Metformin and femara for pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Metformin and femara for pregnancy

femara

847330 tn?1238713603 If you did IVF you wouldn't need Clomid. They'd stimulate your ovaries to produce large follicles (eggs). They'd then retrieve those eggs. They'd also collect your husband's sperm or donor sperm and fertilize the eggs in a petri dish. They'd then be transferred to your womb. IUI is different than IVF. They have your husband give a sample of semen, or they could use donor sperm, and would inseminate you. I'm sure there is more to it that someone else could explain.
Avatar f tn i dont ovulate and i havve pcos i been on metformin femara and provera for a month now..i havent ovulated this month so we are going to do provera to started my cycle again.. i have tried clomid 50mg-150 for six cycles and didnt ovulated at all..my questions is should i take femara again this month or moved on to injections? how long did it take for these drugs to work for you?
Avatar f tn my OB is trying to do everything she can for us before I have to move on to a more expensive fertility specialist. Ideally she wanted me on Metformin for 3 months prior to the Femara, but I had horrible side effects. I did one round of Clomid and ovulated around CD 14 (but Got strep throat the same week!), so I guess I have been surprised when the femara has done nothing but give me a headache! Thanks for the info!
Avatar f tn Have you talking to your dr about trying Clomid? I was on clomid for my DS and now again with this pregnancy. I'm 6wks right now but it took 4 rounds of clomid this time.
Avatar f tn Hi! Many PCOS patients don't have the usual constellation of symptoms. A very good friend of mine ( and mother of 3 ) had PCOS and is quite thin and fit--she has a lovely complexion too. If you were my patient, the first thing I would do is to (after checking the pregnancy test which I ALWAYS do ) treat you with 5 days of Prometrium. This medication should start your period and "clean out" your uterus. Then, I would start you on Metformin and Femara.
Avatar m tn t had a period or ovulate on my own so my doctor put me on provera, metformin, and letrozole(femara) to get pregnant but the metformin alone will help you NOT to have a miscarriage...good luck to you sweetie. I think you should ask your doctor about taking metformin, it corrects PCOS also...
Avatar f tn then i was used after ovulation 15 progestone tablets for pregnancy protection(if pregnancy is there), Now my RE recomended letrozole 5 mg tablets .I have to start on my 3rd of my period.RE asked ne to use ovulation predictor kits and if perod missed means I have to take an appointment. She didn't give any progestrone tablets after ovulation. Is this the correct way?anybody using femara(letrozole 5mg) please clarify my doubt.
506810 tn?1210691647 Follicles need to be at least 18mm so I went back the next day for my shot to give them a little more time to mature. Now I am at day 11 of my 3rd femara cycle and will go in tomorrow for my day 12 ultrasound to see if I made any follicles and if I did and they are mature, they will give me the shot right then. If we don't conceive on this cycle, we will start a new protocol and try something new. I hope that my explanation of my experience helps you decide what to do!!!
Avatar f tn Also, you may wish to consider trying Metformin together with the Femara. Studies indicate a slightly higher pregnancy rate with the combination of the two. Good luck!
1448645 tn?1370067496 My question is. Is there any one who has taken just femara with out IUI and fallen pregnant? Just tradtional BD? I am considering doing this as i have one course of femara left but dont want to do the iui its too much pressure. Please let me know if you have had any succuess and what you did. my cycle is a 31 day..
Avatar f tn I am a 29yr femalen and I am ttc I had all the blood work done and its showing I have PCOS. I was put on metformin 500mg last month and had one cycle of femara 2.5mg and my doctor said it was not working as fast as he wanted to accoriding to the u/s. He said my PCOS was still hindering my ovaries from working properly. So I am going to see a specialist next week. He also increased the metformin to 1000mg and it will increase again on the 14th to 1500mg.
1626928 tn?1378850167 5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I am curious about side effects, advice, success stories, etc. I am anxious and have been TTC for 3 years total, 2 with a doctors assistance. THANK YOU in advance.
Avatar f tn I had an HSG to make sure my tubes are open and they are. I had my first round of femara 2.5mg and metformin 500mg last month. Went back to the doc and he said no luck PCOS still in the way. Did a progesterone test and my level was 8.7 some docs say I ovulated some say I didn't I have no clue. AF arrived as to be expected and I did another round at 2.5mg amd metformin 1500mg. Went to the R.E. Specialist yesterday and had a u/s apparenltly femara does not like me at least not 2.5mg.
