asacol

Avatar m tn Hello all UC Patients, I was diagnosed with UC few years back and tried every medication (ASA, Rowasa Enema, Prednisone, Immuno-Suppresants, Remicade, VSL-3, etc). I have been hospitalized four times in last two years. Finally I met a doctor in UK who prescribed Asacol Foam Enema. I was unable to get into remission for last so many years with all drugs, however, with this foam enema, I got in full remission in just few weeks.
Avatar n tn During moderate/sever flare-ups I took prednisone orally, in foam suppository as well as mesalamine orally and through suppository. In moderate flare-ups mesalamine orally w/ mesalamine suppositories. My question is - beyond the general risk that HSV presents - how additionally risky is this for me? It is a possibility that at some point I will have a flare-up that will require immonusuppressive therapy. If I was to contract HSV could my UC symptoms become more severe?
Avatar n tn therefore, delayed-release tablets are used to achieve a local effect in the colon. Following oral administration, 20—30% of a dose is absorbed, with peak plasma concentrations achieved in 3—12 hours. It is specially formulated to release the medicine after it has passed through your stomach into your intestines. If you are finding only the shell that is very common. However, if you are finding full undissolved tablets in your stool I would then suggest you contact your prescriber.
Avatar f tn Her gastroenterologist started her on Mesalamine (4 capsules daily) and later added prednisone 100 mg enemas to try and get the flare-up under control. Things are getting better and she has some of her strength back. There is one puzzling thing that the doctors are not able to pinpoint. This is an intermittent fever that starts in the afternoon and lasts to the night. In the morning the temperature is back to a low 97 degrees fahrenheit and stays stable until afternoon below 98 degrees.
Avatar f tn t poop for over a week...and every time I get rid of it, via enema or laxative, it comes back again a week later. Sometimes I'll even have diarrhea before I get constipated again. Right now I haven't gone in almost a week, again, and all my doctor tells me to use is Miralax or a stool softener. Both have worked OK in the past to temporarily fix the problem, but today, I got severe nausea and cramps with really sharp pain in my stomach.
Avatar f tn My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?
518117 tn?1429276273 The Pet-ema enema that we purchased from the vet yesterday, then gave to Hiss, did not work whatsoever. The vet has given Hiss the Pet-ema twice in the past. It would always give her awful diarrhea. But, this time it did nothing. We are keeping her well hydrated with Pedialyte. So, she is not dehydrated. She is currently curled in a ball sleeping. Hiss is out in the main part of the house with us. So, I feel that is a good sign...still. She is eating a few bites here and there.
Avatar m tn I have read about a study in which Boswellia was used in conjunction with Mesalamine. My gastroenterologist knows notheing about herbs, but is open to information that I can give her. What is available? Are there any interactions with boswellia and mesalamine that I should be cautious about? Are there any precastions about its use?
Avatar f tn A family friend (who gave birth 35yrs ago) said that before she delivered she received an enema. Do they still do this?? She also told me morning sickness starts in the second trimester and i definitely know that is wrong lol.
Avatar f tn My mom told me that in the hospitals Some of them give you Enemas and I really don't want one!! Unless I for some reason need one, but she also said they do it as a precaution so the baby doesn't swallow or breath in BM. I'm all for it if it Needs to be done for her safety but I'm not sure about it.. Any stories or advise.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had to use a enema or went to the er and had one done? Should i try it myself or go to er? Does it hurt? What should i expect? Im really nerves and kinda scared :( never had any of these prob. Be4 and this is all new to me..
Avatar n tn No enema Self-administered or given by nurse If constipated at onset of labor To start or stimulate labor At times, enemas have been able to start contractions. Doctors or Midwives might want an enema performed to help stimulate or speed labor. The decision of whether you will or will not need an enema should be discussed with your doctor or midwife during one of your prenatal appointments.
1198742 tn?1293503376 Three hundred mL of lactulose solution should be mixed with 700 mL of water or physiologic saline and retained for 30 to 60 minutes. Lactulose enema may be repeated every 4 to 6 hours. If this lactulose enema is inadvertently evacuated too promptly, it may be repeated immediately. The goal of treatment is reversal of the coma stage in order that the patient may be able to take oral medication. Reversal of coma may take place within 2 hours of the first enema in some patients.
Avatar f tn am a 17 year old female....have issues with a redundant sigmoid colon...was on bisacodyl occasionally, because of the on and off constipation..for about 4 years..i've been put on a dose of ispaghula husk(fybogel) after a barium enema....it doesn't seem to work......what should i do? also...could this disorder be influenced by the nervous system to some extent....because i get to busy most of the time and keep procrastinating going to the bathroom....maybe i have adapted?.......
Avatar n tn If the doctor does put you on a water pill ask if it is the kind that you need to take potassium also. Aspirin dose seems high. Is there a reason why the dose is not the usual of 81mg? Need to protect your stomach and I am wondering if 243mg daily would cause stomach irritation. You have diabetes also? Coreg is the best medication for heart problems. I do not see why the enema would cause any harm, but you can check with your hospital pharmacy or your doctor just in case.
1553071 tn?1294242590 My routine would be to eat the best I could, take Miralax once daily, and then every 3-4 days I would lay down, dose with a enema, wait 4-5 minutes, and then go to the bathroom. This worked for me until recently in the last 3-4 months, I would pass stools that would be extremely bloody, which contained bright red blood, dark maroon blood clots, and it would usually be more so the stools I strained passing. I would say 50% of the time there would be this blood.
Avatar f tn Was doing fab on it and then after 3rd day gave CAT LAX on paw because wasnt going and he licked it off and still didnt go then I gave it to him again and still NO GO so I had to take him to get another enema ! I feel so bad for him! Such a good kitty but very inactive. Lap cat, sleeps with me and just the nicest kitty but Vet said there were marble BM,s and then all this soft came out. He is all pooped out literally. He is very tired today after being at the Vets overnight!
Avatar f tn Way back in the day they gave u an enema so that u would poop during labor before the pushing part.
Avatar f tn Talk to your pediatrician, start with the easiest, probably a higher dose of laxatives might help before the enema. Don´t beg him to go to the bathroom, when you see he has an urge suggest he may use the toilet. Also might help: lots of movement, exercise, to have him drink a reasonable amount of water, a diet rich in fiber (fruits, veggies, whole grain cereals). And try to be cool and calm as to aid the child and opreventing this from becoming a more serious problem.
Avatar f tn What other symptoms are present? Mesalamine or Canasa suppositories works by preventing the production of substances that cause the inflammation of the colon. The usual side effects include diarrhea; dizziness; gas; hair loss; headache; mild stomach discomfort or pain; and nausea. The sour taste could be indirectly related especially if you have other gastrointestinal issues like acid peptic disease or gerd.
Avatar f tn s enema or a warm water enema which can be found at any drug store. That will work in about 5 minutes. A Fleet's enema will probably work better but it is more painful. A warm water enema is just putting some warm water in an enema bottle which isn't as painful but might not work as well.
