metformin and kidney pain

Now, I have to deal with this sort of kidney pain and back pain everyday. Does anyone out there just like me? I am also hypothyroid. I am on Synthoid, Metformin and Lovaza (basic Omega-3 acid to help lower triglycerides.) If the medication does not lower my level, should I ask the doctor to look at other underlining causes?

I stopped metformin abruptly and started birth control around the same week I stopped the metformin, and so suddenly and intensely felt so much pain like I was dying. Its been 3 months and I haven't gotten better, I used to be so happy and hopefull now I feel completely hopeless, uneasy, and cannot enjoy anything. Will I ever get better??!!

I was taken off of it again and again my kidney function showed signs of improvement. I was put in metformin a 3rd time and within 3 months my kidneys showed issues again. I will never take this drug again and am looking for a lawyer to represent me.

I have been a diabetic since 1995, I have always taken Metformin as as of Monday my Doctor has told me that I have Chronic Kidney Disease and told to stop taking the Metformin. While that calmed down a bit I continued to feel nauseated and started to have muscle cramps in my shin, rapid heart rate, feeling out a breath, etc. I looked up adverse reactions to metformin on WebMd and saw that many sx were the same as what I was experiencing. My question is this. Is it safe to take Metformin when a person has cirrhosis? I am thinking of stopping the metformin; controlling my sugar level with diet and a supplement called Nopal cactus.

After this back pain , I got some brown spotting this morning. So I called my doc and did beta test . It came back normal . Hcg : 600 and projesterone : 27. So doc told me to do bedrest until I stop spotting . I still have some back pain but spotting seems to be stopped .

I was on metformin lantus and humalog then they took me off metformin and changed to levimer and humalog. My Dr made me a high risk patient so I get more visits. Its harder because I need to test more but its worth it. My Dr is also very curious on my body and my baby though because once I begay second trimester insulin made my sugars spike (600+) and ice cream, cake, candy etc would make me low (75-90) so I haven't been able to take my insulin.

I m diabetic and using metformin, but I red that are risks of kidney failure with the contrast if my kidneys are not working fine. My PD forgot that I was using metformin till I told him and told me to stop the medication for 2 weeks before the scan. If my kidney results comes with normal level of creatinine is it safe to do the contrast? Can a MRI without the contrast reveal any more than just a CT scan. I would rather pay for the MRI than CT scan with contrast.

My husband is a diabetic and takes lipitor, metformin & glybride and due to a hospital stay we were informed that he now has high pressure and he is in the beginning of kidney failure because his creatinine level was 5.2. Before we left the hospital the level came down to 4.6 and his blood pressure was down to 145/80. Now taking blood pressure medicine also but was taken off the metformin.

m going to have to disagree here and say get to the ER asap. Hard tissue and that much swelling with a kidney stone over 4mm usually means a blockage. With diabetes that could be deadly. I hope you get him in soon. Good Luck.

I have PCOS and I am taking metformin, and have not had a period in 39 days. I have taken a pregnancy test and it was negative....but I have heard that some people on metformin have boob pain once they start the meds.....does anyone else find that to be true? Will the pain go away?

Recently he started having a lot of joint pain. Now his ankles and feet are swelling. His sugar levels are doing great. We have been to the doctor and he has had several test done. All my labs tests were normal except diabetes. I had pain under armpits on chest and thighs n groin area. My internist told me its muscular neuropathy caused by diabetes. Put me on citalopram and painkillers. My 2HR glucose was 117 and after 2hrs 170 .generally my sugar level is higher above 150 at random. I still have under arm pain and thighs pain though it has lessened now. But when it returns ,I feel bouts of anxiety and stress. I'm not on diabetes treatment.

Hi, I am taking Glucophage (slow release Metformin) and have just been prescribed Januvia to take also. I have had stomach pains and upset stomach since being on them, the plus side is that I have lost weight so am very happy about that but wondered if anyone else has experienced the stomach pain and if so how long did it take for it to subside.
