put on weight (like myself) this could be related to PCOS, but if u do have this u will find it harder to lose the weight xx
I spoke with my doc and he started me on metformin and povera. I stopped taking metformin after about a month because the tummy problems never went away! (sorry TMI ) Well I used provera from sept 2010 - May 2011 and did not ovulate once even with 3 of those months including Clomid. Provera does not make you ovulate it just induces a period, metformin lowers your insulin and clomid is for ovulation. Clomid doesn't work for everyone.
I too am on Metformin, I started at 1000 mg daily and now I am on 15000. Haven't really regulated my periods yet. But i have lost about 36 pounds since May 5. Which is wonderful! I am TTC, so hopefully this will work!!! Good luck ladies!!!!
ask your doc about metformin.. I have read so much on line about metformin actually regulating women's periods when they have PCOS.. that way you don't have to take birth control pills if you are wanting to conceive...
when I missed my period all that happened was - white discharge and cramping everyday.. I was diagnoised with PCOS and my doctor put me on Metformin in Febuary since then ive had normal periods aroun 13th-16th now last month it has not came on at all but my cramps are getting worse.. I hope this month it wont come on I want to be pregnant sooo badly but im not working hard at any more because for some reason it makes me sad when I get my hopes up..
I've been on metformin for about a month and a half I take 1500mg/daily. I got my first period with it about 10 days after I started but I didn't have a regular cycle. The cycle only lasted 22days I bleed for 4 days which is the norm for me. I am currently on cd25 waiting for AF. I was wondering has metformin regulated you gals cycle and was it consistent? You know 30, 32, 34 day cycles. If you laedies could tell me your experiences on metformin that would be great.
I will continue taking Metformin since it seems to be helping me ovulate and regulate my menstrual cycles...and I will continue praying for my little miracle. Like you, I've inquired about Clomid but my DR has advised me to stay on Metformin, try to loose weight, and continue TTC...if too much time passes and still no baby....then she will put me on Clomid to see if it works....Good luck on your next appointment and definitely let me know how it goes!
If the metformin seems to be regulating your periods you probably have better odds of it happening. It never really made my periods shorter but I took femara and got pregnant right away. Funny - femara never gave me any side effects at all. And I thought I heard that the side effects from femara were usually much better than clomid. Maybe you are just sensitive to it. How much did you take? i think I took 5mg for 5 days but I think you can also take 2.5mg for 5 days.
im 29 years old , not over weight and dont have severe symtoms of pcos , only thing i have so far is irregular periods (without both meds ) and some excess hair on chin thanks alot for the response will be much appretiated since all this confusion kind of frustrating .
Wow Thanks everyone, I'm on day 8 of my period now, and still bleeding so now when should I have sex etc if I stop today or tomorrow and if it doesnt work im going to ask about the Metformin. Thanks for all the help, and I do have PCOS and that website is an amazing resource Thanks! I'll try the ovulation kits!
As far as fertility goes, the recent studies show that a combination of medications such as Metformin plus Clomid (or Femara) is the best for regulating ovulation and increasing conception rates. If you DO start the Metformin, you may also want to ask your doc for Clomid. If you do conceive, you should also ask your doc when to stop the Metformin. Good luck!
I have not had my periods from 3.5 months and when diagonised found to be suffering from polysycts. Now the doctor has adviced me to take Metformin as I am planning to concieve as well. Please let me know if I can take it now even without having periods?
I went to a gyno and she was going to start me on metformin which may promote ovulation and if that didn't work after six months she would put me on clomid. I was reluctant to take drugs so i gave accupuncture with chinese medicine a go. For three short months i recieved accupuncture evfery three weeks and i took two doses of herbs. On the third month i conceived and now i am 22 weeks pregnant. A lot of people are scared of accupuncture and i was too.
i am of normal/underweight....typically metformin does a wonderful job at regulating periods or at least helping! my dr didn't want to becuase of my wieght so instead i ate a REALLy low carb diet (which was really hard to do) and thats the month we got preg! i think that exercising on a regular basiss >20min of cardio 4 times a week also helps regulate periods and hormones and has been shown to help in ovulatory problems..
Did you do the glucose/insulin tolerance test. Maybe your glucose levels are fine, but your insulin is high, because your body is resistant to it??? and that is why the doctor put you on metformin?
What medications are you on for your PCOS? Metformin is great for regulating periods and preventing cysts from forming, you just have endure a short period of gastrointestinal issues. I'm on my first round of clomid this month and feeling positive. The best advice I can give you is to relax and keep yourself healthy.wishing lots of luck and baby dust.
I had tried the diet and exercise approach, and losing weight caused me to be able to have a period, even though I was very irregular (I'd have maybe 2 periods a year). I tried the Metformin, and that didn't work for me, but last March I went on Ortho Evra (the Patch) and that really worked for me. I can totally understand the crazy mood swings, because I was there. You could also just need more time to get used to the hormones in the Yasmin.
Hey my darling, i went through the same, i didnt get my periods for two months and all my test came out negative, but two - three weeks okay i had to positive in two day. so ya im pregnant going for my first check up on 21 dec cant wait! well hope all turns out great for you!
I have stopped visiting my doctor because I was only put on progeterone for about 5 yrs but no results of regulating my periods. There were side effects from this tabs like excessive hair growth on face and terrible head aches. I have stopped taking my tabs from November, 2007 and since then I have no periods either. Please advice me , is there any hope for me to get pregnant ????
