Metformin and grapefruit

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin and grapefruit

glucophage

All I can say to that is if you are not IR or have type 2 diabetes you don't want to be on metformin. My husband is diabetic and needs it but why would you want to take it if you don't need it? Too much IR resistance information going around these days. Either your IR or your not. Tx life doesn't revolve around IR resistance, diabetes, obesity etc, etc. I think it's good to be aware, but all the information lately has been a bit much. Prior to tx fasting glucose was normal.
hi doc I take cozzar and metformin, I eat 1/2 grapefruit daily and i also drink ginger tea.
But the best meds for diabetes II and intracontradictions with Levo are a maintenance dose of Metformin (which helps weight loss too) and Diamycron. My partner takes Metform morning and night and 1 x lipitor in the morning with 1 x diamycron in the evening. The Diamycron is the one thats a fraction stronger than the Metformin. Maybe talk to your Doc about these meds. Hope that helps.
I tried for 5 yrs with ex, nothing, then I dropped 2 stone from being heart broken went back on metformin and found someone new and within first 2 weeks of being with him I feel pregnant. I think dropping 2 stone and making sure I took metformin every day helped. I had been takin it for years but kept stopping it.
I 28, healthy and arried for alost 4 years. My husband and I have been TTC for 17 months now with no luck :( I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and my dr has prescribed Clomid 100mg (two 50mg tablets daily) on days 3-7 which I am scheduled to begin around the 10th of March... I AM NERVOUS! does anyone know what the difference is with taking it right at start of cycle vs later (day 3-7)? I heard the chances of multiples are higher when taken later in AF as prescribed by Dr.?
There are online programs and programs where you have to go and do the first visit, and then everything is shipped to you. I am sorry but i am not able to post that information on this forum. i did not do any type of cleanse before starting the program. Good Luck!
With a full load of rbv and ntz aboard and low vl to boot I'd check VL weekly - you might be pleasantly surprised how soon that 1st und comes in. Good luck!
The dizziness resembled being carsick, with lightheadedness and occasional moments of nausea and feeling faint (but I never passed out). I had a CAT scan and blood work twice, and so far no diagnosis for the dizziness/fatigue. It got better for a few weeks but last week I began to have dizzy spells again, this time accompanied by maxillary sinus pressure. I had just switched allergy medications, from Nasonex to generic Flonase, right at the time my symptoms returned.
There is nothing wrong with you...I too take metformin and my cycles are anywhere from 2-3 days of actual bleeding and not real heavy either...It could be the metformin trying to get the hormones straightened out...just keep tracking your cycles and they should become more consistent...do you know whether or not you O on your own? If you do I would BD every other day starting at CD8 and then everyday from CD14-16...then resume every other day...
Simple question here, has anyone ever had a negative blood test and negative urine test and went on with their daily routine and a month or so later found out you were in fact pregnant while having ultrasound done. If this has happened to anyone or perhaps someone you know, please respond, I'd appreciate the information. Thanks.
WOW! 22 pounds is a lot of weight to loose in such a short period of time! Good for you!!! I hope that I am able to loose 22 pounds in the next couple of months. Are you following a diet plan and working out? I have not started working out yet....maybe one day...I don't have a diet plan either I am just trying to make good choices and watch my portions. This way I know that when I stop the shots and medicine I won't gain it all back. Lets hope!!! Best of Luck to you...
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
My sisters got PCOS and she takes Metformin 500mg twice a day and she said its really helped regulate her periods and there not as heavy or painful! Shes only 21 and not in a steady relationship but when she is ready to try for a family they gynae doc said hed team it with Clomid. When do u get your results back?
I gained 10 pounds in a MONTH and my hormones went completely NUTSO!!! I was an emotional wreck and breaking out and everything. Those cysts can really do a number on our bodies! But I really don't think that is it for you - I was in excrutiating pain when I had it, and like I said, I was NOT on the pill. hang in there! I hope you start to feel better!
Itchy palms to the point I could rip my hands off and the top of my feet (not my soles). A month ago I started taking cholesterol meds and metformin. I went to the Dr. to ask if it could be a reaction to the meds and he said it's doubtful. He has me not taking the cholesterol pills for 5 days to see if it stops. It hasn't stopped. I thought I got a bug bite which caused it. I itched for 24 hours and then finally broke down and took a zyrtec.
