Avatar f tn /2 weeks. My doctor has not prescribed me metformin to help regulate my periods and promote ovulation. I am not diabetic, but I am overweight and that doesn't help either so I am going to work on that too. Hopefully this will help. Good luck to you.
801413 tn?1333539276 Okay, I've been taking metformin for about four months now. When will it start regulating my periods? Some of my other symptoms are getting better and I don't want to up the dose because it still makes me a bit nauseous occasionally. Not having sex, husband is deployed in the army. Pregnancy is not in any way responsible for the irregular periods.
Avatar n tn I have not had my periods from 3.5 months and when diagonised found to be suffering from polysycts. Now the doctor has adviced me to take Metformin as I am planning to concieve as well. Please let me know if I can take it now even without having periods?
Avatar n tn ask your doc about metformin.. I have read so much on line about metformin actually regulating women's periods when they have PCOS.. that way you don't have to take birth control pills if you are wanting to conceive...
Avatar f tn i am of normal/underweight....typically metformin does a wonderful job at regulating periods or at least helping! my dr didn't want to becuase of my wieght so instead i ate a REALLy low carb diet (which was really hard to do) and thats the month we got preg! i think that exercising on a regular basiss >20min of cardio 4 times a week also helps regulate periods and hormones and has been shown to help in ovulatory problems..
1546050 tn?1293688410 Did you do the glucose/insulin tolerance test. Maybe your glucose levels are fine, but your insulin is high, because your body is resistant to it??? and that is why the doctor put you on metformin?
Avatar n tn I have PCOSa and was diagnosed 6 years ago, I went on the pill for 4 and a half years, I came off of it july 10 and have been trying for a baby but in the last 13 months I have only had 3 periods, its common with pcos, if u have found u have put on weight (like myself) this could be related to PCOS, but if u do have this u will find it harder to lose the weight xx
193609 tn?1292180293 I have been taking it for 6 months now, and my periods are still few and far between. I have not seen any change in my period....my average cycle length is 42 days. My fiance and I have been ttc for almost 6 months but are not having any luck. Did your periods become normal? I have lost 15 lbs since my diagnosis, and continue to lose weight. What is your experience with metformin??? I do know that my testosterone level is now normal, but nothing else seems to have changed.

801413 tn?1333539276 Has anyone after starting metformin gone from irregular periods to none at all? I've been on metformin for almost a month (trying to regulate periods to get pregnant) and I'm on cd 81. Thinking of stopping it. While I am on metformin because of TTC there is no way I am pregnant cause I haven't had sex or anything close to it since December and have had multiple ultrasounds from January to March for cysts.
Avatar f tn im 29 years old , not over weight and dont have severe symtoms of pcos , only thing i have so far is irregular periods (without both meds ) and some excess hair on chin thanks alot for the response will be much appretiated since all this confusion kind of frustrating .
5364389 tn?1366923995 when I missed my period all that happened was - white discharge and cramping everyday.. I was diagnoised with PCOS and my doctor put me on Metformin in Febuary since then ive had normal periods aroun 13th-16th now last month it has not came on at all but my cramps are getting worse.. I hope this month it wont come on I want to be pregnant sooo badly but im not working hard at any more because for some reason it makes me sad when I get my hopes up..
193609 tn?1292180293 I'm thinking about BBT also I've been taking metformin since April 09 and my periods have been btwn 22-33 days. I take 1500mg/day. My bf and I were ttc but we decided to chill this month so I don't take the femara 5mg that the RE prescribed me last month. I think I ovulated last month bc I had midcycle spotting which could have been implantation bleeding or ovulation.
Avatar f tn I've been on metformin for about a month and a half I take 1500mg/daily. I got my first period with it about 10 days after I started but I didn't have a regular cycle. The cycle only lasted 22days I bleed for 4 days which is the norm for me. I am currently on cd25 waiting for AF. I was wondering has metformin regulated you gals cycle and was it consistent? You know 30, 32, 34 day cycles. If you laedies could tell me your experiences on metformin that would be great.
Avatar n tn I spoke with my doc and he started me on metformin and povera. I stopped taking metformin after about a month because the tummy problems never went away! (sorry TMI ) Well I used provera from sept 2010 - May 2011 and did not ovulate once even with 3 of those months including Clomid. Provera does not make you ovulate it just induces a period, metformin lowers your insulin and clomid is for ovulation. Clomid doesn't work for everyone.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with pcos . I'm 22 about 5'9 and 248lbs. The. Doctor told me the weight loss would greatly help. I get depressed with the thought if not being able to conceive one day. I'm in metformin and have had regular periods for the past few months. I started walking in the morning and my bp has been good (yay). Also I take folic acid and iron supplements ) I'm anemic too ). Does anyone else have pcos at a young age? How do you manage it??
Avatar n tn I never knew that metformin was given to help get pregnant? Im on metformin for PCOS and it also helped me lose 40lbs. My doctor stated to me that it helps to get pregnant while taking this, but most women who have PCOS are on this drug to help with weight issues and insulin issues and also on bc pills to regulate a period (like me).
390645 tn?1233368437 There is one person responsible for every drug. Find out who is responsible for regulating Metformin, contact them, and ask them the question. In my experience they have been extremely helpful in answering such questions.
Avatar n tn I have acne and it has been a problem for years i have irregular periods and my weight is up and down. I want to know if using metphormin to treat acne is safe and effective. Has anyone else tried this as a method? I'm not trying to have a baby but i am trying to get my hormones working properly.
Avatar n tn My gynecologist started me on 500 mg of metformin and told me to lay off carbs and try to lose some weight. I had my first menstrual period about a month later. Losing weight will help a lot. It depends largely on if and how overweight you are. My doctor was very surprised that I had a cycle so soon on such a low dose, but I was dedicated and lost about 7 pounds in that first month taking Metformin. Good luck!