325477 tn?1250551309 My problem is that I don’t O on Clomid (2 rounds) and my Fertility Specialist doctor (don’t know how else to call him) says that he wants me to do Metformin for 3 weeks (each week double doze) and then if I don’t O, then we will move to injectibles and probably IUI. You were able to O on your own…I actually thought that with PCOS you don’t O on your own, but I guess I was wrong. I am under 30 but I want to have a baby SO MUCH that I can’t wait any longer so I am very proactive myself.
Avatar f tn I've read in another forum on a different site that it's worked well for some and didn't do anything for others. Do you have PCOS?
586512 tn?1218512079 I'm also taking metformin, though I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS. Doc said it would help with the lining of my uterus. We tried 3 cycles of clomid and IUIs. No success. Clomid gave me hot flashes and may have made my cervical mucus hostile. This cycle, I took femara and had IUIs (in 2ww). I didn't have hot flashes, but my progesterone level went down slightly when tested on CD 19, compared to when I was on clomid.
1442873 tn?1284246187 I would recommend that you continue with the metformin and work very hard with exercise and healthy diet (lower carb diets usually work best for people with PCOS) to get down close to your ideal weight. Losing weight is also a very effective way to increase fertility. If you have managed to get your weight down and fitness increased and you're still not successful, then will be the time to get some assistance.
418703 tn?1308825220 hi does anyone have any success storys with a combination of metformin and clomid and how big of a dose it took before you concieved?
5143114 tn?1364237535 Then this past month (March) she uped me to 7mg of femara (and still taking Metformin, too). My 21 day Progestrone levels for December was 2.87, January was 1.76, Feb was 7.87, and this last one was 9.82 She also did tested 4 other harmones on day 3 of my cycle, everything was normal, except the TSH which was .282, which she said was a little underactive. So now I have been referred to an Reproductive Endocrinologist. So, what is there to be expected?
Avatar f tn Okay ladies im about to drive myself crazy. I can not figure out what's going on. Here's my story... Pcos, trying to achieve ovulation with femara, then trigger, then iui. First he started me on provera. I didnt have much of a period. More like some brown spotting for a few days. He claimed that was my period so started me on femara cd 5-9. Cd12 went for a an ultrasound, he said I didnt respond to the femara and wanted to up dosage to 7.5. My lining was measuring 6mm.
1504962 tn?1292507093 Then I got on Metformin in May 2010. I have lost 50+ lbs, with Metformin. In Aug. I was given Femara, and havent had AF since then. I have taken 2 HPT and both have some back negitive. Yesterday 11/30, I took my Provera so we can jumpstart my AF, and hopfully take either Clomid or Femara. With Clomid 150mg I didn't have any side effects and With 100mg of Clomid, I was a total wrack! Femara 7mg, I was fine.
1360237 tn?1351816181 I just know I am taking 500mg twice a day of metformin. And it hasnt done anything for me but make me sick. Do you know if femara is covered if clomid is covered?
Avatar f tn I have regular cycles. The doctor put me on metformin and femara (spell check) which I did ovulate on so thry say from my progesterone levels..but still not pregnant. Does any one knows what I could do to help me become pregro?
Avatar f tn I know it seems like I'm reaching which I probably am but I was just wondering. If I'm not its not the end of the world I've mentally prepared myself for the BFN. I just wish AF would come on so I can start my 3rd round of femara. Honestly I think I may take a break and just chill for a while I'll stay on the metformin but I will wait on the femara.
1512722 tn?1313697879 I just did yoga/pilates I heard it was good for fertility and only started it this cycle and got pregnant. Good luck to you!! That's just my own experience with met. Hope you get good luck with it too. It's got nasty side effects but don't give up or go down on the dosage. My re said you have better luck with 1500mg. And I only ovulated once with only met. On Cd 23.
1160836 tn?1332330169 I am taking Femara and I am on 5 mg cd3-7 I would love to hear any sucess stories and how long before you got that BFP. If you were taking anything else with it. I am also taking metforin 500mg a day. I also have PCOS. Share your good news here.
193609 tn?1292180293 Thanks for the advice ladies! This really is a pain, and I just hope the metformin continues to make improvements!
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm in a similar situation I think I had implantation bleeding on may 26-27. I have yet to take a test b/c I'm not sure if it was ib it could have just been break through bleeding for me. which I've never had or it could be from the meds I take 1500mg of metformin and 2.5mg femara on cd 3-7. My advice to you is wait for your missed period I think you tested to early. I know it's hard to do but if you had implantaion bleeding then more than likely AF will not turn up.