Here is an excerpt on a Metformin Pharmacology. It doesn't appear Metformin is "processed" by the kidney but is one area where it is expelled. http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/avandamet_cp.htm Metabolism and Excretion: Metformin hydrochloride: Intravenous single-dose studies in normal subjects demonstrate that metformin is excreted unchanged in the urine and does not undergo hepatic metabolism (no metabolites have been identified in humans) nor biliary excretion.
The obivious thing to do is eat smaller portions, I would actually suggest eating 6 small meals a day. For instance breakfast could be grapefruit and yoghurt or something of that nature. Make sure that you are getting fruit in your diet and lean meat. Your body also burns a lot of energy at night therefore if you eat less carbs after 5 p.m. your body wont have an enormous amount built up therefore you allow your body to burn past the carbs and cut into fat.
Hey my name is jessica. I am trying to have a baby, my obgyn put me on metformin-to get my hormones straight. and adipex- to help me lose weight because im over weight and i have abdominal periods . Okay i had a very light period then i took my first pills and like a day later it was like i had to go change my pad and tampon every 2 hrs. so that last like 7 days. okay april 4 went to the doc.
So for example, if you take a blood pressure medication that is metabolized by CYP3A4, inhibiting this enzyme with grapefruit juice may raise the levels of the blood pressure med in your blood and IN YOUR LIVER....and it can cause an overdose (and your blood pressure to go down too low). So if you want to lower your viral load by drinking grapefruit juice, you'll need to make sure that you're not taking any meds that are metabolized by CYP450.
I had 2 endometriomas removed last year and I felt exactly as you did the days leading up to my laparoscopy. My fear and doctor's fear was that it was cancerous because my CA125 test was elevated (But it can be elevated for endo as well). My cysts were 10cm on the left and 6cm on the right. I would have cysts fill and rupture every 60 days so that might tell you how fast they actually can grow. Each time they ruptured I was in the hospital with some stays longer than others.
Diagnosed with no tests just my history, so he put me Metformin and with 3 months had my periods again. I moved to another place and everything was going ok. Just the regualr exhaustion, pain, flues, but no more vertigo...it disappeared. 2 months after all this I became pregnant with my son:) He was a wonderful surprise. The first 5 months of my pregnancy was hell, back and forth to the hospital with migraines and dehydrated.
I have started exercising at a gym and following a diabetic diet and lost 6kg in 3 months, the metformin also contributes to weight loss.. The cramps and pains dont go away. I need to know if anyone has overcome pcos ? Have you lost the weight completely ? Most importantly, have you managed to concieve and deliver a healthy baby ?
I was doing an IUI cycle and I was on CD 18 and still hadn't ovulated and he didn't think I was going to that cycle. So he gave me a choice of waiting on my period or taking provera and I chose to take porvera. I had to take 10 pills and got my period on the last pill. We continued with that cycle, IUI on Nov 6th and we got a BFP! Good luck!
) I was also diagnosed with diabetes a month before my ovarian cysts surgery, and have been taking Metformin since June 06. My blood sugar has not stabilized at all yet, and now I guess I know the PCOS is probably why. I have gained 8 pounds since the surgery and starting Metformin (but was told I should lose 10-15 lbs.) So, now I need to get my endocrinologist and gyno talking about treating PCOS, right?
I have been eating healthier this cycle...mostly fruits and veggies as that's all that I can keep down...and drinking grapefruit juice which I think has made the difference in my CM...
we were trying naturally until Nov 07 and then we did 2 rounds of clomid and then they found a cyst the size of a grapefruit on my ovary so had to have it removed and am on the pill now till next month when i can get and HSG done and then start fresh:) 3. Yes i have two kiddos. DS Logan is 2. and DD Kylie is 5 (there are pics in my profile) 4. M/C yes one natural one in August 04 and then and ectopic in Aug 06 which i lost one tube and ovary, and then in January 07 i had a chemical pregnancy.
And i get these objects even during months/weeks that I'm not taking any supplements, but I do always have to take metformin. cardizem and offbrand zyrtec for severe allergies. I'm going to keep reading on this post thread, since it's such a long one, but just wanted to respond to yours and then I'll keep up with answers. Thanks!
Hi, you mentioned Grapefruit seemed to help. This may be helpful for you. This is from a Fresh Juices & Menu Planner provided by the "Juiceman." I'm looking in the book and there is a drink here called: "Blood Sugar Balancer" and so it may or may not be useful information for you... These things could be eaten too, they don't need to be made into juice. Although it is easier to juice a large amount of veggies rather than eat them.
I also have heard that women who get cysts all the time usually have a glucose imbalance and the diabetic drug Metformin can help to regulate everything. I don't really understand how, or why, but it might be worth talking to your OBGYN about it.
I know how you are feeling, back in april was our first time and this is our last(3rd) so please, please embie embed and stick.
